The BEST COLLEGE Coach today- Again I say College not NBA. Don't compare apples and oranges...
dutch178 12/30/2003
Thank you Ninobene for articulating the difference between Mike Krzyzewski, and say Bob Huggins. Coach K takes young men, actual student athletes, and molds them into a team that is USUALLY greater than the sum of its parts. You have also illustrated what makes NCAA football superior to NCAA basketball, it is not a just a farm system for the pros. The number of NCAA All-World players that dominate the NBA is miniscule. I don't know of any contract the Nothing But Attitude league had with the NCAA to develope studs for them.Perfect examples of what Coach K is are: Bobby Hurley, Christian Laetnner, Cherokee Parks, and Trajan Langdon. None of these players had the individual skill to be a dominant player at the NBA level, and were ONLY significant in college because they adhered to K's tutlege. I am a die-hard NCAA fan, and will readily defend coaches such as K, Tubby Smith, Eddie Sutton, Lute Olson, all men who are a credit to their craft.

He sucks high school boys' dicks to be able to get that many McDonald AA's to sit on the bench. But hey, he probably does a good job at it and he wins games so I have to give him four stars.
crackdog 12/29/2003
Black majic?
ncsuoldwolf 12/28/2003
The best current coach. He wins, period.
Smokefree 11/06/2003
My only regret about this rating, is that I had to give him any stars at all. Hes the Barry Switzer of college basketball--having been a VERY mediocre coach at Army (just a few games over .500 during his 5 years), and after talking Pete Gaudet into quitting as head coach at Army in order to save his sorry a$$ at Duke--went on to make Pete a scapegoat for all of his own failure. Stuff like this ridiculous quote, is another reason why IMHO Chefsky is the most over-rated coach since Doherty won AP caoch of the year: 14. jibman33 , on 7/4/2001 4:47:00 PM, said: Duke was awful before Coach K got there. DUKE WAS FREAKIN ACC CHAMPION THE YEAR BEFORE! COACH K ARRIVED, AND WAS IN THE NATIONAL TITLE GAME JUST TWO YEARS PRIOR!!! Coach K, like most Dukies, was met at the door witha solid silver spoon. Which is why I said it and I'll say it again: Coach K = The Barry Switzer of Basketball.

The best college hoops coach in our day. Only Wooden is better than him.
dmm9 10/21/2003
Best coach in the game.

NBA bound? Don't forget to add Kansas and Connecticut to the schools you want to play for. Bill Self is great, Jim Calhoun even better.
Mike Hildebran 07/12/2003
He's vastly overrated. Put him at a school where he had to work at recruiting and he'd be a .550 coach.
Turtleboy 06/13/2003
An absolute lie! Smoke and mirrors. Has yet to develop a player into a great player and instead just recruits them. A used car salesman instead of a coach! Runs a dirty program that everyone ignores. Has the biggest mouthpiece in Dukie V but rarely lives up to the hype. This man has wasted more talent than Mack Brown.
CollisonGal4 06/02/2003
Where is Roy Williams!!! Duke why cant you just get over yourself!!! You are always overrated and Im still wondering where Roy Williams is!! Wonderful guy!! Wonderful Coach!!! Come on folks!!!
Southga 04/10/2003
It's amazing how one coach can recognize and mobilize talent on a consistent basis like coach K. Although my knowledge is limited from a historical perspective, I wouldn't be surprised if he's voted for one of the best of all time.
robbo 04/08/2003
he is the devil on earth.
gocards03 04/02/2003
What coach could not do this... Look at who they recruit every year, Look at the number of fouls called on the team. Compare that with the number of fouls called on there competitors? Do they just not foul? No!!
Look Look 04/01/2003
COACH K only has one problem keeping him from getting a 5 star rating from me. Its not that he always has his teams ready to play, can change game plans in the middle of games to keep his teams on top, or has more pretty boys on his team tham any other in the NCAA. The one thing that keeps him from the fith star is that he recruits guys that are so good that they don't stay four years. Kentucky, UCLA, and UNC have guys that come to play ball for those schools because of their history and tradition as well as for the coach in Kentuckys case. Most guys come to DUKE to play for Coach K. He has class and has made DUKE everything it is. As a Kentucky Fan I now look at DUKE is our biggest pain in the butt since Dean Smith left UNC.
CanadaSucks 03/12/2003
The man is a winner. Yes, he gets the best players but that was not always the case. Give him his due.
Ninobene 02/28/2003
Listen up, young men. If you want to play in the NBA, you avoid Puke like the plague. He has had countless McD AA's in his program, and has 1 1/2 impact players in the league (Hill gets 1/2 a vote, he's always hurt). Chris Carrawell is the only ACC Player of the Year not to make it to the Show...why? It's K's SYSTEM. You aren't prepared to play NBA ball for Krzyzewski, you are prepared to fit into his SYSTEM. You are a spoke in a wheel. If you want to play big time ball, go to Maryland or Arizona, let a REAL coach show you what it takes and prepare you for greatness. If you want to be a BMOC and hook up with a few coeds and disappear into oblivion, go to Puke. Where is Chris Carrawell? Trajan Langdon? Battier will be lucky to last another 3 years. The only impact player (Elton Brand) to play at Puke left early. Is it a coincidence that he is an NBA stud? I DOUBT IT. Look, K's system is great at the NCAA level, but he turns chicken salad into chicken gizzards as far as talent is concerned. He is worried about the Puke system, not turning young studs into NBA superstars.
BassHawg 02/27/2003
Great recruiter but has shown in recent years that he's very average with X's and O's.
Jsulli8040 02/23/2003
The best, I hate Duke but everybody seems to want to play for him so he must be doing something right.
Babyzora 02/09/2003
The only good thing I can say about Duke is Coach K ! His record speaks for itself.
fade 02/03/2003
look at what he's done for duke's team.
Noonway 01/28/2003
Overrated..
shoes3542 01/23/2003
Mike Somethingorother is a joke. A blind midget with alzeimers could coach a team with people as good as Duke's. By the way. Who came out of Duke who was ever any good in the NBA.
dome 11/13/2002
I'll admit Coach K is a good man. But I think it is more the players that do it on this team. Take J. Williams for example. He basically led the team. He hits the 3, steals, defense, him and his team did it this year, NOT Mike Krzyzewski.
endevor 02/05/2002
maybe the best ever
jibman33 07/04/2001
Duke was awful before Coach K got there. He built one of the greatest dynasties the game has ever seen from scratch. He has an impeccable eye for talent, and makes his players want to play basketball. Watching Duke games, you get the feeling that his players have the same respect for him as he does for them. Always gracious in victory and defeat. One of the greatest coaches of our generation in any sport.
jim234 01/11/2001
Coach K! They need you in the NBA (the Celtics do, at least.)
Munson 08/03/2000
Whenever I ask any of my friends to name the school that they would choose to go to to play big-time college hoops, Duke is consistently the choice. And, Coach K is the primary reason. Not only does he win year in and year out, but he does so with such dignity, class, and grace. No other coach is able to combine passion and compassion like he can. Whether he is on his knees in front of his bench imploring his team to play defense or crying at a news conference because one of his seniors is graduating, Krzyzewski is the model of what all coaches should be.
magellan 07/23/2000
As much as I hate Duke, and I hate them a lot - I have to give Krzyzewski some credit. I have never seen a Duke team not ready to play, and I have never seen a Duke team without poise and discipline. The defining moment for my opinion about Krzyzewski came in the 2000 tournament, when Duke was on the verge of being upset by Florida. The game was all but over, and Krzyzewski had just pulled Chris Carawell, the Senior leader of Duke, out of the game. As Carawell was coming out of the game, Kryzewski stormed down his bench and made everyone on the Duke bench, players, coaches, and trainers, stand and give Carawell a standing ovation. The gritty Carawell stopped, hugged his coach, and burst into tears. Kryzewski cares for his players, and they reward him by excelling year in and year out.

Duke B-Ball. No matter how much I hate the Devils(and I do mean hate!) You can not deny all this man has brought to the table.
upchuck 02/29/2000
the best coach i have seen in the past 15 years, a true gentleman on and off the court...his players seem to emulate him off and on the court as well...he assisted under bobby knight, but his persona is just the opposite.
andr2925du 12/10/1999
C'mon -- 16 NCAA tournament appearances in 19 attempts -- who's better?
Dragonfly 11/14/1999
One of the great active coaches in any sport, college or pro.

Duke basketball rules! Mike Krzyzewski is a great coach and they have great players!
vins800om 11/04/1999
Duke's coach always seems to have his team in the top five. He must be doing something right.
Uige517om 10/30/1999
Coach Krzyzewski has established a dynasty at Duke. He has created a team that is constantly a contender for the national championship. Moreover he has brought together players that are not only a team, but a family.
BADM67OM 10/26/1999
This coach has got to be one of the most consistent coaches of the century.
