Characters in the SVU show are too over board...

Great great show with intriguing storylines- I love the female detective.
BIGBABY 02/28/2003
I dislike this one from the original because of actors. Despite that, this version is just as great. The worst of the three Law and Order shows.
Alexis_F_18 02/25/2003
awesome!!!!!
rimcswain 02/14/2003
My third favorite of the Law and Order series.

Sometimes it's not enough to do something well. The thing you're doing ought to have some intrinsic merit. If somebody made a porn film in which the lighting was interesting and the plot kept you guessing and the naked people could actually ACT, would you give it five stars because it's well-done? The question is academic because porn isn't about art, it's about titillation. Same goes for SVU, which offers us graphic descriptions of the most gruesome depravity their little minds can invent. Gad, isn't real life disturbing enough?? I'd rather watch a good honest porn film.

This show is the best of the series. I actually stopped watching the original. It became predictable, even though I still think it's a fine show. I love SVU because of Mariska H and Ice-T. He is riviting and she is about the sexiest detective since Emma Peel.Extreme comparison but you get my point. I love Belzer as always but unfortunately I think he is not as compelling as he was on Homicide(the best cop/crime show ever!)
bosha 06/26/2002
No question; hands down the best show on TV! Never miss it. Chris you rock. Mariska, you're America's sweetheart.

I like this show - though not as much as the original L & O. The acting is always good and of course my favourites are Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni. It would be a rotten job, but I guess someone has to do it. At least they're not too graphic with their scenes.
callmetootie 12/03/2001
Special Victims Unit is basically a much more dull version of Law and Order, which is still successful today. Unfortunely, the performances in this are worse then the regular show, and the scripts are much more bland. The plots are more graphic then the regular, but the plots eventully explode, and we end up focusing on another topic.
Aurorablue67 11/06/2001
I also love this show; everyone on it is great!! It keeps you interested right until the end. Very worthy of the L&O name, and I look forward to many more years of L&O:SVU.

the show is always great!

the reason i started watching the show was chris meloni but the reason i became a fan were the plots and the acting. meloni and belzer blow my mind. and i dont see anything wrong with mariska's acting *there seems to be a lot of anti-mariska comments here*. the plots are always interesting and the subjects are very touching. great show.

Great show.

Writing has changed recently, much better, and more Mariska.. (which is a good thing). I still believe Season One has the better edge, but Season 2 is getting better, when the writers stay consistent, that is ;) 5-31-01: Still need to work on writing, the Finale was a complete BUST. Writers could take some lessons from Chris Carter, Joss Whedon, or others on how to create a Finale.

Much improved...

This show is AWSOME!!!!!! Richard Belzer is wonderful as Det. Munch...it helps that he's also extremly sexy. *sighs and drools* I love Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU, they are the best shows on tv. Other then these two shows, there is very few good shows worth watching. I like the fact that they get a little more indepth with the characters personal lives, it gives the show a nice touch. Lets us see that the detectives are truly human and what they do touches and hurts them. I have to admit that l haven't watched the show from the begining, but l have definetely watched it since l first came acrossed it.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is one of the most compelling shows on television today. I wasn't big on the first season, but this show has improved tremendously in season 2. (Thanks to the edition of writer Neal Baer) Christopher Meloni stands out above the rest of the cast, perhaps because we get something in Stabler that we don't see in the rest of the detectives. The fact that his family life comes into play during some investigations certainly gives the character a compassionate side. Otherwise he tends to be head-strong and aggressive. We have yet to get the full story on him, which makes the character even more interesting. Mariska Hargitay has done a wonderful job this season. I'm a big fan on Munch (Richard Belzer). One flaw I think the show has... I'm hoping they tune down Captain Cragen by next season. His demeanor kills what little escape the detectives have from the horrifying crimes they deal with. The mood in the squadroom is always so grim, and Cragen's attitude only seems to make things worse. This show needs more light moments and Cragen needs more of a human side. (i.e.- his concern for Stabler during the HIV scare in the middle of the season) Strongest episode thus far has been "Victims". (Meloni and Eric Roberts stole the show) The upcoming episode with Chad Lowe is getting a lot of great reviews.

I enjoy it but I watch Nash Bridges on Friday night then I catch Special Victims Unit on Saturday with USA.

This program provides realistic story lines and the kind of twisting drama that leaves me stunned and thinking long after the show is over. It's one of the few programs I look forward to. The character of Olivia Benson as a strong, compassionate SVU officer is the biggest motivator. Wonder if Ms. Hartigay knows the number of lesbians that twitter and flutter about the tv every Friday to enjoy her performance? Love the hair!

I love Law and Order the original series and the new Law and Order SVU. I think both shows are smartly written with extremely talented casts and compelling storylines. The only thing I don't like is how some of the plot lines have involved Christian suspects (nearly always protestant) who act like brain-dead, programmed, bigoted morons whose belief in God, it seems, has driven them to their horrific crimes. There are so many normal, level-headed, sensible, tolerant Christians out there (both protestant and catholic) who are rarely portrayed on network television as regular human beings who just happen to have a meaningful relationship with God. I am a die-hard fan of these shows; I watch them every week... religiously. :) I just wish I didn't feel so punched in the stomach when a character who shares my faith is portrayed as someone so irreparably repulsive. While there are religious types out there who are judgmental and bigoted (I know some of them myself), most of us are not. These shows have gotta give us a fair shake! :)

One of the most enjoyable shows on the air. A must watch for me. The addition of the new ADA, Alex Cabot (played superbly by Stephanie March) has definitely added a lot to the show.
darcie_51 02/27/2001
Glad I decided to give this show a look. Now I never miss it.

I'm just big on crime shows.

Chris Meloni is a GOD! This show is probably better than the original and did I mention Chris Meloni?
Cutigirl 01/23/2001
Law and Order:SVU is the best television show. It is very well researched and acted. There are a lot of inconsistencies and impossible feats that are common to most "cop" dramas. Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni have become two of my favorite acotrs. I also am very impressed with the character, Olivia Benson. She is sympathetic and empathetic without getting so emotionally involved in the cases that she burns out. I am also so happy that she has not been portrayed as a victim. The one episode that came close was the Richard Wycke stalker guy and she played out the part of a detective without trying to be a one woman heroine who gets hurt. Mariska, as Olivia Benson, is a wonderful role model for young women.

Love it love it love it!!Great show

Great show. You have to watch it from the begining or you'll be lost. A lot of research goes into this show to make it believable. It's great for people that like crime mysteries, and the cast are all excellent in their roles. This is definitely worth tuning in to.

BRAVO, CAST, CREW AND STORYLINE.....
Kurneval 11/03/2000
The Show sucks! Friday night with NBC is the pits! Poor Belzer, recycled from "Homicide" and Florek, resurrected from God knows where. I'd gladly tune in if you did re-runs of old "Law and Order" shows, but SVU - no way.
carol funk 10/21/2000
THE PLOT WAS A BIT CONFUSING. THE BEST THING ABOUT THE SHOW WAS THE NEW GIRL...STEPHANIE MARCH AND HER NAME WASN'T ANYWHERE IN THE CREDITS. SHE IS DROP DEAD GORGEOUS AND SOO SOPHISTICATED AS ALEXANDRA CABOT!!! SOOOO REFRESHING AND HER VOICE IS SOSTRONG....HOPE SHE'LL BE ON MORE.
soin9962et 08/20/2000
Chris, I've loved you since "Leaving L.A."
kaat5793om 04/07/2000
Richard Belzer retains his razor-sharp comic's edge as John Munch, and Mariska Hartigay is one of TV's smartest and most beautiful stars. But this show suffers from a sleaze factor amplified more than its subject matter needs, and cliched supporting performances from L&O holdover Dann Florek. The most effective episode was the L&O carryover episode from February sweeps.

I'm a fan of the original, but I was so disapointed with this spin off!
