There is so much to enjoy about this movie. First of all, it is very true to the book (except the omitted chocolate incident and the added roles of Fred Savage and Peter Falk). Second, Robin Wright makes a lovely and strong heroine. Third, there are too many brilliant character actors in vibrant supporting roles to mention here. Finally, this movie contains one of THE BEST fencing scenes of all time, creatively choreographed and skillfully executed.

A classic movie that is a fairy tale, action-adventure and comedy.

I loved it! It is the second greatest love story ever told{the first being Gone With The Wind}. I even did my hair like Princess Buttercup for my wedding. It is a beautiful story with colorful characters.Cray Elwes was too hot! That's always a bonus!

Its okay if you don't know meathead, and your under the age limit to play with legos'!

brilliant, one of the best movies period. A cult classic, I can watch this masterpiece a thousand times
kamylienne 03/17/2003
This was a great movie (though I liked the book even better); it's just so fun to watch. It's an odd fairy-tale of sorts, with colorful characters and great ideas.
jdubrates 03/03/2003
This is what a family movie should be-- smart, witty, non-gratuitous, and made for the WHOLE family. Great stuff for adults, great stuff for young people. GREAT STUFF! I wish there were a whole lot more movies like "The Princess Bride."

i still love this movie. one of the best fantasy movies.
John290 02/03/2003
My family and I have seen this movie many times. I have read the book as well. A movie like this would never be made today. It is too good. It is too far from being just a formula. Sure there's true love, but there's also a Jewish miracle man who gets into a fight with is wife. This movie is absolutely wonderful.
lukskywlkr. 11/28/2002
A decent diversion on a rainy afternoon, but not the classic a lot of people think it is. There's really not much originality to it. On top of that, I don't really care for Mandy Patinkin's jabbering.
sexystreif 04/20/2002
not bad, it was enjoyable but a little too family for me

I thought I would never find anybody who didn't love this movie but then came my brother-in-law I guess he just doesn't like fairy tales. If you require intense serious dialogue and plot schemes this isn't the movie for you. However if you have an imagination and are young at heart you would think this was one of the top ten movies you've ever seen. Swashbuckling, pirates, R.O.U.S., a beautiful princess, a witty hero, a dispicable villian, revenge, Peter Falk, highly quotable lines. What more can you ask for in a movie. How anybody could give this movie less than five stars is INCONCEIVABLE!!!

I never get tired of watching this incredibley unique movie. Great cast, great story, great dialogue. Highly recommended.

Princess Bride is a fun movie and definately entertaining, but GREAT! Hello, you people have LOW expectations. It's simple entertainment, nothing else. Doesnt challenge much.

I absolutely loved this movie. Plot - mmm, not much. Basically Prince Humpardink is after Princess Buttercup ( great names ). And there is a lot of fantasy from there on. Like the ROUS ( rodents of unusual size ) etc. Acting??? - Decent but that is as far as you can go with that. However we do get to see 1 1/2 hours of Robin Wright Penn, and that makes it all worth it. ;-), actually this is a fantastic movie, definitely recommended.
Flyingskull 06/23/2001
Lovely, the only true fairy tale ever filmed. Great acting and great editing, which, in a movie is half the film. Nice humour and a truly magic quality that autoiroby enhances rather than diminish.

The Princess Bride is such a cute movie. It reminds me of my grandfather, he would always read fairytales to me. All of the cast was wonderful. Every child should see this movie. As Wesley would say "AS YOU WISH".

Me big tough man, but Princess Bride make me cry. It was grouse at the the time of its release and its grouse now. My name is Inigo Montario, you killed my father prepare to die.
callmetootie 04/14/2001
Rob Reiner hit it big when he directed Stand By Me, so he wanted to do a comedy that would entertain us. He spoofed fairy tales and stuff like that, and hit it lucky when he directed The Princess Bride. Billy Crystal was so, so funny as the elf, and Fred Savage was so cute in it.
riceboy 01/08/2001
This is a classic in funny fantasy movies. It is a cool/fun way to unwind.
thanatoss 01/08/2001
Funny movie. Best seen with a friend (the more people the better). Favorite scene: I. Montoya with Count Drugen at the end.
Mmoon 12/15/2000
Fantastic movie! Humor in the tradition of the Holy Grail. Fun characters and plot with a fairytale ending that proves heartwarming for the romantic but definitely not a "girly movie."
ElliotS 12/15/2000
I may have seen this movie ten times, but I can't get tired of it. It's great for anyone who has ever been a little kid, and everyone else too. I know people who quote it more often than Ben Franklin, Winston Churchhill, and the Bible put together. Delightful, like a two-hour chocolate sundae.
Picasso 12/14/2000
Unconditional recommendation. Very funny, romantic movie. Peter Faulk is great as the grandfather, Cary Elwes and Robin Wright are good as the star-crossed lover; but it's the bad guys who really shine. Hilarious story line with a sweet ending. The only thing that may put people off is the less than beautiful sets and scenery....the giant rats are particulary bad (but try to work past them.).
Jedic 12/13/2000
Only the book is better than this film. Not only is Andre the Giant allowed to play a rhyming ex-wrestler, but Billy Crystal also makes a cameo appearance. If you don't enjoy jokes, sword-fights, a giant man, or eating rodents, there are Disney films waiting for you in the children's section.
lex72482 12/12/2000
My favorite film of all time. Rob Reiner shows his genius in this fantasy film about a poor farmboy named Wesley who falls in love with a girl named Buttercup. The story is filled with love, romance, comedy, action and suspense. I feel it is something that can appeal to all audiences. In addition it supports a huge Hollywood cast, including Cary Elwes, Robin Wright Penn, Mandy Patinkin, Andre the Giant, and cameos by Billy Crystal and Carol Kane. This is one of the greatest films ever made in my opinion.
cherroun 12/11/2000
Princess Bride was a wonderful fantasy movie. It had everything a good story should have- humor, romance, adventure, and surprises. Princess Bride was superbly acted and the characters lived on the screen. More movies like this need to be made. It is a movie children and adults both can love.
Roses 11/26/2000
My favorite movie because it is a very romantic comedy which comes perrilously close to being plain silly, but maintains a feeling of ture love and passion. This movie has some wonderful lines which will leave you hoping for true love and thinking in a most positively possitively romantic way.
MEdd 11/24/2000
This is what isn't in this movie, car chases, aliens and russian spies. Fortunately, this is a winning formula for a quasi medieval, contemporary, romantic comedy. A perfect score for sure.
49er fan 11/21/2000
This is a great movie that includes adventure, suspense, and romance. It basically has a little something for everybody. It is very imaginative and unique in style.
Boonta23 11/18/2000
This movie is one of the worst ever made, I know, I have seen almost all of the sci-fi movies made after 1980, this movie has stiff acting, if you were riding on a roller coaster you'd fall asleep if you were watching this movie. I give it 2 thumbs way, way, down.
Pandolfini 11/17/2000
This movie has it all! As the wise, old storyteller says, "it has everything from wash buckling, sword fighting adventure, to true love." It is a powerful story of the bond of love between a boy and a girl and their unshakable quest to protect it. The villains are humorously ludicrous and the movie's tongue-in-cheek humor will keep you interested.
pisleta 11/07/2000
Sleeper hit. Very funny movie yet romantic. Cary Elwes does a good job as the man in black. Mandy Patinkin and Andre the Giant provide good comic relief.
line 11/07/2000
The Princess Bride is the best fairytale movie. The story within a story helps the action move along and adds a lot of the humor. The acting is wonderful and it leaves the audience with a great feeling. The music and scenery are perfect.
rowan 11/06/2000
In addition to its profound quotability, Princess Bride is just a great movie. To paraphrase Peter Falk, "It's got romance, swordfights, betrayal, escapes, true love, death, and creatures. What more do you want?" Princess Bride dared to laugh at itself and still be clever. Not many other movies can make that claim.
niteowl 11/03/2000
Funny! Romantic! Adventurous! Action Packed! What more can you ask for in a movie? It's a classic and one of my all time favorites.

True Love
alicat 06/22/2000
I really liked this movie a lot. I usually am not a big Sci-Fi person either. Fred Savage kind of bugged me as the little kid the story was being told to. It is a story of finding true love but there is a lot of adventure involved too so you aren't overloaded with romance. It also is very funny.
Spiralingmarce 06/21/2000
One of the best, most hilarious movies ever made. Human but dangerous, and just plain great.
Munson 06/08/2000
This wasn't a huge blockbuster, but I know many people who regard this as their favorite movie of all-time. It has it all: dry humor, a love story, action. Andre the Giant deserved Oscar consideration.
Jyps5354et 05/21/2000
"Allo. My name is Anigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." THE best movie ever made, and an incredible book! pure genius... "Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles..."
Princess Bride 03/17/2000
This is the best movie ever made. Robin Wright is beautiful, the puns are excellent, I couldn't say enough about it. It is my favorite movie of all time.

This movie was terrible! The book was so much better than the movie! I would never reccomend this movie to anyone!

This is the ultimate movie! Love, adventure, good jokes, bad puns, fencing, giants.... and it's got a great story line too!

It's very hard to say what your favorite anything is once you get past 12 or so, but that doesn't mean that you can't choose things to SAY are you favorite - if that makes any sense. When people ask me what my favorite movie is, I tell them The Princess Bride.
john430et 12/16/1999
Everything that Meathead (aka Rob Reiner) touches turns to gold, and this movie was no exception. Perhaps Andre the Giant's finest hour.
