I have spent hours on the phone with Earthlink trying to get connected with their DSL Service. Their sales reps and customer service never have the information I need, and it typically takes two to three follow-up calls to get completely straightened out. If I had other DSL service options, I would cancel this right away.

Earthlink has yet again let me down. With the incredible amount of horrible connections and disconnection topped off with complete outages and rude representatives.

I hesitate to say that Earthlink is OK because what's bad about it is really annoying. We switched to Earthlink because the monthly rate was better than our previous ISP. That lasted 1 month! Although we usually can connect fairly quickly, we're disconnected frequently. EVERY time the machine has been idle, off, etc., the "idle disconnect" button is enabled as is the disconnect "if..may be idle"! Trying to get an e-mail done & sent, or a comment written is a really annoying task.>>Customer service was fine (after a considerable wait) but suggested that our phone company was at fault for disconnects (funny our last ISP didn't have the same problem).

Even though their monthly fee recently went up, I have only good things to say about them. They put out a good online newsletter, send you a snailmail magazine, and are hardly ever down.

I would give this service at the very most a 3.And that is if you are lucky enough to connect right away and STAY connected. Lately I have been real disappointed with this service. It takes a bunch of tries to even connect. Of course all of them count as a phone call as far as my phone service is concerned. So I have a higher phone bill because of Earthlink. Also sometimes when I do manage to connect It disconnects within a few minutes. Very maddening. Forget even trying to call EArthlink since it is a very long wait to talk to a real person and then half the time I get someone who cannot answer my questions so that means an even longer wait to get someone who CAN answer them.Once I manage to get connected and STAY connected Earthlink is like most services. YOu can surf the internet pretty well. As I am sitting here rating this service I am typing as fast as I can because I want this to go through before I may get disconnected. I guess if someone were to ask me if I would reccomend Earthlink. I would at least warn them of all the trouble we have sometimes.

Quite simply, this is the worst internet service provider I have ever had the displeasure of using, even worse than the dreaded AOL. They are plagued with extremely long call queues and entirely incompetent sales and service people. They take absolutely no responsibility for their actions, mistakes or the length of time one is forced to wait on hold. I opened an account with Earthlink after I moved, but the sales person evidently screwed up the configuration before I even got off the phone with him. When I got home to try my new account, I found much to my chagrin that the account did not work. I could not log on. Now, I consider myself an adept computer user, and I have had an Earthlink account before, so you can imagine my surprise. I called technical support and waited for more than 25 minutes on hold before talking to someone, who told me I had the wrong password because the mental giant who had configured my account had not given it the right password. He gave me my new information and I tried to log on. Again, it did not work. I called back four more times that night. Each time I either waited on hold for more than 20 minutes or was disconnected, and none of the calls helped my situation. The last three calls I have made to Earthlink have been to customer service rather than technical support, and the queue there is much longer each call I have placed has left me on hold for at least 50 minutes, and in all cases, Earthlink disconnected me before I could talk to anyone. It’s quite annoying to be listening to music on hold and suddenly hear a dial tone. It’s far more frustrating to wait on hold for an hour first.

I use EarthLink for DSL. Prior I used EarthLink for dialup. The service is great and consistent. Tech support and customer support is very helpful.

Earthlink is what I use now. They are great! Never down, e-mail is fast enough. Their website is plenty informative without having to call a techie. Depending on where you live, if you do get a slow, or buzy connection, go to their website under support and look at other local numbers. The best thing to do it call tech support and ask them to give you other numbers for your local dialup. I have a total of 6, and only 1 or 2 is listed. I dont use their software. I pick and choose what I want off the internet. That way I wont have to look at proprietary Earthlink programs, not that that is bad, but I want as much control over everything I see that I can get. Earthlink is the best from what other ISP choices that are out there. I have a laptop. I can take it on vacation and communicate with people at home since Earthlink has numbers all over the US. Yes, I like Earthlink very much. A lil more pricy than other ISPs, but better service ans support.

e-mail service sucks and customer service is even worst. My last call to them resulted in me hanging up after being on hold for over 3 hours. This is no lie-I left the phone on speaker phone, did chores, cam home and the musio on hold was still on!!!!

I liked It alot. If they had DLS in my area, I would still be with them!
Spiralingmarce 02/20/2001
I have had no problems on this ISP.

Have used Earthlink for 4 years for both my dialup and DSL accounts. Still have two accunts with them and they have been the most supportive and responsive to every problem encountered, even those that were not directly there fault.Beats the heck out of "free" services with little or no support.

good service, easy to connect to (at least in my area). Sure if you live in a big city or something of COURSE your going to get busy signals. And yeah sometimes in can be a hop in the @$$ and disconnect you in the at the 99'th percent of a download that alreadly took you and hour and you can't resume it.. but HEY!! That's just life and unless your god stuff like that just happens to make your life annoying, lol

Costs money. Great service, never busy. Great service considering it's $20 a month.

They're good but not good enough. I'm looking to change over to Mindspring. But aren't these two merging?

Merely OK.
