3 stars for ben stillers performance in it. i personally found this movie dull

I remember when this movie came out...and everyone was talking about how funny it was. So I was expecting this to be side-splitting...and it wasn't. I think that everyone had just hyped it up so much and I was expecting so much more that it kinda let me down. It was a funny movie, but not as funny as everyone had made it out to be.

This movie is histarical, abit nasty at parts but a really well made comedy. 4 stars because it lessens after you see it a couple times.

What works about this movie, and what so many other gross movies don't seem to get, is that you care about the characters. You want Ben Stiller's character to find and get back together with Mary. You admire the fact that Mary is so caring for her mentally retarded brother. Because of that, you're willing to forgive the characters their mistakes, which yes, are a little gross, but very funny. I don't usually like movies of this type, but Something About Mary had me laughing.

I have to say I did not think this movie was that funny, it has its moments but as Ebert always says you really did not care about the characters.

Too funny for words. Total, utter, silliness and well worth watching.

It was cute the first few times I saw it, but it got old. Ben Stiller plays his typical role of the clumsy guy who puts up with a lot of crap (I've seen him do other roles, but this seems to be his main thing), the humor is in his horrible luck with everything from women to picking up strangers. I'll admit, it got some chuckles out of me, though.

The movie was ok, mostly because Cameron Diaz is a great actress in comedy type movies. But the movie went way too far with the sperm scene. The movie was funny and then turned extremely vulgar, which sometimes can make a movie more fun, but in this case it turned sour and definately was not worth the high prices that movie theatres charge nowadays...ok to watch at home if you aren't trying to impress someone.

This is a hilarious movie, how is it #23? It should be in the top 5. There are so many funny parts and the bits don't run to long and it doesn't drag at all. I like the part where they leave the dog on top of the car and drive all the home with it up there.

This movie falls into the -so gross it's funny- category. Because from beggining to end it was filled with moments that would shock your average viewer. Loads of crude humor that would delight the most deranged people. NOT your typical love story.

I thought this movie would be funny after all the hype I heard. We rented it and were we disappointed. We only found one scene funny.The rest was nothing more than gross bathroom humor and even cruelty. The only reason I am giving this a two instead of a one is I like the fact that Mary was so kind to her brother who had some disabilities.I guess for now on I will avoid gross out movies. If others do not like this type of humor I would say stay away from this movie.

It had its good moments and was better than some other crazy films, yet it certainly is no classic.

There's something to be said about sublety in comedy films, but this one has no sublety whatsoever. There are a few funny scenes, but way too much bathroom humor, and the profanity is way over the top. I watched this with some buddies, and it was better in that kind of situation than it would be watching it alone.

It was a disgusting movie, and I was disgusted with myself for laughing.

Errol and I have had some differences, but I will fully back him up on this. What a trashy film.

Here's another crude terror from the evil brothers named Farrelly. Sadly, this started the slide of sewage that are teen comedies now-a-days and it only has one purpose: to gross-out. Let's just say, aside from the fact it has constant profanity, I cannot site examples as to why it is so bad except to say they are extremely sexually suggestive.

Brett Fav-Ray. The final 5 minutes alone make it worth it.

What is the big deal about this movie? To me it is just unsuble, annoying comedy.

When humor this crude and mean-spirited is considered one of the greatest comedies ever by so many people, I am convinced that our society has pretty much totally lost it.

This movie was good up to a point and then they lost me. IMO, there is a certain type of bodily function humor that should never make it out of a junior high school gym locker room. The 'big joke' in this one is a good example of this. Rather than being witty it was simply a new low point in low brow humor. Not really anything to be proud of.

This show always cracks me up especialy when he gets his dick caught in his zipper.....hahaha!

Cameron Diaz is by far one of the worst actresses ever in history. Ben Stiller on the other hand is a very gifted actor. Put them together and what heartburn you will have.

Once again,what can we expect from the wacky(unfunny) Farrelly (John Hughes wanna-bees) Brothers! It sucked! To all you moron desperate kinda laughing fans,...check out a movie by the above mentioned Mr.Hughes. Or if you don't do that research stuff, watch Home Alone. It was out before the Farrelly dorks were still in diapers and is basically the same comedy but with a much more respectful touch. But that's just my uptight opinion. Keep laffin' u' silly moron kids! P.S.-I mentioned Mr.Hughes because I get that sneeeekin' kinda suspishin that the Farrelly dorks mighta' been inspired (copied) "Planes,Trains,&Automobiles." The problem is the Hughes movie is actually funny!!! Ta,Ta!

The first time I watched this I could not stop laughing. It is hilarious. It is still good to watch a second time, but it's not quite the same after you've already seen it. If you haven't seen it, definitely see it, it is really really funny.

There's nothing worth a damn about Mary.

This is the funniest film I have ever seen. This is the type of comedy that has you wondering whether you might have sprung a hernia. The type that brings members of your family rushing into your room to wonder about the commotion as you watch it time and again. Some films you might think are funny, and they genuinely may be, but where 'Mary' beats every other comedy, hands down, is in the amount of work, preparation, perspiration, editing, re-editing, rehersal, honing and perfecting that has gone into the script and production. All this work manifests itself on screen as pure quality and brilliant comic genius. Three scenes come to mind - the early bathroom scene, the police interrogation of Ben Stiller after he picks up the hitchhiker and the Matt Dillon dog scene. They are the cream, but there is still enough material to keep your comedic appetite honed. And guess what? There is a satisfying and gratfiying storyline too. The music is fantastic, the performances are great, the backdrops are spot-on. All-in-all it makes my British heart jealous. Have no doubts - this film is the 'real deal'.
