A great combination of speed and power back in his prime. Hes one of the best.
Lewis sucks 09/05/2004
Greatest since Marciano. just lacked wisdom.
Nutcase 09/03/2004
Hes one of the greatest fighters who ever lived. He was only corrupted by the promoters and the crazy bitch. He should be respected as a true champion not as a criminal.
BUMHOLE 09/02/2004
Second greatest after Marciano. Long live Iron Mike
Crazy Bum 08/27/2004
GREATEST FIGHTER EVER AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
marciano1947 08/17/2004
Everyone holds his boxing abilities in such High Reguard, They seem to forget He hasn't beeten any great fighters in the past decade, even in his prime his opponents were garbage, also he lost to lennox lewis an over rated skilless fighter who ducks any serous opposition
Rich Davis 08/10/2004
Devastating in his prime. Prime Mike Tyson was the greatest heavyweight in history.
jaywilton 08/05/2004
Given the state of the heavyweight division,it's possible that Mike Tyson can make an incredible comeback. But,for now he is thought of more more craziness outside the ring which has impacted his performance, inside.
the shiznit 07/23/2004
Mike Tyson is one of the greatest FIGHTERS of all time. How can you give a a 1 or 2 for his rating because he's a bad person??? This is BOXING. If you don't like it, go watch golf and tennis. Anyways, he had a frightening blend of raw power and speed. On top of that, his peek-a-boo style, reflexes and great head movement made him almost untouchable. Anyone who says he sucks should watch tape of him from the 80's and shut up.
Sbetts 07/10/2004
Ok people look at it this way we are not here to rank what kind of person these fighters were. We are here to rank what they could do in the ring. Tyson as a fighter was a pitbull with the most vicious of intentions for all who stepped in the ring with him. Now no he could have never beaten ali, thats a fact, because about the time tyson came in for a power punch ali woulda been gone and his left hook to the body and right hook to the head would have ended it just that quick. But all that crap aside tyson in his prime was one of the most devastating champions ever, and he could have been one of the top 5 greatest if he woulda kept his head on straight and thought about boxing instead of females. The man was a machine he just let his head/emotions for everything get in the way of his career. If not for stupid mistakes imagine what couldve been?
Mistachill 07/07/2004
Prime Mike Tyson (the night he fought Spinks) probably beats every heavyweight who ever lived except Ali. In his prime, Tyson was Joe Frazier with better defense, hand speed, more strength, and a better chin. Obviously didn't have Frazier's heart or commitment to the sport. Didn't have the level of competition during his prime to get a 5 star and his career has be viewed in two parts: pre-Don King, Don King and after. Pre-Don King, Tyson was a few quality victories away from being mentioned with the top 5 or 6 of all time. After hooking up with King, career down the toilet.
swangmaster8 07/06/2004
greatest boxer but a horrible person. In my eyes he shouldn't even be on the list. If you have to bite someones ear off to win a match you shouldn't be on a list of greatest boxers.
thepointedhand 07/05/2004
it makes no sense to disregard the fact that he spent half his prime in jail and that he is ~50-4. that is phenomenal. tyson is underrated
rollinglover 06/29/2004
everybody who gave a 4 or 5 star said he was great in his prime well of course he was great in his prime i thought he was spectacular in his prime but buster douglas kicked his ass then holyfeild kicked his ass then when i saw tyson bit holyfeilds ear in that second fight i began to think is he like insane? then i saw lewis beaten him up then i thought to myself ok he's finished... so i give him a two star just for being very good in his prime.
hotel283 06/23/2004
maybe not the greatest ever (Buster Douglas?) but easily the most exciting to watch...back in the day it was like watching Christians being thrown to the lions, and we were all the madly cheering Romans
Mike tyson fan 06/14/2004
The best of all time, he went 45-0 with 40ko's and his downfall came when he went to jail. Thanks to a b/s case and lying efforts frm the grl, mike tyson's carear went into a plunge. Tyson was no rapists, it was a b/s case. He also has a savage personality frm growing up in jail and prison since he was 13. He didnt have parents like some of u idoits who think he's mentally unstable. Imagine growing up in rough and guetto nieghborhood and u see why he is who he is. If holyfield would stop head button then tyson would have never bit his ear.
doctorseven 04/19/2004
the most devastating puncher in boxing history ( rare ability to punch with same power in both hands) when he was in shape and trained without distraction 1985-1996 mike was great going 45-1-0 39kos capturing 2 world titles.
DeathRattle 03/31/2004
HE had a good winniung streak at the beginning of his career. He could pound opponents into submission. However, legal and personal issues, and several media incidents must have been huge distractions to him. After winning the title from that British boxer, that's when everything took its toll on him. He started to lose a lot more (almost looking like an exact opposite to his early years).
kinkykinks 03/13/2004
you got to be kidding me dick weener he was great in the 80 and buster douglas beat him and everything went downhill from there anybody agree?
DickWeener 01/28/2004
Great fighter. I get tired of you People who rate him low whinning he isn't a good role model for your kid. The Man isn't Ward Clever Ok, but he was a damn great boxer....And that is what we are rating here boxers, if you can't take it, maybe you should not watch boxing and think about maybe watching Mister Rogers or something.
LadyShark4534 12/06/2003
Good boxer. Extreme brawler. But has such a rotten personality!
President -X-D 09/10/2003
As a boxer, he can still hit as hard as anybody. As a person... I dislike all his criminal behavior, although he hasn't done anything recently. As a sideshow, he's great. I do think he needs to get out of boxing, get medicated, and find some mental help for himself.
TheEvilSaintEv an 09/09/2003
tyson did show promise, but he just had too many problems outside the ring. mike tyson = sonny liston, plain and simple, both had power and intimidation as their weapons. however, those weapons eventually became useless for both fighters. for liston it was ali. ali wusnt afraid, ali was bigger, faster, smarter, and sonny had no chance against him. for mike tyson, it wus buster douglas. douglas wusnt afraid either. he knew how to take tyson down: BOXING. he didnt slug with tyson, he boxed tyson into submission. call him a criminal, thug, monster, animal? ya know wut? thats wut happens when u grow up in the neighborhood tyson grew up in. Cus MAYBE would have kept at least some parts of tyson's life together, if Cus hadnt of died first. "unstoppable in his prime"? look at wut douglas did to him! he beat tyson senseless! after that, tyson wus just another guy, his reputation wus forever tarnished, his invinciblity wus shattered, his confidence disappeared, and his fire wus gone. tyson knew wut to do to be a great boxer, he just couldnt get himself to that point of greatness. tyson will never be considered the greatest of anything. except scariest or most unstable.
djb400 08/09/2003
In his prime, short as it was, he was in the same league as Ali, Frazier, Norton, Foreman, Liston, etc... If he had fought Holyfield during both of their prime's, and beaten him as badly as he was beating all the others, then he would have been considered one of the top 2 of all time. Unfortunately for him his legacy will be of mental instability instead of boxing.
Chrissy_c_1888 07/19/2003
In his prime "Iron" Mike Tyson was in my eyes one of the greatest heavyweights to step into the ring, he had it all, speed, power and aggression. These days when he fights it is clear that he is a shadow of his former self, the fight with Lennox Lewis, i beleive he lost that fight because of Lennox's height advantage but if Mike took the fight more seriously and trained more he would still have gave Lewis a run for his money (even with Lewis being about 8inches taller than him) Also i am rating him on his boxing ability inside the ring not on how well he behaves outside it! Disturbed, rapist or not Mike Tyson is one of the greatest heavyweight fighters ever.
$$TOMMY$$ 07/10/2003
In his prime young iron mike was indistructiblle the fights that hes had recentlay have been utter crap at least if he traind for the Lewis fight it would'nt have been so embarisin to watch it's a shame because he had so much talent.
CanadaSucks 07/05/2003
Hear that? That is me laughing at the people who give Tyson 4 to 5 stars. . .memo to you fools- Tyson is a bully not a boxer. Tyson NEVER beat anyone good. (He took the title from an aging Larry Holmes and beat bums like Spinks.) Like any bully, he lost to anyone who stood up to him (Holyfield, Douglass) Like any bully, all a boxer had to do was make "Iron Mike" think and watch him self-destruct in the ring. Tyson would have been a great boxer if he had any mental discipline and patience in the ring. On the positive side, Mike had a great punch. . .but Ali, Foreman (younger version), Holyfield, and Joe Frazier are better boxers hands-down. All of the great heavyweights would have out-boxed Tyson. How can anyone consider him a great heavyweight?
mikeholly93 06/26/2003
Rapist, Wife Beater, Ear Biter, Lousy Bad Tempered Boxer!
kolby1973 06/22/2003
UPDATE ! LMAO @ the reviewer trump86! Of course the men and women in the same room as Tyson are going to be scared out of their wits! I think I would be scared too if there was a known rapist and cannibal running loose. Good grief ! :( Previous rating: I really don't know much about boxing, boxers, or anything about the history of this sport. But I do know that anyone that could possibly support Mike Tyson is sick. How could anyone condone his behavior and just act like nothing ever happened? And this doesn't even count the incident where he bit someone's ear off ! Good grief ! What a freak.
trump86 06/21/2003
The reason some people here give Tyson a 1 is the same reason the media becomes a judge, jury and executioner of MEN who have been accused of violent crime. Political correctness. All thanks to the feminazi influence that has plagued an entire civilizaion. Tyson is no worse than those Charlie's Angels kicking men in the crocth knowing the men would never hit them back because women are 'innocnet' and 'pure' and 'more mature' (i especially laugh at that last one). Anywayz, stop judging Tyson on his moral character or becuase you just hate his tough guy, I know I can kick ur @ss image. His presence in the room is enough to scare the wits out of men and women.
RebelYell1861 06/20/2003
Ear-biting rapists shouldn't be aloud to box for a living, gaining fame and millions of dollars. This man is a disgrace to humanity.
wetsack 06/19/2003
As horrible as this man may be, I can't neglect the fact that I am drawn to him. He is very entertaining by his unpredictable behavior.
titan_9_mcnair 06/19/2003
yeah yeah,i no i no.criminal this, rapist that.thug this, insane that.look, forget his wild antics for a moment.the guy is a great boxer.and love him or hate him,you really have to admire him for what he's accomplished in his harsh life.he was nobody, from nowhere, with nothing, and now he's mike tyson, one of the greatest boxers ever.
D-ztroya 06/12/2003
a no doubt legend in his day the way he done what it was he done maaan now to all a you who claim that was nothing but brute strength and whatever the... think again.
dmx1999 06/05/2003
I believe that the early Tyson is the greatest boxer in the world. Even think he could stop Ali. However, the Tyson today is not the man he use to be, all he has is power, and he doesn't really know the word "sportsmentship" the funny thing is that people still want to see him. and he is still making money.
iknowfighters 06/01/2003
one of the hardest punchers if not the hardest puncher ever.u people need to stop rating him on his personality and remember how good he was in his prime before his troubles.he very good speed and tremendous power and could slip punches well.give him a break there is alot of people that have done worse than him.
Brian B 05/28/2003
were it not for boxing no one would know who Mike Tyson is except for his lawyer and the victime of his crimes.
PlayaB04 05/16/2003
Mike is the one of the best of all time throughout everything he has went through
Southga 04/09/2003
Tyson would have been the greatest if he wouldn't have met Robin Givens. Tyson is a 5 minus Robin Givens (the one wrong woman), and he gets a 4. A true champion has to be a champion outside the ring to be a champion in the ring. He is a true "Sampson" case, and he will never grow his hair back. Please retire...
Silverbunny 03/28/2003
He should be rotting in jail. He is a dangerous man, not only to the human race, be to himself
Duane Bobbick 03/27/2003
Never won a close fight. Not any. Mediocre in every way save for charisma, speed and balance. His vaunted power is a function of getting punches in unseen.
StockyBrawler 03/07/2003
Severely Overated. Tyson's place as #17 is exactly where he should be- on the all time heavywight list. Since we are considering boxers from all weight classes, he should not even make the top 40.
unscarred53042 03/01/2003
Obviously, I'm rating Tyson on his boxing here, not is perosnal life. but that is exactly what we're supposed to be rating him on. He was absolutely devastating in his prime, perhaps no boxer was ever as dominant as him. You simply cannot question him being a great boxer. Terrible person, yes. But that's not the issue!!
rogue 02/19/2003
A heavy hitter with a 68 I.Q. Without Don King to shedule his fights for him he'd never have even been a contender.
EDDIETHEGREAT 02/12/2003
If he had not have had to go to jail and had other problems outside the ring he would have gone down as the greatest ever. As it is he is the most talented heavy weight that I have ever seen, and I have seen everyone!
Boxer786 02/08/2003
Mile Tyson is the Best boxer on the planet, Obviously that is after Muhammed Ali, All u's out there aint know wat ur talking about.. Tyson in boxing is like Roy Keane & football. But no one is knocking on bout how dirty Keane's tackles are.. If it wasn't for Tyson half the people would lose hope. He keeps people going.. Its the media printing loads of rubbish regarding his personal life. Lets face it ur all jealous coz he earns Millions of dollars in one night & yet u can't earn $50.00 a night. "Naughty by Nature"
brown 01/26/2003
i agree with johnny roulette.....escept that i think tyson would have beaten ali
Lord Stone 01/06/2003
He was the coolest until those Holyfield fights. Now he is just a loser.
Ridn4lif69 12/20/2002
Tyson is Probably the most dominant boxer of all time. Tyson's personal life and critics and Don King is what ruined him. People should not rate him on what he does outside the ring and rate him on what he does inside the ring and there aint many who can do what he can in a ring
