Not for everyone's tastes, but the show has a way of getting underneath your skin. I think the show is so appealing because the characters are so real, and you can identify with their trials and tribulations. The writing is superb, and the actors are completely right for their characters. Once you get past the quirkiness, you'll be hooked.

This edges out my former favorites ER and West Wing as THE best show currently on television. The Sopranos is good but this is better. (And it's done more for gay people than Queer as Folk ever will).

THIS IS THE MOST THOUGHT-PROVOKING, INNOVATIVE, BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN ,INTRIGUING, FUNNY, DEMENTED, TOUCHING, AND UNBELIEVABLY ADDICTIVE T.V. SHOW I'VE EVER HAD THE PLEASURE OF WATCHING IN MY LIFE!!! I'VE NOT ONLY BEEN DRAWN INTO THIS POWERFUL MAGNETIC FORCE MYSELF, BUT I'M RECRUITING MANY TO JOIN IN THE "SIX FEET UNDER" CULT, AS WELL. AFTER ALL, I CAN'T GO THIS ALONE...LIKE ANY OTHER ADDICTION, I WON'T BE HAPPY 'TIL I DRAG A FEW DOWN WITH ME....BUT WE'RE ALL MORE THAN HAPPY TO SUCCOMB TO THIS MONKEY ON OUR BACKS. THANK YOU ALAN BALL FOR FIRST, GIVING US THE BRILLIANT "AMERICAN BEAUTY", AND THEN THIS WONDERFULLY WICKED, YET TERRIBLY TOUCHING, FUTURE CLASSIC SERIES!!! BRAVO!!!

How can something be so dreary and depressing and yet funny at the same time? This is black humor times 20 - makes Fargo look like a day in the park. I'm not a weekly watcher, but I have seen enough of this show to have experienced its magnetic grip. Just sort of pulls you in and keeps you there - wondering what they'll do next. Frighteningly original.

One of the BEST shows to come along! Well worth getting HBO for!

It's a little strange at first but it grows on you. I find myself turning it on if my husband is busy or I am not watching another show.

It has eveything you could possibly want, gay sex, straight sex, crazy relitives, a wacked out daughter, a wacked out mom, all wrapped up in a haunting theme.

A whole new viewpoint. Interesting.

This is absolutely the very best show that HBO has ever had. It is relatable, the people who bash the show, must be very boring. This is a awesome show. I wish I knew when the new season was!

I have to watch this show every week. This drama makes me feel what death is really like and now I feel sorry for Funeral Home owners.

I just couldn't get into this show. I tried for a few episodes, and really hoped to like it. The plot just seemed drab. I'm a tv-aholic, I'll watch just about anything and be entertained. So when I started hoping the phone would ring while this was on, I knew it wasn't the show for me. Sorry guys.

My fav show on tv. great acting and writing!! I have not seen another show that can bring me on such an emotional rollercoaster ride as this one. I think about how life is so funny at times and at other times how cruel and senseless it can be, and how we can really never be too sure about tomorrows. It is really a very touching show that I hope will be on the air for a long, long time. My fav episode is the one with the gang guy named Paco. When David didn't want to let go of his hand,I could feel the emotions of that scene. My six year old daughter passed away almost six years ago and that episode brought such a rush of emotions it hit me like a freight train. I just sat there and wept. The show is #1 with me. Dana

I'm really glad that I pay a lot of money for cable, because HBO has been a saving grace. SFU keeps getting better and that's a very good thing. I hope that HBO continues its track record of *cream of the crop* writers, directors, shows and actors. If they continue, I will continue to watch the channel.

This show gets better every week! I LOVE it!

This show alternately makes me smile, makes me sad, makes me gasp, or makes me laugh right out loud--and all in the course of one episode! I tend to watch each new ep twice, because it seems like I always miss a few things the first time around. The relationship between Nate & Brenda has really piqued my interest, and I can't wait for more clues about her mysterious past next week, but I love ALL the characters...truly a great ensemble cast. :-)

I've never been addicted to a show like this before. I love the characters. They're all so complicated. Can't wait for next sunday.

This show is AWESOME ! ! I have never been so addicted to a show before in my life. Its my family to the exact pin point, except for the funeral home. but were just as disfunctional and i love it. I hope everyone else thinks the same way so HBO will continue airing the great show.

I have never been this addicted to a television show in my life! This is the greatest show I have ever watched. I just LOVE the characters and the actors that portray them. They develop so well. I LOVE the male actors. They are so handsome and talented. Everyone should watch. This is such a unique and wonderful show. It is one in a million and there will never be anything else like it.

Coming from the man who created the brilliant and heartful testiment to modern living, American Beauty, I was very excited about watching this new series which is produced, written and directed by the man who wrote my favorite film of all time. I was very disapointed. The characters were not relatable and the way they were made you want to distance yourself. You really didn't care. I just kept thinkig about how I was going to have to watch these annoying characters for season after season. This would have made a much better premise for a feature film. I could stick it out for an hour or two. But for months on end? I don't think I could take it. Don't get me wrong! The Actors do a relativly good job acting these characters out and the show seems like it was written...o.k. but overall it is too much on a down note and looks at life with wat too much sinicism for me to get any joy from it. Even though it takes place in a mortuary a good peice of the time, it could let a little sun shine in. The only thing this show has going for it is its writter, producer and director which I hope, brings this nifty primises head out from under the mud. Could be a great show. But, then again, I don't own a funeral home.
howardN 06/19/2001
I own a funeral home. This series is very realistic. Everyone should watch. Its awesome

This show premiered last night and I'm anxious to see if the quality of the writing and acting can hold up for an entire season. If it can, HBO will have done it again. This time, the networks will have no one to blame but themselves. Unlike, Sex in the City and Sopranos, Six Feet Under doesn't have nudity or carpet f-bombs throughout. The show is about a disfunctional family that must deal with the death of the father who is killed by a bus as he drives to the family business's new hearse to the airpot to pick up his oldest son flying in for Christmas (nice run-on sentence). The show is dark (after all, a good deal of it takes place in the mortuary), but very funny. The writing is superb and the cast is great. It looks like this show will help the time pass until a new season of the Sopranos.
