Windows XP 1

Microsoft has failed miserably every time since windows 3.1. My computer at work shows not responding at least twice a day. The security holes alone in XP should make it the worst OS for internet users. Every Windows user should talk to someone who uses a mac and see the strengths Apple offers. 2 years and 9 months later, everyday use, NOT ONE CRASH.OS X The single greatest operating system. Mac has continued to improve the best interface. Oh, and wireless Airport Extreme another perfection thanks to Apple

Windows XP 2

Windows. I can't stand the empire that has emerged from perhaps the worst attempt at an operating system platform. I have fallen victim to the Microsoft monoply. Windows XP, despite being better still is the worst choice for computing needs. The sole reason that I gave it a 2 and not a one is solely because of Microsoft's saturation of the software market. It's products mainly Word, Excel, and Powerpoint are great tools, but placed on the unreiable windows platform, there useless. XP still has the Windows Crashing. When XP crashes however, you may have a chance to somewhat survive(unlike 2000 which crashed almost every startup). I unfortunatly have owned windows 95,98, 2000(Millenium) and now XP. After XP I have finally learned my lesson. Apple and Mac's are the next age in true reiable computing. I use them at school, and find them easier, unbeiveably faster, and incredibly reilable-Definatly worth the extra money. The reason XP has become somewhat more reiable is because it's beginning to mirror Mac's. If your here shopping for a new computer, take my advice and stay far away from Microsoft and windows. The list of problems I have with windows are too numerous to list. I'm constantly on the computer and at least 10-15 times a week I find my self cursing out Microsoft and Bill Gates. Too Many bugs, too many problems, and too little customer service. Forget Windows all together.

The OP's have been going downhill. . .I thought Windows ME had problems until I tried XP. Yikes. It crashes, it freezes, it increases work time at the office. I am starting to miss good old Windows 98. . .

First of all, Windows XP is not professional looking at all. If you are into cartoons and you want your company to look cartoonish, this is the operating system to do it with. Unfortunately, this cartoonish look can cause a problem. In order for the romper room title bar, which is bigger than 2000, the forms get cut off on the bottom. The second problem I have with Windows XP after only 3 weeks of use, is the search in files. It doesn't recognize an extension that isn't for a Microsoft sanctioned file. Thank you Microsoft for thinking you are the only one that writes software! At least the Microsoft web site gives you a way around this. The biggest complaint I have about XP is what happens when the error reporting program (dumprep.exe) starts to execute. Everything starts running with stone-age speed. I had this happen to me 3 times the first day. All I can say is if you want to stay sane, turn off the error reporting!

Windows XP 4

When I first got my new computer with WinXP, I was put off by it. It seemed that is was too "user-friendly" and too resistant to manual control. After about the first few months, it has kinda grown on me. I wanted to try Red Hat Linux, but my system rejected it for some reason. Aside from Windows, I haven't ever used another operating system. With that said, I'm rating this in the context of other Windows only, not all operating systems. It's faster and more stable than any previous Windows (although, the fact that I'm running it on a better computer does influence the stability and speed). Inspite of its good qualities, I'm only giving it a 4 because of its lack of support for MS-DOS programs.

Windows XP 3

Windows XP has some glaring pros and some glaring cons. The pros do outweigh the cons, fortunately. The whole layout, to begin with -in keeping with current trends that can be found everywhere else- is ridiculously-kindergarten oriented: Icons are huge and goofy looking, popup explanations appear everywhere (even in Microsoft Word) whenever the mouse pointer is over ANYTHING (thanks Bill "the moron" Gates!) and I've had so many annoying bugs that it's not even funny. For example, by clicking on "search for files" I can't locate a single file on any directory with this application. I've had uncountable other inexplicable glitches that might be permanent or temporary that defy all logic. The whole system is a glitch and a joke in many ways. Bring me back a condensed, intelligent looking layout. You can have the best of both worlds where the layout is sophisticated looking but user-friendly as well. No one seems to know how to combine these two facets anymore. On the upside, Windows XP, for better AND worse, makes everything SO EASY. Setup for everything -software or hardware-is very automatic and simple and it's easy to find answers to questions. Windows XP is mixed baggage and not easy to recommend but if you're a freakin' idiot who's never seen a computer before, this is the only OS you'll ever want. I just wish the designers hadn't assumed EVERYONE was a freakin' idiot who had never seen a computer before...

Windows XP 3

After dumping MS windows altogether over 2 years ago and going with Linux, I recently have been trying out an XP system. All I can say is that it seems much hasn't changed except it's more pleasing to the eye now. Seemed to me that ad's were popping up everywhere, obviously in the browser, but also in every other program. Windows should be called the spyware and endless commercial ad's system. Using Linux I had forgotten what it was like to be a windows user. LOL!

It's a HUGE improvement over the old Windows systems (so far)--I haven't had a problem using it yet (though it seems a little too "user-friendly" sometiems). I've had no crashes using XP. My friends who have used Win. ME and XP ALL absolutely hate ME and can live with XP. It seems to run a lot smoother than previous versions (so far), so I don't have much to complain about yet.

We had Windows XP installed at work a while ago, and the difference is absolutely amazing! Our database doesn't crash all the time and everything seems to run far smoother than before. A big thumbs up.

More shod from Microshod. Icky GUI, and yet another example of Microsofts "There's only one way to do it" mantra. Generations of users have been crippled by Microsoft's terrible software, and this is just more of the same.
