Its a good movie but Im not as crazy about it as some of my friends were.

This wanna-be-macho 80's vehicle is one of the gayest movies I've ever seen- try and take a shot every time you see a man-hug. . .

Some of this is not bad, but Cruise doesn't come across as a very believable aviator in my opinion.

Just barely ok movie,  soundtrack is good, hmmmm now that I have taken another moment to think about it, it is such a gay movie the way Iceman snaps his teeth at cruise.

I saw this dreck when it came out when I was in my early teens, and count me in in the Tom Cruise can barely act club... I forget exactly what the cost of a movie ticket was in 1986, probably about $5...but I do know that that five would've been better off in the hands of one of the older kids en route to the liquor store for illegal swilling in the woods!

Wow, I never looked at Top Gun that way and now I don't think I can watch it anymore...

A nauseating, cliched, unrealistic, jingoistic, quasi-fascist, militaristic, homoerotic, glossy pile of unredeemed cack. Cliched? Yep, how many times have we seen the two best buddies schtick where one of them always dies, which is then the major turning point in the main protagonist's life? How many times have we seen films where former bitter rivals end up givng eachother mutual respect? How many films are there where the maverick (what an orignal nickname for the Cruise character - subtle or what) always ends up coming good and saving the day? Excuse me while I keep down my lunch.

Pretty good movie, but I get bored out of my mind every time I try to watch it.

OK movie. I couldn't stay focused on it. Maybe the girls like it for the "hunk" factor, but otherwise...I dunno

Contrived, unrealistic flick about fighter pilots training. The specials are flat and dead. For little big man Tom Cruise fans only.

good movie but i'm a val kilmer fan. i wish to see him in more movies.

I realize I am bad mouthing what many consider to be a classic, but I was not impressed by it. Tom Cruise was good, and Goose was funny, but the rest was not that great. The dialogue between characters did not really flow very well, and Val Kilmer and Kelly McGillis were sketchy at best. Plus they killed Goose, the best character in the whole film. If they had to kill someone, why not kill Iceman? In spite of it all, I would buy it for two reasons; the soundtrack, and the combat scenes.

One of my friends and I had a arguement as to whether or not Iron Eagle is a rip off of Top Gun. To make things short, Top Gun is alot better than Iron Eagle 1,2,3, and 4.

Goose's death gets me every time. Val Kilmer's role and acting is a little bit too cheesy, but the movie is kind of cheesy, so i guess it fits.

Released in 1986 and directed by Tony Scott, Top Gun made Tom Cruise a star and was the top grossing film for that year. For the uninitiated, the story is simple. Hot shot, fly by the seat of his pants naval pilot Lt. Pete Maverick Mitchell (Tom Cruise) and his navigator Lt. Nick Goose Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards) are chosen for the elite flight school at Miramar Naval Air Station (aka Top Gun). While training, Maverick meets his fly by the book nemesis Tom Ice Man Kasanzky and civilian advisor Charlotte Blackwood (Kelly McGillis). When not hitting on Blackwood, Maverick is competing for first place against Ice Man; however, an accident results in the death of Goose, and he must now fight depression and a new tendency to be gun shy. The main cast are supported by competent acting talent, most notably Tom Skerritt as Cmdr. Mike Metcalf. What made this film successful was the fast action, the embedded love stories, the exhilarating flying sequences, and the timing of its release during the heyday of the feel good, patriotic Reagan Era. Nevertheless, there was nothing innovative about Top Gun, and it remains a simple action film and a guilty pleasure.

Between the music and the acting, this film can honestly be considered, at least in modern times, as a classic symbol of America's pop culture. I thought that all parties involved gave wonderful performances in this film. The music was great too! It's not what I would consider a great movie, but it was very popular in its day and I enjoy watching it from time to time.

absolutely loved this movie and always will. my favorite non sci-fi film ever(barley beating out mad max and saturday night fever) wow what a film. i was sixteen when i saw this flim and to say it totally absorbed me is an understatement. to me tom curise will always be maverick val will always be the iceman and of course athony edwards will always be goose. at least to me anyway. this movie had it all music, great cast, awsome special effects dog fighting scenes. i mean this film made me want to be a pilot and not just any pilot but a naval aviator.(officer and a gentlman did the same to a lesser extent) still love the songsfrom the soundtrack (especially mighty wings by cheap trick) another film with a great bulid up opening. try to find a guy who was a teenager in the mid 80's who didn't love or at least like this movie. a very personal favorite for me. i feel the need ,the need for speed. film still looks good today for a 80's movie.

I don't like it one bit. Except the fact Tom Cruise is in it. Otherwise its just a stupid, broing movie that just talks and talks.

Puerile and obvious beyond belief, not to mention jingoistic. A disgusting movie. I wanted to take a shower after watching ten minutes of it.

Rent the film "Sleep With Me". In it Quentin Terrentino explains why this is the gayest movie ever made. You'll never watch it the same way again.

I loved this movie! Tom Cruise was awsume and very cute in this movie! I really want to be a pilot so i loved this. It is sad, funny and intense this was really an awsume movie:)

Top Gun really distinguished itself from other pilot movies. Truely a classic. The fact that this movie protrays the life of Navy's Fighter Pilot, at Top Gun, really makes this movie more romantic as it also carries Navy's Traditions, their men and elegance white uniforms, and the very exciting nature of elite Navy pilots who seen all the action on board Aircraft Carrier. That's very unique way of living among any other ordinary pilots, and it's something most guys feel envious.

Top Gun just doesn't interest me at all. It stars Tom Cruise and Meg Ryan and it had a good soundtrack, but it gets distracting with all of the bad fighting scenes that are in it, and stuff like that.

Action in the air. I like Tom and I think this was one of his top movies. There was a little bit of romance, little bit of action, little bit of drama, this movie had a little bit of everything.

Top Gun was cool when I was a kid but now I watch it and its really cheesy. The whole hero meets girl of his dreams while involved in the overall conflicting situation, got old when I outgrew Disney movies.

Top Gun is my favorite movie of all time. It is a classic. It is action packed and filled with great comedy. Tom Cruise was a perfect actor for the role he played. It was a very good story.

Top Gun is more of a drama with some action that shows off Tom Cruise's hot ass and an "intellectual" Kelly MacGillis. To me, the real story's about the guys, not the girls, and some queer readings of the film tends to shed light on the nature of homosocial bonds-these guys love each other so they fit on a spectrum that's a little left of straight.

The classic Air Force movie about rising through the ranks of the most prestigious flight school in the nation. Tom Cruise gives a charismatic performance assisted by his flying partner Anthony Edwards. The movie is little more than a jet fighter action movie but it's a damn good one.

I really enjoyed "Top Gun." It's filled with lots of handsome, highly masculine, daredevil-type men, and they're either flying fancy planes or playing volleyball without shirts. It's all very entertaining. The plot is fairly interesting, and there are some exciting, tense scenes. The soundtrack adds quite a bit to the movie experience, too. Then you have Tom Cruise at his finest. Need I say more?

I really like this movie a lot. This movie keeps you interested in what's happening in the movie. It doesn't make you bored.

Top Gun was the best fighter movie ever made. The soundtrack to it makes you get an adrenaline rush. The fighter pilots make you feel like you are in the sky.

This movie was pretty good. The image I remember the most is when Tom Cruise's partner tried to push the eject button from his plane, but ended up hitting his head against the top of the plane. This movie made the Top Gun ride at Great America even better. It puts more thrill into the ride.

Great movie! Good storyline, ended happy, not too violent, great music and funny. It had all the best elements put together.

I think this is a quality movie. It has a bit of everything- action, adventure and romance. And how could it not be a good movie with Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise in it? I think it's an old movie that will always be good.

Tom Cruise is a very good actor. I liked this movie especially because he had a chance to show his acting skills dramatically, and in an action packed way.

Even though the movie was old it was still awesome. Plus my girl likes Tom Cruise. It was too lovey dovey for me. However, the ride at Great America was cool.

I thought Maverick was a pimp in this movie. I love airplanes. I thought it was sweet when his friend got killed.

I gave the movie Top Gun a good rating. I enjoyed the constant action of the movie, the dogfights, etc. I also enjoyed it because there wasn't only one plot, there were sub-plots that didn't revolve around the main subject of the movie. But, I did notice some inaccuracies in the movie, about flying formation and technology that bothered me a little. This did not take away from the movie as a whole.

Top Gun is one of my all time favorite movies. The opening credits alone gave me this adrenaline inside. The direction of the movie was great. The actors were believeable, great performances. The story was like no other.
