This is a timeless sitcom...lots of humor...and the cast works great together...another classic less than functional family to make us feel better!
BIGBABY 02/09/2003
I found Roseanne very funny and non discriminating. Its comedy people, just plain comedy. It wasent supposed to be sexist or discriminating. Roseanne was funny in almost every episode. The show did go to far when the family won the lottery.
hillbillychick 02/09/2003
Hey this is about as close as you can get to an middle american family now days!!!!! Just like the family the lives next door!
katbrom 01/29/2003
I agree that this show wasn't always the best, but something has to be said for the way they portrayed the life of a struggling lower class family with real problems...money, kids, and marriage. All in all i liked it, up til the last season. It was kind of refreshing to turn on the tv and not see rich, model-like people living lives that most of us only dream of. To me this show was more real than most.
WarMaid 01/13/2003
You can hate Roseanne, but this was a groundbreaking sitcom--consistently funny (until the poorly conceived final season).

I'm rating great because I loved this show for most of it's run. The characters were people we all knew from our neighborhood. Struggling to pay bills, getting power cut off, going to school to fight w/ teachers about your kids, trying to have a little fun in life w/ as little money as possible. I really loved Laurie Metcalf as Jackie. She deserved those Emmys. Darlene was the smart-ass kid in so many families, Becky the goody two shoes who ends being the trailer living married at 17 kid and DJ is the ADD kid I definately see a lot lately. The Halloween shows are great because they go all out like you should if you have kids. I do anyway. The show really got stupid though after they changed Beckys and then they won the lottery. I stop watching before that happens when watching reruns. Before those things I loved the show. Many people did or it wouldn't have been on so long. It was just too long, like a lot of good shows.

Fantastic show. Real people in a real setting. Dealt with real situations. Humor was found in the courage to face everyday pain. When a joke came it came unexpectedly, a hallmark of good comedy (just like Taxi, Cheers). Amazing show. Also amazing what idiots thought that show was no good. I think sometimes that most humans are complete idiots.
red630 12/09/2002
I never watched the show when it was in the first run only got to catch it during re-runs ( I had classes when it was on). I hate to admit it but this was a good show, great writing.
NewsRadio_Fan 12/03/2002
Roseanne has got to be one of the worst shows of all time? How on Earth do people find this funny? It was lame!
lindsay livingston 11/19/2002
i loved this show. such achange from the fake idealized perfect family tv loves to project. all those perfect thin people in perfect clean expensive houses with perfect children. get real! which is exactly what roseanne is. real. full of ugly people and ugly chilren and ugly sad life. real. i miss her sense of humour. the only show on the tube right now that even comes close to making me laugh now is 'life with with bonnie'
mst3k4evr 11/18/2002
I can't believe that this is at the very bottom of the list! What is wrong with you people? I think that this is one of the best shows on TV. I watched every episode except for one episode in the last season where they were held hostage on the train and Steven Segal saved the day. I can NEVER get tired of this show.

So many people seem to forget how good this show was. It's rated very low on this site, but this was regularly a top three show every week (if not #1). Love her or hate her, Roseanne used her show to tackle important issues. Spousal abuse, child abuse, racial issues, family turmoil, lesbianism, and masturbation to name just a few. She used her show to say something important, not just to get a cheap laugh and walk away. I wish people would go back and rethink their opinion of the show.
cattleannie 08/28/2002
Roseanne was a show about a real family, it was good and funny. We always watched it. The kids were beliveable, so were the adults. John Goodman was a real find as Dan. But as others, have said the last one or two seasons were not to good. But at least you knew the Connor's loved each other.
whitedevil311 03/19/2002
This show makes me laugh yet grateful that my mother is nothing like Roseanne.
Solenoid DH 02/21/2002
I looked this one up, so I could give it the all-time worst rating possible. She was so offensive that her remarks often made you feel sick afterwards. And Rosanne is as obnoxious in real life as she was on the show.
Errol 02/09/2002
Critics complain about women like June Cleaver on Leave It To Beaver and say their portrayal of women was "sexist." But June Cleaver was a decent respectable lady. Why is it considered sexist to portray a woman of dignity and respect? If you ask me, Roseanne is one of the biggest insults to women that I know of.
FOLrocks1 02/09/2002
I am surprised at how low of a raqting this show got! It is one of my favorite shows. It was soooo funny up until the last 2 seasons. The storylines were awful and the lottery thing was a bad thing to do. The saow was BASED on them not haveing a lot of money and being middle classed! But still that was only 1 season and I love the rest! 4!
LoneUSFullHous eFan 01/26/2002
It was good up until the last 2 seasons. I don't think it should be at the bottom of the list.
otlady27 12/11/2001
I watched Roseanne on a regular basis, and though she got a bit brash and obnoxious on the show sometimes, Roseanne was still funny and honest and even touching in a few episodes. I'm glad I didn't watch the last year of it because I heard it just got really stupid and ridiculous, of course it later explained that Roseanne had imagined that whole last season and that Dan really died and they didn't win the lottery. I could not stand her mother, played by Estelle Parsons! Her voice alone was enough to make someone pull their hair out, and she was just an annoying psychowoman. I loved Shelley Winters as Nana Mary and Sara Gilbert shined as the Roseanne-like Darlene. John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf gave great supporting work. Tom Arnold was OK on the show when he was married to Roseanne but we all know the only reason he was on there was because he was married to her. Overall, an entertaining show that gave a voice to the working class and dealt with real life problems head on.
ellajedlicka21 11/08/2001
This was a funny show in its prime. It is funny in the opening credits how Roseanne laughs at the end. Darlene is the funniest character on the show.
The Waffler 11/07/2001
The only reason people didn't like Roseanne was because the show told it like it is. Real people ARE annoying, and they aren't the gorgeous, twig-thin prototypes that Hollywood presents.
pedrogouveia 08/17/2001
The people who are rating this show with a one star are absolute morons. These are people who are obviously uncapable of separating a perfectly fine comedy, from the person in real life. If you want to trash her for the person that she is, in the comedian or actress category, knock yourself out. But don't go giving "Roseanne" THE SHOW, a one star, because this is one of the most hilarious comedies of the nineties. Had it been otherwise, I doubt it would have survived for 9 years. So stop being hypocrite, and give credit where credit is due!!!
knowhere man 06/26/2001
What a BUNCH of UPTIGHT people here! This show has to be more like real families in America than the FLUFF we're used to getting! MARRIED WITH CHILDREN is a great cartoon but ROSEANNE is virtual reality. COME-ON, don't down the show because you don't like ROSEANNE BARR.
liddlebopeep 05/25/2001
I thought Roseanne was a commendable attempt to portray the life of a typical working-class family. Perhaps because it was realistic and because it sometimes dealt with touchy issues, some viewers were turned off. After numerous solid seasons, in the final 1996-97 season I believe things got far out of hand when the Conner family won the lottery. It was then that I was turned off. Roseanne Barr Arnold Thomas may not be the most likeable celebrity in Hollywood but that's beside the point. We're supposed to be rating her sitcom and not her as a person.
callmetootie 04/04/2001
Roseanne may have been an annoying character, but the show was at least watchable. The once thing that I enjoyed about Roseanne was The Halloween Episodes. The ones where they have the omen baby, or the one where the killer is roaming the house. The Christmas Episodes were never worth watching though. They would always carry on about dumb jokes around the holidays. John Goodman's character was really sloppy and goofy, kind of like Ralph Kramdem or Archie Bunker, or even an overweight Mr. Roper. I can remember there being some good cameo spots on the show.
anduarto 04/03/2001
White trash? Cagneyandlazy, aren't you the same person who LOVES Dukes of Hazzard? (Actually, white Trash is just as denigrating a term as any other racial slur). A great show. Funny. Real. And, for all it's bitchy wit, a show with a real heart. I think most of the negative comments have more to do with Roseanne Barr's personal life than this show.
Jeff Albright 03/27/2001
So olivertwist90,Roseanne was immoral but refering to people as fat pigs and comparing them to dogs is is...what?...upstanding? kind? enlightened? And if men and women can kiss on screen, why can't people of the same sex? Roseanne's off-screen personality turns me off but her show was brilliant! I agree with Mongrelpup, it came closer to depicting real life and real people than any sitcom on the tube today.
EMMandEmm 02/22/2001
Great show. I give it a ONE!
cagneyandlazy 02/22/2001
The only reason I didn't give this show a one was: Well, nevermind I will anyway. There are no good points to this white trash.
Kris Kristofferson 02/18/2001
Roseanne, Why are you at the bottom of the list? Watch your dumb show and you'll find out.
olivertwist90 02/18/2001
I hate this fat pig that was the star of the show. She is rude, lazy, and has about as many morals as a dog. If she delights in kissing women, let her do that in private.
Whoserfan 02/03/2001
Ugh! There's something about Roseanne that makes me change the channel as fast as possible.
mongrelpup 01/24/2001
At its best Roseanne was one of the greatest shows on TV. Another incredible ensemble with writing that was inspired most of the time. It was also the most honest, real portrayal of a modern working class family I've ever seen on TV. It started where All the Family left off and did it even more authentically. I know these people. Got pretty stupid toward the end when Roseanne Barr lost her mind, but for several years it was simply the best thing on.
Cassie94 11/29/2000
A ver funny show until the last season or two. John Goodman was as good as Roseanne. The show was really bad in the last season especially when she won the lottery. Roseanne driving aroud in a Mercedes with money? You can't picture that about a charachter like roseanne.
facts_of_life_ gurl23 11/24/2000
Roseanne was a nasty show with dirty subjects and foul language. How could anyone watch a show that was so..i dunno..BAD!!

Roseanne is one of the most comical, nonchalant figures in television. She acts the same on her show as she does in real life.
