If you get RoadRunner service from Time Warner Cable and it goes out, then you are on your own. If you try to call their service number you'll spend ten minutes going through automated menus and then will be put on hold for hours and hours and no human will answer. You can't get answers in their chat room. Time Warner simply refuses to communicate with its customers, period. I've had roadrunner service since 1998 and it has never run slower (I'm located in Worthington, OH). I continually lose my DHCP lease, it runs slow, the DNS servers don't work right (many web sites cannot be resolved into IP addresses). The worst part is that you they are simply unreachable for customer service. I am looking into DSL - for my work I need a reliable connection that works. Also, their DVR (digital video recorder) continuously locks up, reboots randomly, and the screen is often pixelated and the audio is jerky.

I have had roadrunner for a little over 3 months now and it has CONSISTENTLY been running at less than 300k. I am a big gamer and when I log onto world of warcraft or BF2 or even older games like C&C Renegade the lag I get is pathetic. When downloading it seems to do fine but in any type of online game I get horrible latency problems. I cannot change providers because I am in the army at Ft. Benning, GA and the only provider for my barracks is TimeWarner with RoadRunner. It has been slow since I got it and I am very dissapointed that I have to spend $54 a month on this kind of service =[.

This service has gotten progressively worse over the last two years and is now about what you'd get from dial up. I wouldn't even have given it one star if I could have given it less.

I'm currently on hold (going on one hour and thirty minutes) with RoadRunner since they took over Adelphia in Los Angeles recently. Intermittent access and no access at all since their "migration." I'm not going to waste any more time by being optimistic about these guys...I'm calling SBC Yahoo DSL on Monday!

Yep,, I knew it would happen. I had Adelphia premier. Never dropped below 6mb down & 756 up. Time Warner took over a couple months ago & now, 10k - 1200k down and 16k - 458k up.
Forget support. No help from anywhere, in fact, they avoid it at all costs. Verizon DSL is looking mighty fine & when I go, out of spite, I'll drop the Cable too. My cable bill averages $70 per month. OK, not even pocket change for TW but maybe, if enough people do the same, ay? We'll see
TW,,, this is criminal.........

support sucks. RR keeps getting on the blacklist database so my son's isp won't accept email from my rr account. i have spend 2 hours tonight trying to solve this. RR chat support insisted it was my son's isp responsibility, but it isn't. Only RR can get themselves off the black list. Then I spent time with son's isp to verify this. they were very helpful and confirmed it was RR's problem. They sent me a transcript of the chat. RR said they would but haven't received it. When i checked again with RR chat support, they said it would take 24 hours. So I had to waste another 30 minutes starting from the beginning. I don't think they're training their support people well.

I ordered road runner thru road runner national. After completing the order which took 2 hrs to complete they asked me to call the local office to schedule installation. The local office had no clue of the promotion i got thru road runner national, they could not find my order. I had to call back road runner national to ask what was going on and they had no clue, all they tried to do was spell back my name and address 21 times. My bad the call center was located in canada, so u can expect. It takes 2 days for me to set up an instalation date. The local technician arrives and sets up the connection, he doesnt have a long enough cable, so the cable and modem are lying across the floor to reach my CPU. Well then it is set up and I am asked to call a 1-800 number to finish instalation. I call them and they have no idea whom to forward my call. It takes 3 hrs and 4 calls to get to the right person and I had to repeat the reason for my call to about 10 different people. At the end I felt like I was being punished for ordering the damn internet. Total time required to get connected 7 days. Total talk time over the phone 6 hrs. Thank you very much, need to throwup now.

To the casual passerby this service may seem great, look at how fast my pages load oh wow! But for any serious stuff, Roadrunner just plain sucks, despite it's downstream. Upstream is worse than DSL here, latency is also horrible with connection under load(only time you should ping as even dial up will show pretty low not under load.) The restricted site access, port restrictions that they deny but have found proof of makes it one of the worst broadband providers for online games, media stream buffs except from providers they seem to trust and especially P2P file sharers. You'll need seperate software to tunnel it through http if you hope to have a good connection to all these kinds of apps. Unfortunately thats what I do for trouble apps since they are still much faster downstream than verizon and this only matters to me because I use multiple computers. Just set your pc to use remote DNS that you trust if all you do is browse the web or Roadrunner may block certain sites. This is not my computer as I have tested this on 4 boxes and all succeed in finding these sites through external DNS. You can get good service for that for free if all you do is browse the web. But if there is another provider fast enough for you, ask yourself-is it worth it?

Roadrunner should be XXX. I have been paying outrageous fees for no email twice this week. The server is in Yellow, it is being worked on for 5+ damn hours tonight. I have important business. I would like to sue them. It is an outrage. Please, I urge you don't let this company operate without delievering appropriate service. Like American autos that were awful for years until Americans stopped buying them and bought foreign car, you can stop these companies from operating and stealing from you. I am going back to slow but reliable dial up. What good is fast if it doesn't work when you need it. Stand up to these criminals!

I'm constantly loosing the connection (on average three times/week), when I call it takes no less than 20 minutes to get someone on the phone, 3 out of 5 times, I'll get a busy signal when I call and after waiting on hold, I will almost always get the same answer - they're doing some sort of maintenance and the service wouldn't be available till the next morning. Compounding the annoyance of loosing internet service is the fact that I use VoIP phone service and without internet, I don't have phone service (except cell). I live in an area north of Houston that was unaffected by hurricane Rita, but the cable internet service was out for 2 1/2 days after the hurricane. For all their faults, and despite the supposed lower speed, SBC's DSL was much more reliable than Road Runner.

We haven't had that many connectivity issues and the speed seems to be fine (especially once I switched to Mozilla). My biggest complaint is the price. I was just informed today that the price is going up to $50 a month if I don't sign up for some other TimeWarner service! That is $20 more than I paid when I had a different provider in a different city. And, I noticed that RoadRunner's website still has the old price ($45) listed. $50.00 is too much, and you can bet as soon as another provider enters the market, I am switching. I shouldn't be punished for not wanting digital phone or cable tv.

I had road runner for about 5 years now. It was great in the beginning but lately the connection has been very un reliable that i had dsl installed to compare which one was better. Roadrunner has much faster download speed but slower upload speed. My road runner disconnects at periods at a time while my dsl( zoomtown ) stays connected. What good is fast download speed if you cannot connect to the internet. I do not even download much stuff anymore anyway.

I have had RR for over 2 years and have NEVER had to call Tech Support for anything, no problems whatsoever. I don't live in a densly populated area, so I usually have non-fluctuating speed. Originally, RR was 3.5mbps downstream, but recently they have upgraded their speed twice, now at a blazing 5mbps, meaning downloads peak out at around 600kb/s. A little more expensive then standard DSL, but a whole lot faster. If RoadRunner is available in your area, get it now!

Nothing but good things to say. I have had the service for 5 months and am very satisfied. I had a problem early in the service with the cable modem timing out, but a tech came out and fixed it, at no charge, and since then I have been downloading/surfing at normal speeds of 1.0 Mbps, up to 3 Mbps at times. Worth every penny. The net was not made to surf at dial up speeds. You need high speed to enjoy what the net has to offer. If it matters my service is in the Milwaukee,WI area

My TV died so I discontinued my Cable TV service for the time being but kept my Roadrunner... Guess what? That'll cost an additional $15 a month ($59.95!) I've never had a problem with the service itself, but is it worth DOUBLE the cost of DSL? Not to mention how plain enraging it is to pay more for less?

Paid per view programs have already been out on regular tv for years. and my rroad runner sucks. At least the tech service does. The time warner reps are rude uncaring and don't work. To 8/28/04 I was sitting holding phone from 2 pm until 4:30 pm waiting listening to their choice of sick music trying to get help with my rr.Never did get them.Oh yes their national HQ is in Canada. Not even in US.Noone there ever answered phone. I kept calling rep here and was hang up on and when I called back I ask to speak to Super I was told I would go thru Them first . Never got a super. Finally At 4:15 I got another number to call and I got the problem resolved. Next time I will call the 10 year old next door.

Customer service has impressed me. Six months ago, I signed up for a special package deal to get digital cable TV as well as Road Runner cable modem internet access. Right after my deal expired, I called to downgrade my cable TV to the bare minimum channels. A friendly customer service rep immediately offered me a 30% discount on my bill (good for another six months), just for not downgrading my cable TV service. If only getting discounts on my other bills was that easy! By the way, I happen to love my speedy Road Runner on-line connection, since it never gives me issues and keeps my phone line free. Much better than dial-up.

Roadrunner isn't too bad. Compared to anything else out there right now its great. Haven't had to many problems with it and the customer support in Columbus, Ohio is great. However, I didn't like how they raised the price. It used to be $40 if you had cable and $50 if you didn't have cable. Now its $45 for everyone. My cable bill is high ebough without slapping another $5 on it. And that dosen't seem fair to the loyal Time Warner subscribers. However, I couldn't get by on just a modem and DSL is even more expensive than Roadrunner.

I've been using Roadrunner since it came to Northeast Ohio--probably around five-six years now. I won't lie and say there haven't been problems along the way, but they're the sort of problems every ISP in the world has, and on the whole, service has been reliable, support has been easy to reach if not always super-helpful, and downtimes have been brief. And Roadrunner does not 'take control of your computer' in any fashion; in our area, there isn't a single part of it actually installed on your machine, and at the most you'll just have a simple logon mechanism.

Five personal visits from technicians and four days off work to wait for them. 175 dollar bill with charges that were completely unexplained and had to be removed. I have been quite pleased with Road Runner - it always works, and it is always fast. I can't rate them a 5 though since there were a few glitches with the service people: when I signed up they asked me if I had a PC. Well, yes I do since my computer is not an Apple. What they meant however is do you have a desktop or a laptop? I have a laptop, so when they arrived for installation, they didn't have the right type of connection for my computer. So, if you sign up and have a laptop, make sure to tell them you have a laptop! Also, I came home from being out of town once and my modem didn't work. I called the help line several times, but no one could help me. Finally I ruled out that my computer was in error and tool my modem to a friends' house and swapped it with his to test it - definitely the modem. I then had to go to the Time Warner customer service center to get a new modem. They swapped it out without question, but I had to make the effort.

Road Runner can help a little bit, if you have a cable modem, it speeds it up, and that's what it's there for, but internet service wise, I would stick to Compuserve, not AOL, and use the cable modem. Road Runner takes control of the computer, so it will boost your internet service without tangling up the phone line.

I used to use Road Runner at work and it was lightening fast, it's like a whole other internet experience. On the other hand I've also heard a lot of negative stuff from others using the service. My neighbor has it and every single time it rains the Time Warner truck pulls up in front of his house because the service has failed. He's finding that a little frustrating. Secondly apparently what they do is put you on a loop, (ie. with your neighbors) and depending on how poplulated your area is and how big your loop is greatly affects how fast your service is, the more people the bigger the loop the slower the service. Not to mention the fact that it still seems a little pricey especially for the average user when, if all you do is poke around on the web, you can get on for free from other servers. If I were paying $40 a month and having my neighbors headaches I'd be livid. ****UPDATE***** 03/16/01 Well I have recently switched from DSL (Verizon) to Road Runner and I have to say that so far I am EXTREMELY impressed on many levels with Road Runner compared to the DSL service I had (Verizon those bastards). First let me say that I ordered Verizon had to wait 20 business days for my start date, it came and went they told me I was bumped out of the system and it would be 20 more business days. It finally did come online and overall the service wasn't that great. It was super quick when it was working perfectly but often it would pause with nothing being sent or received for up to a minute. Then I moved and went through the same 20 business days to transfer the line, 20 days came and still no service and once again I was told I was bumped out of the system. No explanation just I was bumped and it would be 20 more days. I said forget it!! Who runs a business like that?? Even more annoying was the fact that I had to contact them 2 days after my service was supposed to have been initiated to find out I had been bumped?!? Not even an E-mail?!? That same day I called Road Runner and said sign me up. Same cost, and they said it would be three days before they could send someone to my door. So I'm thinking WOW three days is nothing and all the more amazing because they're actually sending someone to my door to spend an hour or so hooking me up where as Verizon (those bastards) were having me self-install and it still took them 40 business days!!! Even more incredible she tells me he'll be there between 8 and 12. The guy shows up at 8:15 in the morning, unelievable!! He's here for about 90 minutes and by the time he leaves I'm cruising the web at high speed with no speed bumps in sight. Even more satisfying is the fact that I haven't had any of the 60 second pauses in service that I would get from Verizon (those schmucks). So, in conclusion Hooray for Beep Beep and boo for Verizon DSL (morons). Oh, also just to clarify I've upped this rating from a previous 4 (from before I had the service at home) to a 5 now that I do have it for personal use.

I have had RoadRunner for a half of a year now and I am VERY happy with it. I have heard many horror stories from other people, mostly in outages and customer service problems, but I have little of those. Since I got it, it has only been out twice, once for a couple days (heh, the day I got it) and once for a couple hours. No doubt they were merely upgrading something. I do admit, when I did have to call once for service it took a couple hours to talk to someone but when I did they were very nice and know thier stuff. Where I am it is very fast because there are only an average of 24 people on a node compared to about 100 in other areas (I live in South Milwaukee, WI). Also I have gotten NO spam email to my RoadRunner address while a relative on Earthlink and another relative on Netcom/Mindspring get it every day. Another nice feature for it is this- one day my firewall (Newbie Note: Firewall- A program that protects your computer aginst hackers) set off that someone was probing my ports (NN #2: Probing ports = seeing if your computer is hacker volnerable). I immediatly checked out who it was and it was RoadRunner!! I didn't know what to think so I went to the website and found out that they were making sure my computer is secure, which is a practice they have that makes me feel very secure. All in all, I reccomend it highly. I use download accelerator (NN #3- Download Accelerator is software that downloads things for you, usually faster or more secure than your browser does it) and I usually download at about 500 Kb / s. If you are sick of your 56k going so slow this is the alternative! Also if you have more than one computer in your house you can buy some special hardware for about $200 that will allow all of them to be on the internet at this really fast speed for no extra cost! Awesome? Yes! I don't mean to sound like a salesman but this is the ONLY ISP that I can say nothing bad about. RoadRunner, Keep up the great work!
