This show is just a big warm fuzzy. It probably deserves more than three stars, but I had to deduct because I can only watch it if Im in the right mood.

A very fine show. Only reason I didn't give it five was the rich people who owned the store were too over the top. Good writing, wholesome family entertainment.

I loved this show! I find it great that my daughters' 2nd grade class are watching this show! It showed, as MissPackRat said, a wholesome family in a time of innocence, still dealing with hard times (and look, they never applied for welfare or killed people for money). Great, great values and morals show!
MissPackRat4Je sus 12/20/2007
Although a lot of elements in this show were greatly different from the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, this heart-warming series, if anything, paints an excellent picture of a typical family pulling together through hard times in the late 19th century, complete with a lot of conflict and character development. Laura Ingalls Wilder, the heroine, grew from a small girl in pigtails to a wife and mother raising a daughter of her own during the run of this series. In the '70s and '80s, there were still plenty of shows that were wholesome enough for families to watch together. You just don't see very much of that anymore, I'm sorry to say.
Victor57 06/08/2007
Even though their weren't many blacks on this show, there was a strong sense of family togetherness, love, and faith. I didn't miss one episode.

Ah!, My favorite show. I still watch an ocassional rerun. Taught value and manners, and, all the other good stuff you can't find in most of the newer programing. Michael Landon was one of my favorite actors. And, of course, everyone loved Laura.
bowm3435 10/21/2006

I wanted to be Laura and Mary when I was little! :) Still a good family show - although watching it as an adult its not quite as good as I remember, but then again what is??

I always love little house on the prairie since I was a boy growing up in Indiana. The show has a wholesome value to it that not too many shows have. It's got the love of God,family and friends. When you watch it a long time (also the reruns)it's like the town people and the Ingalls are part of you.I thought it was sad how the show ended with terrible endings.Albert dying and the town blown away, but the memory will always be there when we want to feel good about things that are not right, because to me it lifts the person up.God bless little house actors,Micheal Landon etc.Thank you Laura for sharing your stories with the whole world to enjoy 4 ever,God bless.

I loved Little House on the Prarie when I was a little girl, and I love it even more through reruns. When I watched an episode, I would get this good, warm feeling inside. I loved the Laura/Nellie rivalry the best in the whole show. But the one character I loved the most was Mary. She is beautiful, intelligent, elegant, mature-no wonder the boys was crazy about her! To me, she will be "the golden girl of Walnut Grove." I just wished that the writers were a little more truer to the books, though. There were some characters in the books that could have been included in the show-like Cap Garland, Mary Power, etc. All in all, a wonderful, heartwarming show. They sure don't make shows like that anymore.

I LOVED this show!I remember when i was a kid, no matter what i was doing in the house, i would always come running when i heard the opening theme-lol. The only thing i never got....what the heck was soo funny? Ever notice that sometimes everyone would just burst out laughing, for no apparent reason? maybe i am the dense one, i dunno. =) have a good day!
Mr Nuetron 12/09/2005
I wish the waltons and little house had the equivilant of a gang war like the blood and crips and annihilated each other. Both were equally as bland the only story worse of this genre was some grotesque show called apples way.
Lil'Housefan 10/17/2005
I thoroughly enjoyed the show as a girl. Today, I still watch it, through different eyes. I think this show should be reinroduced to every generation. I'm curious about the characters now. I'd like to see a reunion. Are you able to suggest it, possibly?
CanadaSucks of NeverLand Ranch! 10/02/2005
The show really started to slide once that older sister went blind.
kattwoman 10/02/2005
it was a heartwarming family show. michael landon was a success in making the characters he played memorable. he was a wonderful actor that left the world too soon.

ya i liked this show alot so what it was good
RevMead 07/16/2005
There is nothing better than a show that allows the entire family to sit down and watch. Parents don't have to worry about their kids getting sucker punched with some sexual inuendo; kids get to see other kids getting into kiddish trouble. Sure, the acting was not the greatest at times, but, with those stories, who cares!
~dixiechick13~ 07/11/2005
There is so much depth in this show. It is a favorite.
Stezzer 05/28/2005
Deeply moral and yet very witty in its own subtle way. You either get it or you dont. Classic Americana at its very best.
marpike 04/22/2005
I would have rather done homework than watch this pathetic show.
texasyankee 03/28/2005
I still watch these repeats. I don't think they will ever get old.
irishgit 03/25/2005
Sentimental hogwash. Mike Landon's character looked like he never worked a day in his life.
#1sailormoonfa n 01/20/2005
Great classic that shows courage and hope. Great for the entire family. But sometimes it focused a little too much on little Half Pint. And come on...Mary's baby and Alice Garvey dying in a fire in the Blind House? That's ridiculous; Mary was troubled enough in her life as it is. But all in all, the show was great anyhow.
Djahuti 12/03/2004
Smarmy is the word.Kind of like eating your entire halloween take in half an hour.... B A R F !!!!

awesome series.. too bad it had to end.. never been a show like it since unfortunately. thank god for reruns... wish they would do a reunion somehow
guru 10/08/2004
Some reviewers mention that this show was not realistic in portraying its characters and themes. This is one of the qualities that made the show so poignant. It represents an idealism of what the world should be like and how people should treat others with dignity and have forgiveness and compassion in their heart. Anyone who claims this type of programming would taint our children is speaking absurdly. I would much rather taint my children with good values and a compassionate view of life than the absolute garbage we expose them to today. Little House on the Prairie exemplifies to our children a wholesome way of living they can strive for in a modern day world filled with greed and immorality. There may never be a show again to duplicate its grandeur.

Little House on the Prairie is the most amazing show in the entire woorld! I loev Michael Landon and everyone on the show. This show gives me chills when I watch it. It it absolutley wonderful and I hope it always continues to bring people hope and happiness.

I still enjoy watching this show...it gives me a comforting feeling. I started watching in the rerun stages of the 80's and would highly reccommend parents to pick up the tapes and have their children watch!!! Excellent show wich exemplifies great moral values...The beggining seasons were always my favorite
Rick18 07/07/2004
Great at the beginning...got really bad about season six. How many kids did the Ingalls have to adopt? Albert was the worst...missed Mary and Nellie when they left the show. When it became the Melissa Gilbert Show in about the seventh season (when she meets and marries Almonzo) I knew it was time to stop watching.
Jamie McBain 06/22/2004
Boring and sappy at times.
Solenoid DH 06/21/2004
The idea of the show was a great one. I'd love to see a good program with this setting, some day. But there is so much not to like about this: Michael Landon was too preachy, always making his character the big hero, exposing the greed or hypocrisy of others. Melissa Gilbert's ego showed through too strongly. And it was strange that she had a little tiny kid's voice when she WAS a kid, but when she grew up and became a school teacher, she still had the same tiny kid voice. Big Sister was much more likeable, (more attractive too) and put in a masterful performance in the episode where she went blind. But in a miraculously short period of time, she became an overbearingly happy blind person, staring blankly from side to side and grinning every time she talked. Also, the characters talked like people of the late 20th century. And considering the rugged terrain and lifestyle of the times, it seems strange that they looked so freshly laundered and starched all the time.

This show sucked. Was boring as watching golf. I never could see what the hell people seen in this hsow other than something guaranteed to put you to sleep.

Little House is without a doubt one of the best shows in television history. The loveable Michael Landon is a genius in his role as Pa Ingalls. This is a wonderful family show with many great lessons learned in each episode. Excellent cast, writing, directing, and producing. Ma, Laura, Mary, Nellie, etc. all are characters written beautifully into the storyline and brilliantly portrayed by a talented group of cast members! This show will be cherished for many years to come as new generations of viewers emerge. A++++++

this show is a timeless masterpiece of the heart..michael landon is an incredible visionary gone way before his time...the innocence and truth this show portrayed is second to none, and its place in television greatness is complete...

I must agree, I always thought this was a wonderful family show. The acting was great, and so was just about everything else. There are only a few small complaints about the show I didn't like, but too small to mention. I recommend this show to everyone, including children.
Elvis#1Fan 10/02/2003
I think that this show offered the best of America, when people could be trusted and a mans word meant something. A lot of folks dismiss it a drivel, but this was life back then! The world we live in now is a mess. This show transports me back to what I believe was a better time of life. Some of the ideas were a bit overdone, but the overall message is one of love and friendship, something lost through the generations. The times may have been glorified, but the thought of love and family and honest labor is what built this country, unfortunately greed has taken over and our children are taught through todays shows and movies that it's ok to be disrespectful and hateful, that if you aren't, you'll wind up with nothing. Morals mean nothing to todays society. AS I read through some of these ratings, I am incensed at what I'm seeing. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, butit is this kind of person that has brought this natiion to what it is. I agree that you must be strong to survive, but come on people, This was one of the last great shows, Landon was brilliant, the cast was nothing short of phenomenal and the overall story and setting makes you want to be a better person. To be proud of a hard days work, and not let the almighty dollar rule your world!!!

I never cared much for this show. My Mother even forbid anyone to watch it as she stated it was a depressing show. I just thought it very boring myself.
