I'm on Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), this is the one drug that I find hard to shake.
trebon1038 04/22/2008
It has been a known fact for decades now that nicotine is a factor in many cancers (depending on the form one uses it) and heart disease. It is also a known fact the second hand smoke is dangerous in its own way. I quit 18 years ago and am very glad for the no smoking in public building laws that many states are passing.
twansalem 04/22/2008
My problem is more with the most common way of using nicotine, than with nicotine itself. When you smoke, you force those around you to smoke. I guess I'll give the Grizz gang one thing. They can get as much nicotine as they want without affecting the people around them.
GenghisTheHun 04/21/2008
I was addicted to it for years, so I don't condemn. I only warn.
drkseph 01/13/2008
Nicotine by itself in high enough doses is lethal, the same as salvia and cyanide. However in very small doses its a pleasant drug. (Oh and they use tiny amounts of salvia in American spirits, does the same as nicotine) . Not good to get into it but if you want to thats chill, I need my smoke.

Thankfully, cigarettes were one vice I never really acquired a taste for, and I was always unsympathetic and intolerant towards those who couldn't kick the habit. As I got older, I became a bit more understanding and lost the smug, judgemental attitude. One of my late friends, very strong-willed in some ways, told me that he had attempted to stop smoking on numerous occasions and just couldn't. I think he had once stopped for a couple of months before giving in to the temptation and starting again (he died of a heart attack in his late 30's, although his ill health wasn't solely attributable to cigarettes...he was an equal-opportunity substance abuser). Awhile back, I used to go to a bar with a girlfriend, who smoked. For some reason, I liked having something in my hand as I drank, and on occasion I'd bum a cigarette off her. As time went on, even though the smoke hurt my eyes and the menthol burned my throat, I began bumming more and more of them off her until it became something of a standing joke between us. The lure of the cigarettes was insidious, and my craving grew slowly but surely until I couldn't have a drink without a cigarette. I finally decided, "This is ridiculous...like I don't abuse enough things already that can kill me", and stopped cold before the habit really enveloped me in a seriously dangerous way (the romance with my girlfriend didn't survive much longer than my romance with her cigarettes). Thankfully, the cigarette monkey was never able to get a firm grip on my back (anyway, it would have had to shove aside the alcohol monkey, the pill monkey, the opiate monkey, the...).

Please don't do drugs!

Usually just makes me feel sick
jetjock 04/01/2007
It depends on how it is used. As the chemical itself, it vasodilates blood vessels and increases dopamine flow in the brain, producing light euphoria and relaxation but at the cost of being highly addictive, more so than any other drug. It is ok if used in moderation. If you are going to use it, whether it comes in the form of smoking or chewing, be responsible because it can be a path to self destruction and regret. If you are strong enough to light up a cigar or cigarette only as an occasional treat and not use it for self medication then it can be enjoyable. If you start to find danger signs or start to use it more and more, cut it out and don't go back.

It is a (legal) drug that kills. People are warned, but they persist. Sadly, even overtaxation, hostile legislation and stupid package warnings don't stop our loved ones from using it. But wait . . this is a free country isn't it? If you enjoy this drug and you don't hurt non-users, you should be allowed to determine your own fate. Any of the other reviews in this section could apply to any number of (illegal) drugs. Decriminalization should be considered without all the hysterical propaganda.

I smoke and have for a very long time. I think about quitting but I'll just have to see as time goes on. My advice to anybody that doesn't smoke especially kids don't start. Its addicting and when that time comes and you want to quit and you want to quit you will find it harder than you can imagine. I like that alot of the youth today are deciding not to smoke.
AsYouSpeak 01/25/2006
my happy place drug. relaxes me so well annd lets my thoughts wash over me. definately calms me down, has different effects for different people. i'm not trying to condone the fact that i am a smoker, but it is just my life, my desicions, and i enjoy it :)

I find it funny how people are rating cigarettes and smokeless tobacco instead of rating the actual drug nicotine. People are saying stuff like "My grandma quit when she got on oxygen!" and "This kills a lot of people!" Last time I checked nicotine didn't kill anyone... but the other thousand chemicals produced in tobacco combustion do. Nicotine itself provides feelings of relaxation and stress reduction. It has also been shown to improve memory and protect brain cells from diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Don't believe me? Read this article... http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2003/11/031112 072839.htm So want to use nicotine without getting cancer (once again not nicotines fault)? Then I reccomend smokeless tobacco such as skoal because it dosen't burn therefore it doen't have the thousands of chemicals produced in cigarette smoke. Once again if you don't believe me look here... http://mangans.blogspot.com/2005/10/smokeless-tobacco.html

Very addictive and harmful, despite Rush Limbaugh saying it isn't.Two of my ex-girlfriends were so hooked on cigatettes, and my Grandmother only quit when it almost killed her.I used to smoke a pack a day.I got heavy and decided to get in shape, went to the gym,and found I had NO wind!I was only 19 or 20!(started smoking around 13 or 14).I quit cold turkey-lost 25 pounds of fat and inside of 2 or 3 years was almost 200 lbs. of solid muscle.
antimatter235 11/24/2005
One of the most addicting drug in the whole world!!! Since smoking is cool and feels and tastes good I don't want to quit, so it doesn't matter. Nicotine is subtly pleasurable, that's why cigarette breaks are so popular. You can get nicotine in many ways: -Smoking/Chewing/Snorting Tobacco -Nicotine gums -Nicotine patches Each of these method of administration subtlely modulate the effects!

All of the best drugs are leagl. Grab a pack of Camel non-filters and enjoy.
PlanetaryGear 06/17/2005
Rotten junk! Second only to heroin and crack as to its addictiveness. Got me by the ballz at the ripe age of 15. NEVER START!!!!!
Mr.Political 03/02/2005
As is the case with all vices, smoking is harmful to your body, to others around you and a bad way to cope with life. That said, I enjoy smoking and have made the decision to do so fully understanding what can happen as a result. Compared to some of the stuff other people take, smoking looks as harmless as eating a Hersey's Kiss...
