Saw eFax charged me an extra 10$ this month on top of my $16.95/month charge...

I called and spoke with this girl that would only repeat the same thing over and over. Listen to this... I get, she says, to send 30 faxes "FOR FREE" each month!? Ha! (hum, what about those $16.95/month?) an amount which I didn't reach, and her taking me to my log page proved it... Only 11 faxes total (only because we tried to resend that one fax over and over as it wasn't going through... When I asked her How about my 30 FREE FAXES??? Or even better, HOW ABOUT JUST 11 FREE FAXES?? She would say that the pages that were going through were taken too much time per minute?! I said: "I AM SORRY TO HEAR YOUR SYSTEM IS SO SLOW!? WHERE ARE MY 30 FREE FAXES AT 16.95$ A MONTH?!" She said... Sorry there is nothing I can do. I said: Please let me talk to a manager please. She said, please hold. I held. She came back and said, sorry, my manager is busy on an other call. We will put a $5 dollar credit towards future faxes send on your account. I said? What? She repeated. I asked: What do these $5 stand for? I am calling in regards to a $10 charge that makes no sense... remember? Ow, so, they will cut it in half? Should I say THANK YOU AT THIS POINT?? She repeated: We will put a $5 dollar credit towards future faxes send on your account. Not giving any explanation as to why I get a %50 discount on a fraud-like charge? I said bye. (Need to switch services!)

Why can't you rate a service with no stars? eFax deserves no stars, it's virtually impossible to cancel the service once they have your credit card hooked. My advice is for everyone to STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the worst company ever.

Upon opening the account, the billing department put a temporary hold on using the eFax number because they could not verify some part of my credit card information (they wouldn't tell me what that was). I tried to cancel the account through toll-free customer service. They directed me back to billing. Billing sent me to the online chat function to cancel. And the online chat representative sent me back to customer service. The upshot: No one will cancel the account.

My advice: Stay way clear of this company.

I have to agree with the last few reviews that I've read. It's a total rip off. After finding mysterious charges on my account I decided to call to find out what was going on. The representative pointed to a portion of the contract stating that from time to time efax can charge a $10 fee if they so desire and the fee rate was subject to change. I immediately cancelled my account. They offered another 2 months free service and I declined. I asked if there were any additional fees. The person responded no.

Imagine my surprise when I got a $10 fee AFTER my account was already closed. So after being on hold for 30 minutes I was told that the fee was an automatic payment that couldn't be stopped. They would credit my card back in 3-15 business days. That part wasn't automatic and would have to be processed manually. The person apologized for any "mis-communication" that occurred during the other phone call.

My advice, keep all of your reference numbers when you call. That way you can point out their inconsistencies.

EFAX STINKS. I signed up for ONE (1) local efax number two years ago. My mistake was that I never checked my bills and had a automatic payment through my credit card. I don't use the fax as much any longer, so I decided to go into my account to disconnect the service. Once I looked at my account, I noticed that they have been charging me for TWO (2) lines; one local and one long distance. I don't know where they got the long distance number, but it was not authorized by me. I have made several calls to Efax's long distance customer NO-service line. Every time I spoke with a "level 1" person, I have been disconnected. This service is REDICULOUS. I would like to know if there is some where I can make a formal complaint and get this issue resolved. I estimate the total charges at approximately $500-$600...perhaps more. VERY FRUSTRATED.

eFax changed my number without even telling me! And their helpdesk refused to help me b/c I was with their free service. Free or not, they A) shouldn't change your fax #, and B) especially not without even telling you!

would get no star would that be possible...seems here only the free service for those fortunate enough to be allowed to stay that way has any merit, however after continued unauthorized billings, cancellation not being recognized for two months and then the horrid experience of hour + wasted trying to get to talk to someone...my advice FORGET IT!
Pity the poor customer service person who had to keep her professionalism (which the individual did well while her management hid behind her) as I pretty well lost mine.

It does not even deserve a star!!! Highway robbery.. you pay for nothing , they say they will credit you if you need to cancel and they just give a continuous sales blur pitch and then don't cancel your service, giv eyou two free months, until ou need to call them back again to cancel and voila yet another sales pitch. don't waste your time. as the old saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Go to the local 711 and pay to use their fax if you have to.

I've had an eFax Plus account for a couple years. In that time I've experienced a number of "issues". Clients have called stating they are unable to send me a fax, or they send a fax and it doesn't get to my e-mail. EFax changed the local fax number I had paid for, so I had to notify as many clients as possible, and pay to change my business cards, letter head, and web site. Finally, although you pay for service in advance, and pay for a year at a time, eFax canceled both my free acount and my premium account in mid-year because my credit card had expired, even though my advance payment covered an additional four months. Its a shame that when giving a review and rating there isn't an option for less than one star. If you use or are considering using eFax, don't. There are a number of other internet fax providers out there, few are as expensive as eFax, and all have better service.

I signed up for eFax through eFax.com last year, and subsequently cancelled my account after several months. eFax refused to cancel my account. Instead, they continued billing my credit card without my consent and refused to stop until I threatened them with a criminal charge of theft against my credit card. Not once did they ever contact me. They finally stopped debiting my credit card. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and found that eFax has had 135 BBB complaints logged against them within the past 36 months. in addition, here is the BBB's public statement against eFax.com: "We strongly question the company’s reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law’s licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company’s industry is known for its fraudulent business practices." All of the above information can be verified through bbb.com

I had my own dreadful experience with the eFax customer service. I was recently charge more then $300 for some mysteries services, the invoice was hard to decipher, cluttered with “service adjustment” items. In response to my eMail I was requested to call the call center. The rep on the phone started with reading out to me a standard text of the screen, this took several minutes and was not less confusing then the bill itself. It was only after I had interfered that she was willing to investigate the issue. At that moment I was so much frustrated that I decided to cancel the service.

We signed up for the paid service but have had a number of complaints from our clients that they are unable to send us a fax. I personally experience the problem. When pointed out to efax they send one test fax and say its working fine. We need reliablity especially if we are paying for it.

I feel the service is great - You just have to understand what it is - I use it to receive all of my faxes and to send when I am on the road. I am annoyed that sometimes when I send - it has a delay of an hour or so - but I can live with that - I am super pleased that I can 'see' my faxes via email on virtually any machine.

I wanted a fax service quickly. I registered on eFax's site and tried to use it. As I had used a credit card, for security purposes I had to fax my last credit card statement. It then said the verification process took 2 working days. Great! I bought a fax modem and tried to get my money back. They are "considering" my request for the £12.95 first month's fee refund but they will not refund the $12.95 registration fee. If I'd known it would take 2 days to use I would never have registered.

This service is great. E-mail faxes are so much better than the crappy paper ones...and it's free. The best thing about e-faxes is that you can access them anywhere that you can check your e-mail - meaning that you are not tied to speficic fax machine / phone number when waiting for an important fax. One mildly annoying aspect is that it is difficult to get an efax number that matches your area code - meaning that someone who lives in the same area code as will have to pay long distance charges to send you a fax.

I can understand why this may be a useful service for some people but it's been nothing but for me. When I first registered and downloaded the 1st version it was working fine. The problem was that I didn't really need it much and I mostly received wrong faxes from the US. People outside the US will pay a really big price to send faxes that way I think. Only a good option if you're an American. The 2nd version didn't work out at all. Every time I tried to open a message (which was probably not addressed to me either way, since I had only given the number to 2 persons) I got an error message. I re-installed it and is still didn't work.

eFax is really great. I use the basic free service to receive faxes and it has never failed me. I do have a fax machine, but since it is on the same line as my regular phone, it can be a pain to receive faxes (I have to know exactly when the fax is coming so I don't pick it up) so eFax basic is perfect for me since I only use it to receive faxes. eFax plus also seems like a great deal if you have a scanner and are without a fax machine. I think that "plus" service which provides a fax number for sending and receiving faxes is only a few dollars a month. They also provide helpful and immediate customer service if you have any questions or problems.

What a great service. I have had my eFax number for a while now and haven't had a single problem. When you sign up, you get a real phone number to use as a fax number. Then, when someone faxes something to you, you receive an email with the fax attachment. It is that easy. It was also a piece of cake to update my account when I wanted to change the email address.

A great example of how the Internet can simplify your life. This is a FREE service that gives you your own fax number. Then, when people send faxes to that number, eFax converts the fax image into an e-mail attachment and e-mails it right to you. So it eliminates the need for people to pay for a separate fax line, and it lets you receive faxes from any place you can get e-mails - perfect for people who travel a lot.
