Overall very enjoyable although only a couple of tracks really stood out and grabbed my attention. Honey is sort of snappy but it makes me want to go out and buy a Bessie Smith album rather than listen to Moby rehash it. The last song, My Weakness is the best of all. For some reason, that song reminds me of staying at my grandmother's house as a small child. Odd memory coming from a 1999 techno album.

Excellent throughout especially with the inspiration from gospel music incorporated into some of the tunes. Be sure to get the double set of Play though.

The blues samples are extremely well chosen and Moby just lets them do their work. thus, the result is a quality experience. The art of using samples is in their choice and complimenting this with a sympathetic backing. He does this extremely well. however, some of the other tracks are just really bad with no interest what so-ever. So overall, 4 stars is about right, still worth buying for the blues tracks. Anybody know where I can buy the original blues recordings?

Moby and Techno electronica music, are a joke. I'd much rather listen to the spirituals and folk tunes that made up "PLay" rather than Moby's jacked up, car commercial versions of the songs. He's not a genius, and he's not very talented, except with computers. I prefered Moby much more when he tried to be punk that one time. At least he was trying to make music, as opposed to sampled beats. the only good thing about Moby and his last disc Play, is that the mainstream LOVED it...which means that moby and his new celebrity gloryfing junk disc are passe and will be gone. Bring on REAL rock and roll!!

Extremely overrated electronic album.

An enjoyable album throughout and an improvement over Moby's aimless "Everything is Wrong" album. The tracks often have a strong beat behind them, but are often too simplistic. Even so, "Play" is an original album because of it's combination of soul samples and dancefloor grooves. "Porcelain" is a particularly emotional, powerful piece of music. Other recommended tracks include: "South Side", "Natural Blues", and "My Weakness".

I guess it's an okay CD, but it's the first techno artist to in my opinion sell out, or at least becomre dangorously popular. Kinda scary... huh?

Moby's use of harmony is incredible. His rhythm is a refreshing change from most pop music. Moby's overall talent has evolved immensely over the years, and his album Play shows this.

This is the newest, cool trance hit to take centerstage on the music charts. The video, as well, is great and Moby's technique of delayed strings sound really cool and original.

Moby is awesome. Great singing style and great songs. A little bit surprised that this CD didn't put me to sleep.
LdoubleE 11/24/2000
Moby is a real artist, and this album shows this with it's many different styles of music. Everyone will find at least one song that they love.
AL316 11/20/2000
An overall good CD. Moby has a really unique style that is hard to copy. There are some really good songs like "Porcelain".
HoCheezy 11/17/2000
Awesome CD. Moby takes great samples from old blues and soul albums and makes some amazingly innovative music. It's got rock type tunes and hard techno.
MRangel 11/17/2000
The amount of creative musical genius in this man is astounding. His music is good to listen to while relaxing or dancing. Sometimes it's hard to believe it's one guy.
Blainediggityb ling 11/16/2000
The funky grooves of Moby make me want to get up and shake my groove thing.
erik 11/15/2000
This CD was horrible. Moby has no talent whatsoever. The only thing he has going for him is his name. He has been doing electronica since the beginning and that's the only reason he is still around.
DjMystic 11/14/2000
Well, Moby's superstardom has finally set in. He doesn't even try to come up with anything creative or appealing to the ear. His name sells millions of copies, so it doesn't really matter to him, does it?
jwilson 11/14/2000
Every track flows well. It's a good trance CD with a little progressive trance.
sfitzpatrick 11/14/2000
An excellent album which blends jazz and techno. Using old jazz riffs and more trippy beats turned out to easily be Moby's best offering.
jabel863 11/13/2000
You've got to be in to this type of music in order to appreciate it. Personally, I like some more in your face, speakers thumping, loud experimental techno.
mario 11/13/2000
I really like the CD Play from Moby because it's different. It's not really like techno or electronica, it's very original and creative. I like it for the reason that it's not like everything else.
haloflyer 11/10/2000
Too commercialized. For being an underground going mainstream DJ, he sold out. I have never heard any of these tracks at a rave, only in yuppie commercials. Even Time magazine said it was mainstream. If that's what you like then be my guest. I'm underground 4 life!
xawc 11/10/2000
Best album out right now. That is really all that needs to be said. Buy the CD and you'll understand what I am talking about.
dimplez 11/08/2000
It has a spiritual aura to it. It's peaceful and makes me feel calm. Beautiful music.
neuezied 11/01/2000
Wonderful CD that deserved all the praise it received in the press. Moby mixes modern electronica and old melodies from a variety of origins. The fusion result is a masterful aural experience.
mojo 10/30/2000
Great CD, Moby is a great musician, all types of music is in the CD, all experimental and awesome.
moxlong 10/27/2000
Very good music, but it still maintains a very fake "rave music" feeling. Also needs more play and less hype.
pmpcollaco 10/27/2000
Just love the music. Beats are tight.
junot 10/26/2000
Another great artist. Have all his CDs. Great DJ. Very creative. Also great dance CDs.
darren 10/25/2000
Beautifully done, great combo of music. Sounds like all of his previous electronica albums, but since all those are great you'll like Moby's Play.
mikeabu 10/25/2000
Mellow recording. Interestig blend of beats and sparse acoustic accompaniment. Uses blues and R&B samples frequently.
Obie Fanni Tutti 10/19/2000
This is one of the all time great techno records. It is at once danceable, singable and, yet, painful in its soulful inspired samples. Every track deserves attention and praise!
airn8691om 07/16/2000
Moby is one of those artists who can take a subtle sample and play it into something grand. On Play he samples from across the musical spectrum and all seem to fit the mood of the piece. Body Rock is a jump up in your face party anthem w/ an 80's hip hop sample while Honey combines a trippy sound with an old bluesy sample.
Mosh7090et 06/03/2000
Terrific! Thank God he stopped playing rock music. A terrific comeback from one of the original masters.
cute6748om 05/17/2000
This has a nice composition to the whole song.
ange6643om 05/15/2000
Moby is a great artist and has definatly made his presence known both on MTV, in dance clubs, on the radio and at raves. "Porcelain" is, in my opinion, my favorite song and I love how it sounds. I bought Moby's CD as soon as it came out that week and i still listen to it all the time. Also, "Body Rock" is a very popular song and I hear it all over the place. His music is suitable for all ages and this album is a definite 5 stars with me because you can get into the music very easily and it's appealing.
nbas696du 01/25/2000
Moby is the real deal and any true electronica fan knows it. He's been doing this stuff for years.
HSVL10OM 10/26/1999
Moby is the only Artist I have truly fair knowledge on. I guess I thought I knew more on the subject than I did.
