Depends on whether it's of Beatles or Hendrix caliber, or 3 Doors Down and Donny& Marie's 'Goin' Coconuts' album..

CDs are a great gift if the person giving them knows what you like and what you already have. For this reason,a gift certificate to a store that sells music might be safer.

I would like some more rock cd's, old school rock primarily. If I got today's emo garbage cd's then I would pass, but my rating is based on a old school rock and roll cd. I approve of this.

Kind of a tricky present. Either you are buying for (a)a man who has a passing interest in certain types of music or (b)a man who has more than a passing interest in certain types of music. So if you go and buy a CD of that type of music, then you may possibly encounter the following issue: If (a), you run the risk of buying them something they have close to no interest in. If (b), if they are like me, you run the risk of buying them something they already have, as they will probably have so many CDs that you will not have a good overview of what they have and have not got. Often, but not always, the best strategy is to pick something totally off the wall. For instance, the CD title '1000 years of Korean folk music' sounded vaguely threatening as I unwrapped the gift paper, but I was compelled to listen nonetheless. And indeed, I may yet play it again, if I ever need to shake off those last few boozy hangers-on at house parties in the future.

CD's like videos and dvds are good if you know your man's musical tastes.

I enjoy getting cd's for Christmas for the most part. The only drawback is that I have specific tastes in my music and I have to tell my family which ones I want. Then, the surprise is ruined. By the way, please include a crowbar so I can remove the cd from its case.

They make good stocking stuffers.

With CD burners becoming quite popular and cassettes still a viably economic form of creating custom albums, CDs are ok gifts, but blank media (provided you have the hardware) comes out better in the end!

If you know what he would like, then the right CD is a great gift.

A favorite of mine. There is no greater addition to your life than that of a musical type.

This would probably depend on the age of the guy. I would imagine the younger the more likely they would be in the market for tune collecting. Then again there could be some Baby Boomer guys trying to replace their favorite old vinyl albums with CD’s as well as add a few new titles to their collection so that might be an idea for them too!
