awesome! it was something new and mike myers is genius in his ability to play so many characters and make each one unique

This movie is great if you want to watch a film to make you chuckle (particulalry if you've seen many of the Brit spy film like James Bond, the Ipcress Files etc). It doesn't really engage your brain but then does every film have to be heavy and intellectual?

Released in 1997 and directed by Jay Roach, Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery is a parody of the spy movies of the 1960's (mostly the James Bond series). The basic story involves British secret agent Austin Powers (Mike Myers) who is brought out of a cryogenic state to fight his old nemesis Dr. Evil (Mike Myers) who has been frozen as well. The problem is that both were active last during the psychedelic 1960's, so Powers still has all the period dress, lingo and attitude from that decade. Aided by his sidekick Vanessa Kensington (Elizabeth Hurley), Powers tries to foil the schemes of Dr. Evil and Number Two (Robert Wagner, and excellent casting choice). The problem with this film is that the comedy is overly sophomoric without crossing into the levels of movies like Airplane! or The Naked Gun. In Austin Powers the jokes, lines and mannerisms come so much from the same actors that they get old and predictable quick as opposed to the other parodies. The bottom line is that Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery is an okay film which could have been much better.

These movies are hilarious! Mike Myers is a comic genius! Some of the gags are a little gross, but overall, they parody spy movies so well! Also, what other movies of the nineties can you name that have affected our culture like Austin Powers?

The funniest (and only decent) of the Austin Powers movies. Elizabeth Hurley played a great straight man for Austin's bizarre faux 60's behavior. (At least, I'd like to think people didn't REALLY act like him.)

it'sa great spoof movie, and i like how they went after James Bond and pop culture in General. This is the kind of movie that you notice something different each time you watch it. Some scenes are really funny, and though there isn't much of a plot, it's a really, really funny movie.

This isn't the greatest, or even the funniest movie. However Austin Powers can be a funny character even if he was overplayed he was somewhat entertaining.

Miserable, excremental, asinine garbage. Its gags are obvious, predictable, and without exception loathsome and lowbrow. The movie was about as funny as a burst colostomy bag, and about as subtle.

Mike Myers is about as funny as a stucco bathtub. This movie is less humourous than that.

I'm almost afraid to rate this so low considering its widespread popularity, but I absolutely hate it. I find the supposed'humor' to be crude, disgusting and not funny at all. The characters are obnoxious and make the whole movie going experience painful.

Ironically, a five-star rating was given by MikeMyersFan3 (possible bias- no, NO WAY, impossible) with the comment "you're suppose to give a REASON why you didn't enjoy the movie... blah blah blah" (I left the grammatical error intact to illustrate his or her stupidity), though this person fails to provide a valid reason as to why he or she LIKED the movie. A similar ignorance can be found in many of the other positive comments, leading me to believe that this movie is beloved by a large number of hypocrits who can't back up why they LIKE the movie. Why can't they back up their love of the movie? Perhaps because there is not much to like about it. There is little substance, a concept that has been done MANY time before, and jokes are repeated to the point where they lose the little effect they had in the first place. There are worse movies out there, but this movie is by no means good.

Austin Powers is full of laughs yeah baby!!

This movie is really funny the first time you see it, but it's kind of dull after that. It's probably funnier to most people than the sequels because the characters' habits are amusing, and the audience is used to them by the second. Although it's not nearly as amusing on the second viewing, I still liked it. Austin and Dr. Evil are both funny characters, and Mike Meyers does a great job playing both.

Will always be considering one of the best comedy films of all time. My parents didn't get it though.

Totally unfunny movie that had perhaps two decent scenes in it. This garbage is best suited for the mental retards who think Adam Sandler and the other imbecile, Jim Carry are a hoot. George W. loves this movie, which tells you alot. The only saving grace of this film was the art direction. As for the rest, pure dreck.

I hated this movie. Thats right. I HATED it. Austin Powers is the most annoying person I've ever met. There is no humor is this trash at all- and some of you said that Maury was garbage! If Maury is trash, what the hell is this stuff?!

Funny movie, but i would like to see more Dr Evil and less Austin. Austin and his catch phrases are terribly unentertaining, while Dr Evil is constantly funny.

I just don't get it.

Austin Powers, from the beginning to the end, is really funny. For instance when he is dancing on the street and the cop walks up to them, they all stop dancing, then start again with the cop dancing too. And Dr. Evil is no doubt the most lovable evil villain ever. His wild schemes that always get messed up make his character excellent. 5 stars for sure.

Man I cracked up in this. It was absolutely HILARIOUS! It was sometimes a bit stupid, like the whole pissing thing and the robot voice, but in the end, I thought it ws the funniest thing I'd ever seen, well, not really. It was still pretty damn funny though. Get it out and watch it. You'll be in hysterics. Austin Powers will become an icon for cinema. Mike Myers is brilliant. Summary: HILARIOUS, GREAT, MUST-SEE.

Mad Funny Movie!

This movie was actually more retarded than I had expected. The scene with the coconuts and Hurleys tits was like HUH, are you fugging serious! SOUTH PARK is 1000 times more stupid and crude and funny than this piece of dumbsh*t. In fact, Mike Myers is only funny in SNL. HyperHypo, Man. Now thats funny,harharharhar.....youpatheticfools.

mike myers is a comedic genius and that equals non-stop laughs. everything from "her name is alotta. alotta fagina," to "ill-tempered, mutated sea bass" is great humour.

How can someone not appreciate the comedy of Mike Myers, in a movie that in my opinion will stay forever in the hall-of-fame of comedy? Austin Powers is not supposed to be about hilarious one-liners, or sarcastic jokes. Austin Powers is all about character's expressions, and faces, and situations in which these characteristics are emphasized on the individual in order to exaggerate it and make it uncontrollably funny. That is what makes Austin Powers so unique, and a hit comedy different from anything else anyone has ever seen.

Everyone told me it was great, I anticipated it, rented it as soon as it went to videotape, but was still almost completely disappointed in the end. Maybe it's due to my overall lack of attraction to the comedy of Mike Myers but I could never get over the feeling that this movie just had a forced feeling about it. The sight gags were obvious to the point they could have been taken directly from a boy's junior high school locker room - where I am sure the film found its most ardent followers, imitators and fans. There were a few moments when I admit I did laugh. Dr. Evil was probably Myer's best character and the name "Fat Bastard" alone got a chuckle out of me. But Austin himself was just a nasty, repugnant little creature with an over abundance of chest hair. I guess that should be funny, it just wasn't to me.

OH MY GOD! This movie was so hilarious I could not stop laughing the first time I watched it and I still can't help myself even after over two hundred times of watching it! Dr. Evil is so funny, and Scott Evil is drop-dead gorgeous. Austin Powers and Austin Powers 2 are my favorite movies of all time!

Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery is a movie that turns from hilarious to hideous. Mike Myer's extremly annoying character, Austin Powers is an international spy who is cryogenically frozen in the 60's and defrosted in the 90's to save the planet from DR. Evil. The movie starts out very funny and amusing, but after about 40 minutes, loses all of it's momentum and the scripts go thin.

I couldn't sit through more than 5 minutes of this.

This is definitely worth the watch. It's really funny and it keeps you interested throughout the whole movie. This is one of my favourite movies.
