I've been a Yankees fan all my life (Once a Yankees fan, always a Yankees fan). I'll never know why they let Martinez go (Tino rocks!) but that's another story. I will admit, Jeter has skills, but I just don't like him that much- mostly b/c he's a bit overrated.

Derek Jeter injured, YAY!!!!! I am so tired of people around NY and the country for that matter kissing his ass. He's not all that great. Let's hold him up to the greats of the past. He's a pale imitation of say...Cal Ripken Jr. I for one am glad he'll be out for awhile.

Overrated and over hyped by the NY media it is freakin ridiculous. he has been labeled a "winner" because he is on the team with the most money and most great teams, put Nomar on the Yankees and they have the same number of rings. His defense is below average, his plays per nine inning rate in the bottom third of the league. He simply doesn't have great hands or range. He's ok, but great? no way

Jeter is not just a solid player, he's an amazingly talented and efficient player. He has a career average of a great deal above .300 and is a perennial 200-hit batter. He has experienced a disproportionate quantity of success in his 6-year career, winning 5 pennants and 4 world series. Jeter is also an excellent fielder. He possesses a great creativity at shortstop. His poise and just plain acrobatic ability helped the Yankees in the 2001 playoffs alone. He made that miracle play in which he saved the season in game 3 of the ALDS with the score 1-0 and the ball coming home, he flipped it home from the middle of the first base line to catch the guy at the plate. Jeter also made that awesome play where he dove to catch a pop-up against Seattle in the ALCS and fell into the stands along the left field line. His on-base percentage is commendable as well. Overall, Jeter is one of the best in the league and an all-star every year.

I give Derek a 5 because he is one of the best ss around. He is a great player offensively and defensively. It isn't himself who gets him the world series it is the whole team. But still he gives it his all no matter what. And that i why he is on of the best.It is also great that he has lived up to his childhood dream though.

Derek is a wonderful athlete, and he will definately go far in his career.

Well where do I start?? Derek Jeter is an awesome baseball player and an excellent role model. He is definitely the best S.S. in the majors. He really did work hard at acheiving his dreams and goals. And of course he is VERY good looking!!

A majority of people believe that if Alex Rodriguez never existed, the greatest SS today would be Derek Jeter. But, one could make the argument that he actually IS GREATER than AROD. . .When it comes to offense, Jeter and AROD have different roles on their teams: Jeter hits second and is a table-setter; AROD hits fourth and he's the cleanup man. They are both GREAT in their offensive roles. Now, as for defense--well Jeter blows AROD away. . .D.J. dives, jumps in the air, and can grab a ball back-handed, turn in mid-air, and throw a perfect strike to 1B for an out. So, offensively, AROD and Jeter are push--but when it comes down to defense--Jeter wins and that's why he's the best SS in the game. Oh, by the way, how many World Series rings does AROD have? And how about that little thing about Jeter being the only man to be the MVP of the All-Star game and the World Series in the same year? He is the Great One that's why he's a 4-time champ!

He's quite down to earth and popular--he and NY go very well together. Even if you aren't a baseball fan, you have to know know who Derek Jeter is and I think that says a lot about his character. Most of his teammates and i say that he is hard to not like because of his personality. Even if you aren't a Yankees fan, you have to admit that derek is among the best athletes in sports today if not the best. He is the best shortstop of this eneration and will be a hard person to beat in Hall of Fame votes when his time comes. He is an all around type of player. He has his agility, coordination, his playing ability, style, poise, and looks to back him up in New York as well as in the sports industry. What a life. You're a good looking guy who plays SS in the greatest city in the world for a team that has won the World Series three of the last four years. And, oh yeah, you're the best player on the team and have gotten better each year. What makes Jeter so special is that he is never satisfied with his play and works harder in the off-season than he does during the season. The interesting thing about him though is that with ARod and Nomar around, he may never start in an all-star game.
