I never cared for him. His big hair, and VERY baggy uniform....Still, he is one of the greatest pure hitters of our generation, and continues to produce. If he ever does get enducted in to the Hall, they will now have to place an asterisk by his career stats.

maybe if you practiced running out of the box unstead of standing and gawking for a good 30 seconds at your homeruns (even when they only bring your team within 4 runs) you'd be in good enough shape to not get gunned out at homeplate trying to score from second.  (Which i just watched happen in the 1st inning of game 5 in the ALCS). the game is now tied at 1. okay, you can hit the ball... but c'mon manny. you go home if you lose tonight. every single thing counts here. and get a hair cut.

"Manny being Manny": what other player has a tagline like that? He's definitely one of the strangest major leaguers ever to pick up a bat. Likes to do things like miss spring training because, like, cars shows are more important. But as a Sox fan, I'm very glad he's in our lineup.

As a fielder, the guys not an adventure, he's a regular thrill ride. Can sure use the lumber though, can't he?

Manny is a pure slugger who can also hit for average. His speed is non-existent and his defense is only plagued by his lack of effort. When he actually plays hard, he's one of the best. When he just plays casual, he's still an excellent HR threat and an RBI machine.

Overrated!!! I hate watching this guy whenever Boston Announcers call the game. It is actually embarrasing. You ever listen to him speak? He is a retard! Manny being Manny. Whatever the hell that means. Manny why don't you try to be Manny when I stick my size 12 up your no-talent ass.

He hits the ball harder than Ike hit Tina. Incredible bat but always an adventure in the field. . .and Manny has to be the dumbed baserunner in baseball. Great player, but mentally not worth a big contract because he isn't as disciplined as he should be.

I had no respect for him a couple of years ago. Then Theo the Wunderkind dangles him out there and there are no takers, and Bam! he becomes a real producer AND a team player. Glad he woke up after the wake up call.

He's right up there with a couple other illustrious Boston predecessors in Left Field, Ted Williams and Yaz. Ramirez is a better hitter than Carl Yastrezemski (could never spell his name) and just below Williams in hitting ability. Other than the high total of strikeouts, Man-Ram's numbers look a lot like Joe DiMaggio's hitting stats. He led the AL in homers last year, which makes me wonder if he has not been the best power hitters among the [steroid] Clean players below. WS MVP in 2004. 165 RBI in 1999. Led 2 teams (Boston & Cleveland) to 3 World Series. He still is in his early 30s and has an outstanding chance to hit the 600-homer plateau. I know he is a defensive liability, can be a goofball, and the opinion I heard from more than one person is that If he couldn't play ball, he would be working at a minimum wage job. But I have a hard time naming a better pure hitter(outside of Barry Bonds).

The guy is good, but is a little bit over estimated. He can sometimes hit homeruns, but probally needs some help in the outfield. But you can't say that the guy is bad, he won the World Series and the MVP trophy.

The guy is an outstanding hitter. Afterall, he WAS the MVP of the World Series!! He's gotta be good. He can hit some home runs. He's not the best fielder though. The guy is well rounded overall.

Manny is Manny. Whaty else can you say about him. He walks (literally) to the beat of a different drummer. Things roll quickly off his back, unlike Nomar. Defensively he has a couple of surprises up his sleeve.

i got 2 say sumthin!! u guys rememba da game 3 of da ALC.Da one hu started da whole thing waz garcia. he so overeacted when pedro threw a high pitch dat almost hit him. but dont all pitchers do dat by accident?? i no dat on an ALC game a yankee pitcher (i think nelson, but not so sure) threw a high pitch dat did hit walker, but he didnt overeacted!! c now people!! its all garcia's fault 4 starting da fight!! he showed bad sportsmanship! well then again wat can u expect from a yankee? LOL

A good hitter, but anyone who doesn't run out a play when he hits a ball into the infield (i.e. when he hit a check swing grounder to third last season and went right to the dugout while the ball was still in play) isn't going to get a high rating from me.

I have to give him a 4. he is the most talented hitter in the game today, but his shaky defense, combined with his inability to ever run out a ground ball buys him a 4.

I have watched manny play for years with cleveland. Best hitter in the game average fielder who is currently a DH. Ok baserunner if he remembers how many outs there are. A good all around player

An RBI a game. What more can you say? His fielding can be spotty (not as bad as some make it out to be) but his presence makes any lineup potent. Look for the Sox to be fierce contenders with Manny hitting between Nomar and Carl.

Without question, Manny is an incredible offensive player. His numbers have been absolutely staggering. His defense, however, is another story. Manny tends to let his mind wander when he is in the field, leading to poor fielding plays and decisions. And, he is one quirky dude. Here's a guy who was ready to hold up his signing with the Red Sox because he wanted them to hire a clubhouse attendant who was a good friend. I think that Manny will ultimately regret his decision to sign with the Red Sox. Beloved by the fans, he had the perfect situation in Cleveland.
