Tools aren't a bad gift but I would prefer to get money. I use a lot of tools in my profession and am consequently very picky about what I choose to buy and use. A tool has to provide the right feedback or it isn't useful at all. Besides, most tools that I buy are orders of magnitude more expensive than the average giftgiver is willing to spend.

Nice, especially for guys like me, but I just bought a sweet Makita drill and as a result my power tool needs are met for the moment...

A useful gift,if the guy you're buying for is handy. The problem is,though, for a guy like me who has lots of them, the person buying them might not know I what I already own.

Possibly dangerous as the right tool is only in the mind of the receiver. Seriously, it is very difficult to get the right thing for the typically, er, selective man.

Tools make great gifts because a lot of men like to build things, fix things, re-work things etc(cars, woodworking, things around the house, the yard, the garage etc)

It's kind of boring to get tools for Christmas. I mean, some guys may find it to be the absolute perfect gift, but unless something needs repairing right then and there, it's not something I would want to necessarily get for a Christmas present. They could always come in handy later, though, so it's not what I would call a bad gift.

It's definitely a gift you can use over and over again.

My husband spends all year telling me what tools he needs. Tools to men are like shoes & purses to women!
