This channel is in collapse. In the last few days I've seen shows on FDR inviting Pearl, Hitler with some secret sequel to Mien Kampf, Hitler as a drug addict, Area 51, Nostradamus, and the Bible Code. If this is history at all, it is history at National Enquirer level.

I am not a history buff, but they actually make history seem very interesting. This is good for high school students or college students. The editing and re-creations are very high quality.

This is what I watch when I am home sick. Prety good for hyping up sometimes boring history.
uneek 10/09/2004
I love it, more variety would be nice, almost always a WW2 something program on.
wiley1827 06/14/2004
More ads than I have ever encountered. Great programs but the commercials would drive me insane if I had no remote. I make it a point to avoid all sponsors - they should be buried alive.

It's a good thing I don't have this channel at home because I would never sleep! This channel is a must for any fellow history buffs! Very informative and precise! Very high quality television!
helmetranchobo b 03/22/2004
History is bad!
Dawnsdinos 03/09/2004
Has some interesting shows.
tdubya71 01/14/2004
Very entertaining and informative, but it gets a bad rap for being the Hitler Channel. People shouldn't forget what that man did and how he and other figures of WW2 influence what goes on in today's world.

Feel like I'm back in my history classes.
tvtator 11/20/2003
Informative, educational and entertaining. The great thing about The History Channel is you don't have to know history, have a history degree or be a history buff to enjoy the channel.
ClassicTVFan47 10/27/2003
Although they do show some great stuff occasionally (History IQ, History of Comic Books, Great Blunders in History) most of the stuff they show is uninteresting and dull. An average station, at best.

Modern Marvels and Deep Sea Detectives make the History Channel a great channel to watch.
mikeholly93 10/22/2003
Excellent Educational Channel! they have great shows on unexplained mysteries, archaeological finds, ancient civilizations, the 20th Century, military battles and wars, and great innovations in science, medicine, exploration, and technology. This, PBS, the Learning Channel, and The Discovery Channel are perfect alternatives to MTV!

Why is everything in Black N White?

This channel has lots of great shows (ex: Russia, Land of the Tsars, Mail Call, etc.) They do focus a little too much on 20th century American history, but almost all their programs are very entertaining and informative.

The best thing about the History Channel is "Mail Call" with everyone's favorite Drill Instructor, R. Lee Ermey! I've been a fan of his since "Full Metal Jacket"; his "angry drill instructor" act works because it isn't an act. I thought his performance in "FMJ" was hilarious, but I sure wouldn't want to train under Gunnery Sargeant Hartmann! He'd scare the heck out of you if you never saw his ilk before. Anyway, The History Channel needs to change it's name to The World War II Channel, or have a separate network for WWII histories. THC just LIVES off their WWII programming; which is great for buffs but not for me most of the time.

The greatest channel ever, i like the History International previews. Plus im cheap and cant afford to get anymore channels so the preview makes me feel like i getting something extra.
Redoedo 03/05/2003
The History Channel is indeed one of my favorite channels. There is a wide variety of shows- shows about war, presidents, political figures, etc. "Haunted History" is a very nice part of the channel. Definately among my favorites.
ChunkyLover53 02/24/2003
I think the History Channel airs some very interesting documentaries. It's not on my regular viewing list, but sometimes when I'm bored and nothing else that interests me is on, I find this channel fun.
Krazykitty 02/10/2003
I hate history, but I don't mind the history channel.About the only shows that I like on there are... History's Mysterys and Haunted History, but my favorite is Conquest(my dad can't stand it,he says that Peter Woodward's accent is annoying).
ratemaster1984 02/09/2003
Outstanding and informative channel!
Jason1972 01/23/2003
It's a great channel because they go in tremendously great detail over events of certain wars and inventions.
NoraG1 01/18/2003
If I see one more program on war I will scream!!!
teacherafael 12/01/2002
I just love spend my free time watching this channel. There's a lot of good information.
Molfan 08/07/2002
A fun channel to watch if I want a change in pace. We have come across some real neat shows. The History channel has a wide variety of shows about different histories. Whether it is serious like like talking about wars, or disasters. to more fun like the history of beverages, fast food chains, road attractions. Or haunted histories. Our family has found this channel a good one.
djbuddha 07/10/2002
I think my tv is stuck on this channel and Fox News. Very strange for a 21 year old, IMO. My girlfriend hates that I watch so much of History Channel programming. I just wish they could cut out some of the World War II era programming. There is plenty of history that didn't happen in the 1940s.
ellajedlicka21 10/24/2001
It is a history lesson in a TV station. I personally prefer history to most subjects, so this is great.
Princess8110 07/12/2001
I'm only 16 years old...but I love watching stuff about history. Good channel :)
callmetootie 04/04/2001
Too many of the same repeats, I've seen the stupid Queen Elizabeth thing like 50 times already! The historyIQ show is the only thing worth watching.
dtwin 12/16/2000
An average channel. What do you expect when all the material is educational? However the material may be beneficial to some, a majority of the program is based upon war and conflict. Appealing for awhile, but it makes it seem that our history is nothing but wars and conflicts.
Balvarado 12/15/2000
This is an interesting channel. I often have someone's children with me watching this channel with me. Famous women, steel tycoons, Rockefeller, even different wars. All can be interesting.
kodak 12/14/2000
The History Channel is great. I can watch that channel for up to about 3 hrs. Almost all their programs I find interesting. Only sometimes they run the same program over, maybe it's because I watch it so much.
bluecookie 11/25/2000
One of the best channels on TV. They show so many great and very entertaining shows. You don't even realize you are learning. Faves are the shows on Roman times and ancient Egypt. I've learned much more on these subjects that I was ever taught in school. Funny thing is, I WANT to know more. Even better is the History Channel International. Highly recommended if you like The History Channel.
kyes 11/10/2000
i don't always stop on the history channel but once in a while they have something really interesting (usually at like 2 in the morning)that i really appreciate, like the history of china vs. mongolia and the history of the vikings.
Doria 10/05/2000
Too much war, bad guys, and not enough of the history of the rest of our world
gangrene 10/01/2000
When there's nothing on at 3 in the morning, there's the History Channel. I love it anytime!
SamIAm 09/19/2000
Good Lord, I feel like an old lady now that I am rating the History Channel. When my husband and I were dating, even when we were living together, he would watch cheesy Sunday night movies with me etc..NO MORE..Now, I think his world would crumble without the History Channel, Discovery and TLC. What is it with men and these channels? I must admit, he has converted me. If we turn on the TV at night, I really find the shows on History interesting and informative. History was always my worst subject, so I guess I am catching up while also being entertained.
lily1398om 11/21/1999
While others would hate this channel, it has been very useful to me in my history classes. More useful than the book.
