Listen to this man. Pay attention and you will learn. Sound exegesis and uncompromising on biblical inerrancy, as well as great expositor and defender of the doctrines of grace.

I believe he is a Lordship salvation teacher, which pretty much teaches that the FREE GIFT of eternal life comes at a great cost, and a complete commitment of one's entire life in obedience - even BEFORE one can become saved. Can't say I agree with it at all.

great apologetics teacher

Just another fundamentalist, evangelical fraud who has a chip on his shoulder about the Roman Catholic Church, but sure is good at getting people to open their wallets. Blah, blah, blah. No grasp of the purpose, development, or assembly of the canonical books of the Bible through the Septuagint, Vulgate, etc. And on the seventh day, God had to take a nap because his hand was so tired from writing all that stuff down. Sheesh!!!!

No one teaches the word of God like John MacArthur. He tells you what it means so you can be sure of what it says.

John MacArthur is a man who entirely submits his opinion to the Bible and is dedicated to preaching it verse by verse. Usually when someone has an issue with him it is because, really, they don't like what Jesus has to say in the Gospels. In John 7:7 Jesus says the world hates Me because I testify that what it does is evil. In the same vein, pastor John is always faithful to preach the text as it comes and therefore invites criticism and hatred because he preaches, amongst other things, all that Jesus said and did as recorded in the New Testament - and most of what He had to say is a direct assault on our self-sufficiency and presumption that we are good people. Pastor John doesn't pick and choose either. It takes him about 6 years to preach on one Gospel, verse by verse by verse. For those of you who think pastor John is arrogant - try reading any of the Gospels from begining to end and see where the offence really comes from. It is not from the lips of John MacArthur - it is from the Lord Himself. John simply preaches excellently and is often castigated because people are ashamed of the Gospel and their pride takes a brutal hit from what Jesus has to say. Also, after second service, go and introduce yourself to the man. He is gracious in spirit, patient and humble in manner, and often uncomfortable when someone compliments him or makes too much of him. His concern is with the accurate proclaiming of God's Word and not in forwarding some self-aggrandizing agenda. His desire is for God to become more and for himself to become less. My name is Bryce, and as a member of Grace Community Church I feel it is a priviledge to sit under such bold, incisive, and humble teaching.

As a person that gets to see John preach regularly, I can attest that with John, what you see is what you get. I have heard some people say he is not humble, or harsh, or some other critical comment. After seeing John preach in person for these past sixteen years I have concluded this: John believes what he preaches. He does not use affectation, drama, or tricks--he simply is convinced of what he is saying and does not dress it up to tickle the listener's ears. Some folks are used to tentative, apologetic presentations of the Word of God (in the sorry about this sense of the word apologetic). John just gives it out like a chef forking out the steak onto the diner's platter.

If you want the truth and nothing but the truth sit down with a clear mind and allow the Holy Spirit to show you the truth behind this mans teaching.

I think MacArtuhr is one of the BEST teachers and speakers out there. I don't really care for the way his personality comes across. He actually seems more arrogant than humble to me. It's not an ego thing, he just seems a little short on grace.

My name is Thomas. I am the web-admin here at Grace to You. I can attest to the character of Pastor John being beyond reproach and also let me assure you, he has NOTHING to do with the design of the web-site. I take full responsibility for any misconception about giving. I know John would not tell this but I do know and I will. You know what he does with all that money he gets? He gives away books and bibles and translates bibles into other languages and sponsors the gospel everywhere. He once took a mortgage on his house so that the professors at the college could all have a raise. He did not tell them, but I know. And now you do too. Maybe John would be mad with me for letting this be known, but that's too bad. As Paul said, follow me as I follow Christ. John is a godly example for us to follow.

I attend a Plymouth brethren church currently, but i speak in tongues and have been slain in the spirit before. I have read MacArthur's book Charismatic Chaos which was an amazing read. I enjoyed it because he was providing verses from the Word which he believed pointed to the cessation of charismata for today. He's a good biblically grounded teacher. However, there are some doctrines i disagree with him on. I read the book before my experience of speaking in tongues and slain in the spirit and i wanted to know both sides of the argument and always asked God to lead me to know the truth. If you want to read an apologetics link from the Charismatic/Pentecostal side here it is: http://www.victoryword.100megspop2.com/links.html (though i may not agree 100% it is one of the better sites i've found with good articles relating to why the charismatic gifts are still in operation) I think John MacArthur is amazing in his teachings, but on his subject of charismata i disgaree with him, BUT still respect his analysis by using the Bible. Which some other heresy hunters Do not do appropriately.

John MacArthur preaches the truth in humility and with authority. He is a man of integrity who preaches the whole counsel of God, even when it is not popular and offensive in this day and age.

Awsome Bible expositor!

I wouldn't classify him as a TV evangelist, but more of a teacher. His theology is excellent, unlike that described by dentndude. He is rather harsh in his delivery, but his books speak better than his sermons.
dentndude7 11/08/2003
He preaches THE TRUTH without apology or compromise. Such a quality is severely lacking in this day and age. Thank God for men such as John MacArthur!!!

All theism is false. A vestige of humanity's unscientific infancy. People continue to hold on to these beliefs because: 1-They feel good. 2-They give immediate gratification. 3-They offer simplicity in an inescapably complex world. 4-They provide morality and meaning for those who want it given to them instead of finding their own way. 5-It gives them hope. But these are false hopes. Untruth should not be spread as truth, especially when it has caused so much hatred and war and undeserved shame as has religion. All evangelists are causing harm.
