Windows 2K was the best Operating System at the time. It is lacks many features, existing in the more advanced systems, but there are still many computers, operating it successfully in the modern environment.

Avoid Windows, and any other Microsoft product, at all costs. Unsafe, unreliable, and prone to failure.

one of microsofts better operating systems

We still use Windows 2000 at work, and I was basically forced to upgrade from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 in order to install my new virus, etc. protection software. So far I have to say I'm not impressed. Several of my favorite yet older programs don't seem to work as intended (suggesting a lack of backwards compatibility), and my version didn't come with some of the extras (e.g. desktop themes) to which I've grown accustomed. The bottom-line is that while Windows 2000 may have some technical advantages that are better known to more advanced users, I can't see why this version is an improvement over its predecessors.

I'm running Windows 2000 Pro and it's just as stable as XP but without the bloat and eyecandy, they both run on basically the same NT kernel. If you just want a stable OS and dont care about pretty graphics and bloat that slow your pc down get this.

Way more stable than any of its predecessors. Blue screen of death is rare but is not very backward compatable. Good product for the office.

I want the person (or persons') head on a plate. . .bring the guilty to me NOW! How many man-hours have offices wasted on this horrible OS?

Where I work, I use Windows 2000 and Mac OS X Panther. There really is no comparison. Of the two operating systems, OS X has given me a much more stable work environment. This is the very reason I convinced my company to purchase a G5 for video editing. My Windows computer is now limited to just e-mail and Internet. I don't even know why people call Windows an operating system. After all these years, Windows still runs on top of DOS, the real PC Disk Operating System. With Windows being just a nice-looking application on top of DOS, it's no wonder why it experiences more problems. My company has been thinking about upgrading to Windows XP. However, our IT department cautions that XP has greater instability than 2000. I have a feeling we'll be on 2000 for a long time.

Use it at work. VERY stable.

MS finally got it right with this one, combining the ease of use of Windows 9x while incorporating the stability of the NT Kernel without the annoying eye candy/handstands of XP. Too bad there isn't a security update like with SP 2 for XP. Other than that, very happy with this OS.

My laptop has win 2000 and I enjoy it pretty much most of the time. My only problem is that I miss the XP setup wizards and the look of XP. But I'd pick 2000 over 98 or 95 anyday!

Hate it!

Fairly good OS for business users. Vulnerable to viruses much more so then Linux. Not an ideal solution for your gateway server.

Very clean and no-nonsense OS. Very good with networking and great for laptops. very stable business OS.

Yep, I agree. I am an IT Manager and have worked with OS's right from DOS and Win2000 is the best so far, better than XP because it doesn't try to be too clever yet clever enough to keep your Apps going without any problems and still well supported. No doubt MS will stop support for this in a couple of years and force people to move onto annoying OS's like XP !

2000 Is defiantly the best of the Windows series. It is the most stable of the Win O/S's and is compadible with just about every program you could run on 98. Been using 2000 for about three years now and after the almost constant crashes of 98 it is refreshing to not have that happen now....

Im own my Windows 2000 laptop now and it has just been perect, like my 98. Too me its just a refreshening of 98.
