 | Spike65 (11) 04/20/2008 | Jack Lemmon was one of my all-time favorite actors. Once and a while he was in a clunker but overall his body of work was excellent. He was rarely the star and I think he was best as a supporting actor. Check out his fine performance as the leading man in "The Days of Wine and Roses" with Lee Remick. That film alone should put him toward the top of the list of best actors.

 | SoulSaxy (3) 10/07/2005 | One actor of great versatility of movie roles is why 5.0!! There are so many that it will fill my comments screen. Examples; Mr. Roberts, Some Like It Hot, The Apartment, Days Of Wine And Roses, Save That Tiger, Missing, and to really show in one film his versatility see Irma La Douce. Still enjoy that last film. A truly great actor is one who is not limited in what he can do on screen. These are the films I remember best about this actor of great dramatic sense as well as great comedic sense on screen.

 | Molfan (58) 10/07/2005 | A great actor. I loved his work in a lot of the movies he did. He was good in the Apartment{ a movie about a nice guy who lets men use his apartment for affairs, and he falls in love with Shirley MacLaines character} He and Walter Matthau were great together in the Odd Couple, and Grumpy Old Men.Jack Lemmon was like the everyman, the guy next door. most of his characters were people others could relate to.

 | Miss Magoo (0) 02/06/2005 | He was great in almost all of his movies - a very good verstile actor. I have seen only a few of his many movies (The Apartment, Some Like it Hot, The Great Race) but I am sure all of them are very good.

 | edt4 (99) 01/21/2005 | Very good actor who was able to jump from one genre to the next- comedy, drama- and excell at each. Sometimes a bit hammy, but we won't see his like again in this life.

 | tvtator (5) 11/20/2003 | Jack Lemmon was adept at both comedy and drama. He appealed to everyone and acted almost up to the time of his death. Jack Lemmon was not afraid to try anything, and delved deep into his characters to bring out something deeper. Some great film of his include The Apartment, Some Like it Hot, The Fortune Cookie, The Odd Couple, Days of Wine and Roses, Glengarry Glen Ross, Missing, Save The Tiger, The China Syndrome, Grumpy Old Men and more. He won Academy Awards for Mister Roberts and Save The Tiger.

 | Moosekarloff (17) 11/12/2003 | A very fine actor with gifts for the dramatic and comedic, and as such, strayed from the "same role all the time" limitations of many actors in his generation. Although Lemmon usually played the same types, i.e., in his youth he portrayed the decent, well-scrubbed, somewhat daring yet wobbly naif and in later life was the quintessential player of anguished, frustrated middle aged WWII generation schmo, he brought differing color, texture, quirks and temper to the personae he assumed. Outstanding comic roles in "Mr. Roberts," "The Apartment" "Some Like It Hot," "The Fortune Cookie," and "The Odd Couple." Likewise on the dramatic side in "The Days of Wine and Roses," "Save The Tiger," "Missing," and "Glengarry Glen Ross." Was also good in "Cowboy," "Under the Yum Yum Tree," "It Could Happen to You," and "The Out of Towners." A fine pianist, as well, and the vocal records he released in the early 1950s were surprisingly good. He had a long and fruitful career, with no major setbacks, which is why he left such a large body of work. One of the best performers in Hollywood history, who chose scripts well and achieved effective and convincing chemistry with virtually every other actor/actress he ever worked with. A real pro.

 | kolby1973 (32) 07/18/2003 | Jack Lemmon was ok for his time, but he was always so cranky looking, even long before that Grumpy Old Men came out, which was a good movie by the way. But his acting is superb, so I give him a 3. ~~~Kolby

 | Redoedo (39) 05/31/2003 | I've always loved Jack Lemmon no matter what he was doing. His death shortly after that of Walter Mathau a few years ago was a tragedy and a deep loss for the entertainment industry. He brought us so many memoriable performances. "The Odd Couple", "Grumy Old Men", "The Apartment", and "Out to Sea". I just saw "My Fellow Americans" the other day which starred him and James Garner and I realized how much I truly miss having Jack Lemmon around to make me laugh with his outrageous performances. He and Mathau were truly the origional coupling who redefined comedy. Jack Lemmon was a wonderful actor who will be sorely missed.

 | starlet (0) 04/01/2003 | Jack Lemmon was a man of pure honor and integrity. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone. He was masterful in both comedic and dramatic roles. The world has lost an entertainment legend but Jack Lemmon will never be forgotten. His films will continue to entertain new generations of fans for years to come.

 | Jason1972 (3) 11/05/2002 | I recently saw an interview with Jack Lemmon on the Bravo channel, (you know, those interviews where that college professor and an actor is sitting on a stage and a bunch of college students are the audience). Anyway, it was sad to know that this guy dealt with depression and drinking off and on in his older years. Plus, he was such a humble guy but on screen he was superb. This guy just seemed to have a stronger screen presence as he got older. True, The Apartment was good but Glenngary Glenn Ross (25 years later) was just as well an illuminating performance for him! He was so versatile. I can't think of too many actors he can be dramatic and funny and pull it off with such grace and dignity. We miss you Jack.

 | blazing red star (0) 06/12/2002 | This man was a most valuable part of our movie history. Always blending himself deep into the characters he created. Using small mannerisms and facial features to convey human emotion without uttering a sound. Truly one of the greatest actors to grace the silver screen. Rest in peace dear Jack. You are truly missed.

 | CastleBee (81) 06/28/2001 | I was really sad to hear of his death when I turned on the news this morning - so many really wonderful movie memories. Jack Lemmon was a great actor and his death is an enormous loss for the entertainment world. Looking back at his immense and varied collection of work it is obvious from the start that he would become one of the most well loved and unforgettable talents in his field. His energetic brilliance and incredible range as a performer made him and enduring star of comedy, drama, stage and screen. While his roles and characterizations ran the gamut - sometimes funny, sometimes sad or at times even disturbed - they always had one factor in common - the very deep and real humanness he was so adept at conveying. I can't ever remember a time in my life when I did not consider myself a fan of this man's work and in awe of his gift for acting. He was a truly remarkable person who will be well remembered and sadly missed.
