Probably in my top 3 horror flicks of all time. This movie will scare the bejesus out of people who watch it for the first time. Timeless horror scenes, suspense, and mystery. John Carpenter is the man when it comes to horror. I highly recommend this to anybody's collection.

Most overrated movie of all time. It's not just that it's not scary, but it's not a good movie.
daggettbeaverf orever 11/28/2005
This is a pretty darn good thriller. It's not really horror. The only thing that would make this film horror is Michael being as scary and inhuman as he was,and not dying. The rest is suspense!!!I love the suspenseful music at the beginning!!!Basically, this movie rocks!!!
excelsior30 10/28/2005
One great movie of its kind. I certainly was horrified to see it from beginning to end. Defintely a classic that many horror fans would like to see over and over again. Out of all of the Halloween series, this is the best. Will Michael ever be stopped?
hotel283 10/05/2005
genuinely scary - the fact that it was somewhat believable and dwelt in things (babysitting) and places (suburbia) that we like to see as pure and safe made it all the more frightening

Like Hitchcock's Psycho,John Carpenter has made a Film High in suspense & a lack of blood that Jason & Freddy Movies thrive on.In this case & the case of many classic Horror Films...Less IS more.

A wonderful movie. Michael Myers is the 3rd brother in the three brothers of horror, without him what would halloween be?

Made in 1978 Halloween is one of the best horror movies i have ever seen. i love this movie. its also a great dvd the music in this movie is good and very suspensful.
Blanco~Nino 08/29/2004
The prototypical horror film. It has it all- bone chilling music, a dark, spooky atmosphere, a good plot, and the scariest guy to ever put on a captain kirk mask in Michael myers. His stealth, silence, and creative ways he caught his victims made halloween the most suspensefu; and scary movie to date.
Jack Janet Chrissy 08/27/2004
The atmosphere and the music is so inspiring. With the brilliant acting the one that started the whole slasher genre and terrifying music.
Dirty Harry 06/29/2004
Always a favorite at spooky season. A bit predictable at parts (I mean how many times can a monster-man get up after getting shot, stabbed, etc.?) but still a good movie when waiting on the trick or treaters. The first time I saw I was scared stiff.
Jamie McBain 06/19/2004
The original and the best in the series.
Badunsgirl 06/14/2004
I watch this movie 5 times a day at least, I love it! I mean it's great from the moment Judith Myers get's badly butchered to the moment that Michael Myers breaths at the very end of the movie, the whole movie is absolutley a great masterpiece of horror, I think Tony Moran was a wonderful face for Michael Myers and Nick Castle's performance as the masked Michael was great!, but I think Tony Moran should of been Michael Myers the whole movie. Lynda and Annie were great characters in fact all the characters were wonderful and memorable. Michael Myers is the coolest serial killer ever! I honestly couldn't live without Michael Myers! he's awesome! there are a lot of memorable moments in this flim like of course the killing of Judith Myers, The time Michael escaped from the Mental Hospital the way he jumped on the car was amazing!, The car scene when he kills Annie I will never forget the face Michael had when he killed Annie he just kept looking at her the same way(lol) and also I like the sound it makes right when he stabs her!. The masquerade part is great when Michael dresses up as a ghost and he's has Bob's glasses on his nose(lol), The part when Bob says alright come on out! and Michael comes out and grabs Bob by the neck and chokes and stabs him I like the part when Michael tilts his head back and forth from side to side and looks at the Dead Bob! and also the whole time Michael chases Laurie is one of the coolest and one of the most memorable parts of the movie I love the scenes where he chases Laurie they are awesome! Michael Myers has the coolest mask ever! and Tony Moran rocks! he is the coolest face for Michael Myers ever! and that mixed together makes the coolest serial killer ever! and of course the butcher knife does too! Every time I watch Halloween this wonderful, beautiful, fanastic feeling comes over me! This flim is flawless! So if you haven't seen it you MUST see it you will enjoy every moment! and expirence The Night HE Came Home! It's a great slasher flim that I will always be obsessed with! Thank you John Carpenter for bring us your beautiful flim HALLOWEEN, it's has cool music and it's absloutely perfect! If you haven't seen it rent it!!! it's really really wonderful!!! a classic!!
weedie 06/01/2004
Wonderfully eerie atmosphere, with winning performances by Jamie Lee Curtis and Donld Pleasance. I found its suble approach far more frightening than the jackhammer technique of movies such as The Exorcist.
ButtonGwinnett 05/25/2004
Nobody does it better than Michael.

this movie is great! definately a classic! if you are a true horror fan, then you would agree with me that this movie is the greatest horror ever made.

If you don't like this movie you have a sickness that only your parents should know about.
conhusk 04/16/2004
Halloween is a very classic horror movie, but it's not scary at all. this type of movies (like I know what you did, scream) has only a shocking, element of surprise, the story itself is not that interestingly scary (good horror movie has to be scary and must have element of almost a true story)
evileye 03/25/2004
IT'S A GOOD HORROR MOVIE, BUT! HOW MANY TIMES CAN HE DIE?!?!?
DHeman 11/28/2003
I must say that very few slasher flicks are actually scary. This film is one of those. It is very original. The movie was very dark throughout, which created a very creepy atmosphere. Many scenes also make you jump. All the sequels are not as good. This original one is a hit classic. Very impressive.

The shit
kolby1973 10/09/2003
One of the ultimate horror movie franchises ever. I love all of the Halloween movies except for the 3rd one. That one was really, really bad. I don't like watching movies where children are the main target of murder. Yuck !
Kirara 10/08/2003
Ah Halloween. The first of the series that pulled us in and held us tight. I can’t remember a Halloween I didn’t like…ok maybe the latest one, Halloween Resurrection. But that movie lack the sophistication that the others had. It was to ‘modern’, I guess, for me. I liked the old feeling that you get when you don’t know were the killers coming from. That’s what I liked most about this one anyway. I thought it had a certain quality to it that made it special, made it different from all the others. Maybe it was the wonderful performance by Jaime Lee-Curtis? Perhaps the eerie look of Micheal Meyers? Who knows. All I know that it definitely set the stage for horror movies everywhere. Just look at all the cheap rip-offs like Friday the 13th and Scream. And to think, pore ole John Carpenter only had 300,000 bucks to film and produce the movie. I dare you to say that he would be half as good off as he is now without Halloween. Summing up, Halloween is the best horror film of its time, of our time, and will probable continue to be good for years to come.
jbiscuit1 08/02/2003
You know, it's just not that good. My father built up Halloween so much during my life, that I expected it to be good. In reality, it's just a low budget horror flick. I was completely disappointed with Jamie Lee Curtis, and she was the only actor in the movie. Extremely formulaic bad predictable horror.
JimmyInAtlanta 07/12/2003
I've never understood what Mike Myers' problem was, but I bought the premise that he's evil incarnate hook line & sinker. I also fell for his inability to die - a silly premise, but you believe it in this movie. Frankly, I don't know why the movie works - maybe that awesome, simple sequenced music score, the director's use of complementary colors (orange & blue), his use of suburbia as a backdrop, the fact that there are no parents anywhere around after Michael shows up on the scene - I thought the quick view of Michael under the mask wasn't necessary, but that's my only gripe. of course this one is the 1st modern slasher film (really Psycho is the 1st - compare the 2 and you'll see where Halloween's influence comes from. I'll give you a hint: think swinging light bulb). Why did Michael dress as a ghost, why the RIP headstone, why did he seem like a collector when he kills the only guy, why is he so pissed off at women, and why he won't die - I think part of the movie's effect is all these unanswered questions. Is he dead? Where did he go? Is he hiding near you?
KoRnChild70 06/05/2003
This movie was alright. I wasn't too scared while watching it, but rather entertained. It was a good movie, but i give it a 3 since it wasn't scary, just good. It's not a horror movie, more like an action movie. Still, I love this one. I reccomend it to all who love action.
Erik Hendriksen 05/27/2003
I'd have to say that this could be the best horror movie of all time. I love the whole Michel Myers thing. This is a classic. I havn't seen a really good horror film in a while and even though this movie is befor my time, i still loved it. More horror movies should be like this. It's exciting and heart pounding throughout the movie. I am forever an original Halloween Fan

Unquestionably the greatest horror film of all time! This movie is perhaps one of the most influential movies of its time, setting the stage for ripoffs like Friday the 13th. This movie keeps an eerie feel to it all the way until the end, and Michael Myers is definitely one of the most dynamic characters ever depicted in a horror film. Props to John Carpenter for the creepy music in this film.
Rick18 03/01/2003
Wow...to this day this movie sends chills down my spine...I remember when it was first released and I saw it...Halloween for me after that was never quite the same! The first and best in the "slasher" series of films that came out in the late 70's and 80's, this is the classic and best in that genre of horror. The brilliance here is that we never see Michael Myers real face...we as the audience are allowed to be in his "character" when the camera wears his mask and we are looking out of two eyes...and this is one movie where the music adds so much to the feel and tension of the action. Like most horror movies, there is some predictability...like how there are a certain number of disposable characters who you know are just going to end up at the wrong place at the wrong time. This was the best of the group of Halloween movies...the others that followed were horrible...
