I am generously giving this garbage one star because it won't let me post unless I rate the food ... In reality it deserves ZERO stars!!!
I'm a breeder of dual purpose Beagles so our hounds are very active, and of course, we usually have a need for a good puppy food. A few months ago, I tried the Wellness Just For Puppy with a pup I kept back from one of my litters, and at first was very pleased with the results. We had firm stools and very slow, even growth. However, several weeks later I tried it on another litter I was weaning, and had problems with a high volume of soft stools which the pups recycled compulsively. I have NEVER seen a litter defecate so much, nor have I ever observed them devour their own stools like it was food. Sorry to be so graphic. But while most pups, at one time or another, will eat poop by watching the dam clean up or just to taste it, I have literally never had so many problems with puppies just literally wallowing in their own waste. Unfortunately, I did not associate the feed with the compulsive stool eating until later on, when the two I kept back from that second litter and the other one from the first ALL began to eat their poop, and the poop of other dogs, compulsively.
Yes, they are still growing well on Wellness. But the foul stench of their bowel movements is not normal. It smells like a dead thing rotting :( Just disgusting. One little pup has constant soft poops and the occasional bout of diarrhea, but all poop several times daily.
Now onto the CORE. I tried ONE bag of CORE Original for my adults right after I first started using the Wellness puppy. They too pooped 3-4x daily, started eating poop, lost weight, had dull coats and a tremendous thirst! They drank and urinated copiously, and the urine was watery. I have one 5yr old dog who became very, very lethargic and irritable after starting CORE. About a week or so after introducing the food, he had a petit mal seizure, the first in his life! I switched food a few days later and he was 110% back to normal. No seizures since, although we are still trying to determine underlying cause such as hypoglycemic fit (which the Vet thinks may be likely, since his blood glucose was a bit low - 41) or the possibility of inherited epilepsy. Either way, this food did quite a bit of damage in the short time we fed it.
I have washed my hands of holistic food. This is the umpteenth one we've tried that has failed miserably. Believe it or not, we are now feeding Science Diet Active Adult and the dogs are just THRIVING! Soft, glossy coats and even energy levels ... and they only poop once a day, very firm stools that are have a low smell.

I have a 5yr. old full pitbull and he seems to be allergic to a lot of things. So, I slowly transitioned him to the Wellness Core brand and things started off great. For the first month he stopped licking his paws, his stools looked healthy, and all his sores began to disappear. About two months in my dog began vomiting and started having the absolute worst gas and loose stools; bloody at times. I was then convinced by the store manager that the Wellness Core was too rich in protein and switched to their lamb version(Green bag)...In hindsight I think was convinced by all the rave around the holistic ingredients. I slowly transitioned him to the lamb version and things began to look bright and lasted for two months. Then my dog began to show the same symptoms and has cycled back to his bloody loose stools. As of now I am feeding him bland chicken breast and rice until I find something safer. Does anyone have any recommendations???

Have 3 mix breed dogs 2 are half chow. 1 full Pit Bull. & 1 mix lab. One of the chow mixes & the pit bull are allergy prone. Their hair was falling out & they had hot spots all over. I searched and searched the inernet for the best resolution. Diet turned out to be the best thing and after reading and reading the reviews www.dogfoodanalysis.com, I switched to Wellness and my dogs are healthy, energetic and the sores are gone and they LOVE it. Each dog food is different and sometimes it takes a while to find the one that will work, it took a month for the food to stablize them but the result is fantastic.

This food had good ingredients, but our dog just didn't like it. Even I could smell the difference between Wellness and her other food, Wellness was more...wheat-y? At any rate, probably won't be buying this anymore because my girl didn't like the taste.

I decided to switch my 5 mth old mini schnauzer to Wellness Just for Puppy, thinking it was a higher quality food. BAD IDEA. After transitioning her to it, she started having the WORST gas and loose stool. Our poor pooch loves the taste of it, but it definately does not agree with her stomach. I'm so glad I found this page because I suspected it was the food causing this problem all along. After staying up all night with her last night while she cramped over in pain, I will refuse to purchase this food ever again.

Has anyone noticed on the Wellness website that they no longer list the ingredients for each food. I just bought a bag of wellness just for puppy and the ingredients had changed, it now has rice bran and I know it didnt have rice bran before. Months ago when I would go to the site to read the ingredients they were always listed, this concerns me.

Hi There, I'm a mom of 2 German Shepherds, one of which has severe digestive problems. He came with Iams when I got him, and he was terribly ill. We worked with our vet for MONTHS trying to figure out his allergy/digestive problems. The vet recommended Wellness Core, and it's the only food my sensitive shepherd can eat. Immediately he had solid stool and was only going 2x a day. He lost about 10 lbs, but is at a healthy weight and is full of energy. No more getting up in the middle of the night, no more heavy breathing, no more runny stool and vomitting. My other shepherd has an iron stomach and can eat anything, but we have him on Wellness also. We also get him the Wellness digestive food, it's venison and rice. We have tried the Wellness seafood brand, and he had problems digesting that. So, we stick with Wellness Core or the Wellness healthy digestive line. Every dog is different, but this food is the only food my dog can live a normal life with. Frederic the german shepherd is forever grateful for Wellness.

Heartstone I would highly recommend Orijen dry dog food. I have tried every food for my highly sensitive and picky rottweiler and this food has been nothing but amazing! He looks great and he seems to have the most energy ever. Most dogs will eat it alone but if you want to get your dog to really like it you can mix it with a little wellness grain-free wet food. Dog's really like the taste of the wet food from wellness. However, their wet food does cause a little gas as well! Merrick is a great wet dog food too. It does have whole bones in it, though, which scares some people. But definitely try orijen! I can't say enough good things about it!

My dog has been on wellness for a few months now. I would say in the
past two weeks she has been passing gas and plus now vomiting up alot.
I am going to stop her with that food. But, I don't know what to give
her that will agree with her stomach. She is a beautiful boxer and I
have had her for 3 years. Any help would be greatly appreciate it.

I have two Standard Poodles who have lived happily and well on Wellness; one up to 9+ years, the other for 5+. My characteristically picky-eater female became pickier and pickier over time. My boy became uncharacteristically reluctant and finally refused to eat what he has been eating since probably 9-10 months old. They both ultimately developed diarrhea. This eating problem started with the FIRST bag of Wellness in the new packaging, not a single serving prior to that. When it first started I assumed a spoiled bag (in the heat of a Central California summer) and simply replaced it with another from my usual 40+YO independent pet store source. My second replacement, with the persistent feeding problems, was purchased at Petco, which only recently began carrying Wellness. The problems continued and worsened and I stupidly went back to my usual store, grabbed a third sack and tried again. Finally they BOTH began to refuse to eat. I never attempted to manipulate them with additives to attract them. This all took place over a period of only 3-4 weeks. Last night I grabbed another brand of the same fish and sweet potato meal and they both ate enthusiastically for dinner, then breakfast. I returned home this evening to my usual daylight poop patrol to find sold poops without a trace of the usual "adjustment to a new dog food" looseness. YES!! WAHOO!! OUT'A SIGHT!!! I'll tell ya', folks, I've received instant feedback validating my suspicion that there has 1) been a change in some sort in this food which 2) is in some way toxic to their digestive system. This experience has taught me to trust them in ways I have never had to do before and I will forever trust them with their food, and much earlier in their attempts to communicate with me. I will be emailing Wellness about this experience, telling them that they have lost a longstanding consumer of both kibbled and canned food for two large dogs due to the changes they have made in their production of these foods. and phooey! I'm not going to waste any more time sending them samples so they can deny culpability. And frankly, I'm not interested in testing what I have here, although I will probably bag the quart or so I have left from having returned all three bags of leftovers from my experimental feeding and throw it in the freezer for any necessary future need. I'm done with Wellness! They cooked their own proverbial goose in this household. Take care of yourselves and your 4-legged friends.

I had to do a slow transition gradually adding the Wellness dry to his dry food we were on and very slowly I added the canned duck.

He hated the purple bag samples so I had him on the green bag lamb but the last 2 bags were dry senior.

The vet recommended slow transition because they will get loose stool until their sytems catch up to the change.

I know the coat and skin oil had that affect because he just had a better time with his potty now. I questioned using oil because of pancreatitis and stuff anyway

wishes for all the best.

We are on Wellness wet and dry mixed. My 13 yo schnauzer likes the Duck in the can and his crunchy is Senior Mix. Hhe is doing just great with it and I stopped using coat oil because he kept getting diahreah, now he is much better. I recommend this product with high marks.

My boxer pup tried Wellness kibble and just could not tolerate it.  Loose stools and general lack of interest in this food. I have mixed feelings because several of my friends swear by this brand.  My pup likes the wet food, but the stools are on the softer side.  They are raising their prices 10/1/08.

I know people have had mixed results with Wellness but this food has had a life changing effect on our 8 year old mixed breed.  She has had terrible skin infections for 6 years with numerous "hot spots" all over her body.  She was miserable and always itching and scratching.  The vet had us try various foods, Iams, Science Diet, Purina, etc but our dog never got relief.  While at Petco I discovered Wellness and bought a bag of the senior dog food with a couple of cans of the Duck and Sweet Potato wet food.  Our dog loves it and after three weeks she is completely free of any skin issues.  Her coat is thick and she seems so much happier.  No digestive issues except a little gas now and then....but based on how happy she is that is ok.  I'm sure other high end foods would have the same effect on her but I'm not changing.

I love this food. When we got our puppy, I tried Ultra and Natural Balance and finally Wellness. Both Ultra and Natural Balance, were not good. I found my dog eating more and poop very loose and inconsistent. With Wellness, her poop is very consistent and 3X per day and uniform in size. She is a small cocker spaniel, very little shedding, her coat is beautiful and she has lots of energy. I don't think I will feed anything else. Each dog reacts differently to the food and you just have to find the right mix.

Wellness represents a new generation of uniquely formulated, all-natural dog food which rivals human food in quality, nutrition and the cooking process. The primary protein source in the Wellness line is human grade deboned chicken or turkey, Atlantic whitefish, duck, lamb, or venison - depending on the formula.

Wow - other reviewers' stories are so similar to my own. I switched my dog to Wellness. My dog's stool become progressively looser, which I assumed was just due to the transition from another dog food. After 2 weeks, however, my dog started having severe and uncontrollable diarrhea, as well as the most pungent flatulence problem I have ever smelled in any dog OR human. Two days later, her stool became mucousy and bloody. I took her to the vet, who tested her stool for parasites - the test was negative. I finally got her stool to firm up after about a week, after feeding her rice, chicken and canned pumpkin. A week later, I switched her back on a NEW bag of Wellness, and she's started having gas and diarrhea again. She's NEVER had these problems with any other dog food. I should add that another symptom I'm seeing is very frequent urination. Something is clearly not right with this product, and since I'm not the only one to describe these symptoms which seem to be specific to this brand, I don't think it's a question of allergies.

I switched over to wellness super 5 mix from EVO about a month ago and my 3 yr old amstaff mix has been doing very well. Transitioning can cause a bit of diareah and vomiting, but that is perfectly normal. As for the bad things I have read, not all do well on certain foods, especially foods that do not contain fillers (corn, by products, etc.) I have also have a 10 month yr old rot/pit mix that got sick everytime I attempted to feed him EVO (a grain-free, high protien food). The only food he has done well on has been purina one, which I dislike because of all the fillers it contains. However, I cannot control what his stomach can handle. It varies with ever dog.

My 2 yr old pug has been eating Wellness for about 5 months. He has never, up until 2 weeks ago had a loose stool, let alone gas...well now he has had the most horrendous gas and diarrhea. I put him on the boiled hamburger and rice diet and he clears up within a day, but as soon as I try to put even a little bit of the Wellness in his diet he starts up with diarrhea again. I took him to the vet and they put him on flagyl and fast balance and told me to continue with the hamburger and rice for a few days until the diarrhea stops. I did that three times now and tried to slowly put Wellness back into his diet and every time the same thing happens, by early evening the diarrhea is back. I am getting worried about him, as I can't imagine he is getting enough nutrients by eating hamburger and rice everyday. I don't want to continue feeding him Wellness, but how do I introduce a whole new food to him when I can't seem to clear up his diarrhea? Anyone have some advice for me? Thanks!

I recently put my 2 1/2 year old cocker spaniel on the wellness food, after hearing from everyone how wonderful it is for them and they will live a longer happier life. Well I don't see how a sick dog can be happy!! First I tried her on the core diet then after a 3 week transition she was having a hard time holding her stole so i was told by the pet store to try the wellness super 5 mix. Since yet another transition from the eukanuba to the wellness she has been throwing up yellow bile and cannot stop itching. Also she has always been an energetic little girl and since changing to this brand she has been very lethargic, seems unhappy. I had her on Eukanuba since she was 8 weeks old and never had a problem with the brand, even if my husbasnd picked up the wrong blend. After another night of her getting sick I put her back on the Eukanuba this morning. I do not recommend this brand of food!

Tried the Whitefish and Sweet Potato variety for my allergy dog. It is extra stinky which equals extra yummy!! Ingrediants are good also, mauf is one you can depend on too. However it did not agree with her sensative tummy. Made her poo 6x everyday, while on other brands it is a usual 2x a day. I am going to try the Simple Solutions line in my rotation and will see how she does on it. It is also now offered at Petco.

I have nothing but good things to say about Wellness foods.  The only con is that it is very expensive especially when you have to buy dog and cat food.  I will not feed my pets anything with corn, wheat or by-products and this food has none of those.  My pets do very well on this food.

People need to realize that not all pets tolerate "good" things in foods and that's why their pets can become ill.  A lot of good quality foods including Wellness can be too rich for some pets which cause itching, loose stool, vomiting and diarrhea.  Also when switching to a new food you must gradually make the change and not just switch them immediately over.  In the past I tried Chicken Soup and Natural Balance and my pets had issues and refused to eat the food.

Oh my goodness!! Thank god I found this site. I thought I was crazy when I had to rush my puppy for bloody soft almost soft-serve-like stool two weeks ago on a weekend to the emergency hospital. My 7-month-old German Shepherd/Lab mix has Struvite Crystals and it was recommended by the vet to try Wellness or Canidae. I went with the Welness Dry Puppy Food and almost instantly she was having issues with soft diarrhea and gas. She would strain and leave multiple (typically 3 lumps) each time she went No. 2. I felt so bad for her but when the blood started, I freaked. We had thought she had digested a rock a few days earlier and may have had intestinal blockage but according the the x-ray we had done, she was fine. The doctor recommended it be a food alergy. After the stool test was taken it was determined that it definitely wasn't worms or parasite. So...the doc put her on Flagyl and still 5 days into the medication her stool is still soft as ever!! After reading these posts and realizing I'm not alone I'm immediately putting her on rice and chicken or cottage cheese. I'm either going to try Canidae or Innova next. I'm actually really upset right now that I've just spent over $500 in medical bills for her due to this food! What an aweful nightmare. IF you do try it, keep an eye out and good for you if you don't have these issues but if you do...take your dog off of it right away!

I have a Chion dog (Chihuahua/Papillon)Once I became aware of how bad some of the dog foods were, I decided to do some research on dog food and reas some reviews. What I noticed about the reviews for Wellness was that either the dogs and owner love it or hate it. I think it all depends on your dog. Every dog is different and for some, the food may digest well and for others not. My dog loves the food. Yes, he still begs for table scraps but we completely cut that off. He doesn't have aproblem with the food. On the first days of transition he did have a bit of loose stools, but after about a week they were solid and perfect. I am glad a changed him to this food and hope that the quality is not affected because of the mass distribution for PetCo.

The recent posting is a cause for concern, especially the one from lindajk1113 who obviously has used Wellness for years like I have. I just bought a new bag of Super5Mix Lamb for our 2 yr old border collie/lab mix - and I am hoping for the best. She's been on this for over a year and we've never had problem. I am hoping that the problems folks are having are an exception.

Our 13 yr old pure bred lab was on Super5Mix for Seniors and he does not have any problems. We just completed a 1 month transition between the Senior food and Wellness's Simple Food Solution (venison and rice) due to his allergies. His food is topped off with Wellness 95% Salmon (just 2 Tbsp twice a day). Again no problems with stool and such.

Our first dog (since passed on) was originally on a brand by Nutro that is now discontinued. When we had to transition from that our knowledgeable sales person at the independent pet store recommended Candidae. Unfortunately it did not agree with him - the usual diarrhea problem. And that's when we switched him to Wellness and he never had a problem. He stayed on Wellness until his old age when we transitioned him to Wellness' Simple Food Solution topped with some Lamb & Sweet Potato.

So, I'm hoping for the best with the new bag I just bought. But as with any dog food, not all dogs are going to agree with all foods.

I've used Wellness for years, first the supermix, then the senior, and for one of my six dogs who has allergies the 1 protein/1 carb. All except one of my dogs are rescues and when we put them on this food their coats improved dramtically. Then all of a sudden we rescued a puppy and put her on Wellness puppy and within 1 week she was having diarrhea and gassy smelly stools non stop. We had her to the vet and checked throughly -no coccidia, giardia or anthing else. Then we bought a new bag of food for the rest of the gang and everyone else was getting the same thing. We took all 6 in - tested them--had them on 4 courses of antibiotics - the same result. Then they were put on a perscription diet by Hills (high fiber w/d) and it all stopped. Our vet wanted to try it for 1 month. Did that and just started transitioning them back to their Wellness and guess what--soft smelly non formed stools. Looks like the company changed something but my poor dogs can't use this food anymore--will be going to the store today to get another premium food.

I have a 9 month old very picky eater Lab. My sweet little lab sleeps in a crate at night. She has had about 10 different days of watery diarrhea in her crate at night. She has never had an accident in the house until we bought our new bag of WELLNESS. I purchased the bag at the end of June and Zoe(lab) started with diarrhea within 1 day. I noticed the bag had changed so I went back to the store Pet Supplies Plus) and spoke to a very experience person. She explained that no one else was having the same issue so she felt like Zoe might have some sort of virus. I took Zoe off dog food totally. She has been on boiled chicken tenderloins and white rice. Her stool changed within 3 days back to solid/normal. So, I felt like it was time to go back to dog food. She has been back on WELLNESS for 1 week now and we are back with the watery DIARRHEA. I am so discouraged. I do not like switching dog food but it seems as though that is exactly what I have to do. That you for deafIAin;t and cbald1976. Atleast I know I am not crazy. I thought I was purchasing a high end food. I am not going to tend to my baby girl Zoe.

We're having a similar experience to DeafIAin't below. Our dog has been on Wellness for over 4 years. I have always supported local pet shops and OMH for providing such high quality food. I bought a 30lb bag of super5 on Monday and she was okay for a few days. But by Wednesday, she was vomiting bile. On Wednesday night, she has had uncontrollable loose stools. On Thursday, she even had an accident in the house (a first for her!) that was so foul, I became sick. On Saturday, there was blood present. That's when I became very worried. I will be taking her in to the vet's first thing Monday morning, but additionally I'll call to discuss this issue with OMH. With the vet's permission I'm going to try Science Hill for a few days & see if we see an improvement.

Wellness 1

Okay gang - here is what just happened to me...... my 2 Labs (in perfect health, 5 and 2) have both been on Wellness Super 5 Mix for 2 years. On July 2nd, I opened one of the "new" bags (New bag design, has the little "we changed our bag but not our food" sticker)by July 3rd - 10pm the younger one was throwing up until nothing was left but the yellow fluids. She also had the free flow diarrhea, yellowish and noxious. She could not even keep water down. The older one had the free flow, gassy, yellow diarrhea too but no vomiting. July 4th in the morning I had to take the younger one to the 24/7 Emergency vet as she was so weak that she could not walk without staggering. The younger one had ALL the blood tests plus xrays as they were thinking blockage..... she was kept overnight on fluids and came home the next night with the Hills Vet canned i/d.......after 5 days both were putting out solid, normal stools. So I started to transition back - 12-15 kibbles in the am (with the canned) and the same 12 - 15 kibbles w/canned in the pm - well, by 4:30 the next morning both were back to the free flow diarrhea, not quite as bad because there was other food in them, but it was obvious to me where we were headed. It was then I KNEW it had to be the food. I had been writing down everything they ate, when they drank etc. since the onset. The younger one was hit harder yet again. I immediately got some of the Hills i/d back into her and the next round of stool was firming back up. On Friday, after calming down, I called Wellness........ spoke to a customer care representative who took down all the info. She told me that they changed the bag not the "recipe". As we have all learned - the ingredients, although the same, may no longer be coming from the same suppliers. As it is because of the loose standards in the food chain - JUST BECAUSE IT SAYS MADE IN THE USA DOES NOT MEAN THE INGREDIENTS ARE FROM THE US. (It is the same in the human food chain too) If you did not know this - Wellness/Old Mother Hubbard were sold to an investor group. I suspect that when the NEW investor group came on board they wanted to increase margins and profits. They HAVE decided to go into one of the big box pet stores (I saw the ad last week and I can't remember which one Petco or PetSmart). They probably had to increase production and had to get more ingredients into the production chain. I think there is something wrong. Has anyone else noticed the new kibble has a stronger smell (not a bad smell, just stronger) and I believe the kibble is bigger and grainer (at least this 30lb bag is). They asked me if the bag had been compromised - it had not - and are sending me a mailer to send them food from the bag. I plan to keep on pursuing this on Monday (14th). PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - call Wellness and tell them what is happening I really feel something is wrong after reading all these posts. You may save a life. What if there is an older dog that the vomiting would set off a seizure or something! It only take a couple of minutes.

I put my SCWT on Wellness and he loved it. But, like others in the listing problems started. I tried different foods in the past and since he is picky and was having itchiness that was getting worse the older he gets, I tried to get less Yeast and grains out of his diet. He did itch less and at first was fine on Wellness. After a couple of months he started having serious diarrhea, bloody and liquid. Put him on the old faithful, chicken and rice and he finally got better. Added the hard Wellness back and he seemed ok. Added the wet Wellness back into the diet and the diarrhea started again.
Too bad. I thought I finally found a food that worked for my dog.

Wow--some of the reviews here make me question the sanity of the dog owners. Wellness is a VERY high protein food, and unless you wean the dogs off the wheat and gluten filled foods SLOWLY, you will have all sorts of problems. I have two rescue dachshunds, one with a recurring yeast problem, who are doing so well on this food--shiny coats, solid stools(and much more compact stools) but you have to go SLOW with these foods, and mix them with dry (I actually think the canned food is a little too rich for small dogs.) But to see a 5 year yeast infection cleared up in a month is quite amazing to me, and the dogs skin and eyes are clean and clear. You just can't go from a carb-rich food to a protein-rich food in a few days.

The breeder I got my German Shepherd puppy from had her on a crappy and cheap corn based dog food! I wanted her on the best food possible and I heard great things about Wellness from a lot of people. There have even been studies that concluded that Wellness was the best food to have your dog on. I did the gradual switch and she had PUTRID FAT OLD MAN FARTS!!! I have never in my life smelled anything like this! The worse part was that we drove to pick her up and spent a whole 4 days in the car with her awful gas! We were literally rolling the windows down every 5 minutes. On top of that her stool was soft and pudding like. She poops about 6 times a day and seems to cry because of her upset stomoch and gas. The poor thing also vomits up yellow bile. I thought it was the treats I was giving her, an occasional pigs ear or dried chicken strip for dogs. But after over a week of withholding all treats she still had the runs and bad gas. I also bought Wellness dog treats and those just tore up the poor girl's tummy. She has the runniest poop she has had yet. On top of it she is very skinny, she actually eats more than the recommended feeding per day but she is so thin. The food seems to go right through her. I was worried about her having Giardia or Coccidia but she doesn't have either. She also does not have worms which I thought could possibly be the cause. I had her on a camping trip with me and ran out of the Wellness canned (Which by the way is upsetting her tummy far worse than the dry) And I gave her Science Diet Puppy with I think Lamb and Rice. She had the hardest and healthiest looking stools I have ever seen a dog have! She only pooped twice a day on the trip and the putrid gas went away. I wanted to try to keep her on Wellness and see if she could adjust. But she is only getting worse. I am going back to Mudbay today and they agreed to exchance the OPEN bag and the 10 cans of wet fod for something easier on her tummy. I paid $60 for a 30lb bag of puppy and $30 for a 12 pack of wet puppy. Then the Wellness treats are like $10 a bag. They will exchange all those for me even though the treats and dry food are opened. My puppy litterally eats better than I do. I don't spend more than $20 a week on food for myself. BTW... Mudbay is an excellent shop. They are expensive but the Petco and Petsmart type stores do not carry half the high quality and natural items that Mudbay does. I could not Find Wellness in the petco either. The raw diet was not working out well with my cats so I took the open bag to Mudbay and they exchanged it for me for some canned food. They carry great products and have great staff! Also, I am not against Wellness, I was thinking that once she is onlder I may try putting her on Wellness again (maybe). I think they have your pets best interest in mind and want to give your pets the best there is... But at the same time I think they overdue it a bit and then shit hits the fan (litterally)!

I switched my 3 year old english bulldog to wellness about a month ago from Nutro Natural Choice lamb and rice. Her coat and energy has been about the same, but her appetite has increased drastically. The worst part though, has been the gas! I swear she could wake the dead some days by smell alone. I have heard great things from other people, so maybe its just not a great food for dogs who are prone to gas (like bullies)! I dont think I will keep her on it after this bag because she just digests too fast and too smelly!

I'm rating this product at 3 stars BUT... I have an Boston Terrier pup, Toby, and we're having a tough time with the Wellness Just for Puppy. It was the food his breeder had started him on and he eats it like it's his job but the gas is out of control. We're seeing inconsistent stool and lots of it. The ingredient list is nearly impossible to fault but something isn't quite working for him. I use pieces of the kibble as rewards so it's not like we are putting a bunch of foreign treats into him and pointing at the dog food as the culprit for gas and loose stool. I do believe that this is a good company and that quality ingredients are being used but it may be too rich for some pups. These little guys all have different needs and utilize nutrition differently and unfortunately, we are forced to transition to something else or be gased out of the house. I will be slowly transitioning to Castor and Pollux Ultramix for puppies and we'll see how that goes. It too is holistic and has a good ingredient list but is just slightly lower in fat. I wouldn't discourage trying Wellness because for some it may be the answer but based on the reviews and our experience it isn't for everyone.

Wellness as a food is actually pretty good. The ingredients read really well and my dog did well on it. What I don't like about Wellness is the company that makes it! OMH used to be privately owned but has recently been sold to private investors. When OMH was privately owned they agreed to only sell Wellness in independent pet retail stores. Since they were bought out, they have been pulling their support from the independent pet retailers. This makes me nervous. I've heard rumors that they may begin selling Wellness in grocery or big-box stores like Petco and PetSmart. This makes me wonder how long Wellness will actually be a GOOD dog food. The original owner of OMH actually cared what went into the food. Will these new private investors change the quality of the food to make extra bucks? Let's hope not! I've been working in the pet retail business for years and its sad to see a good food like Wellness getting screwed up by money hungry people. Grrrrr.... that's why I switched to Innova. The quality is still awesome and they are privately owned. Woo hoo!

I transitioned my pug to Wellness, trying to get him to eat a better food than the one he was eating previously.  I could only get him to eat it by mixing in some of his raw food.  After the raw ran out he would only eat his Wellness late at night when he was probably starving.  I finally gave up and put him on Merrick.

I took 3 weeks to transition an Aussie puppy and an adult from Canidae to Wellness, based on the recommendation from other pet owners. (The puppy to Wellness for puppy and the adult to Wellness 5). Since then I have had ongoing stool problems- ranging from totally liquid and smelly stool to very soft and barely formed. I became very concerned due to the disgusting gas problem. I took the puppy to the vet, since hers was noticably worse. After a thorough exam and a course of medication (antibiotics to decrease inflamation in intestinal tract and three days of deworming medicine, just in case that was the problem- it wasn't), as well as a week of a "bland menu" (all with normal stools in the meantime), we slowly transitioned back to Wellness only to end up with diarrhea again. It cost me over $250 in vet bills! I gave up- we're going back to Canidae. Wellness may be good for some dogs, but certainly not mine.

3 days on Wellness Sr. Super Mix and I'm thinking I made a big mistake. Brand was recommended by several pet store people as one of the "best" foods out there. Needed a lower protein, higher fiber food for my Aussie. Well, 1/3 of a cup...mixed with other dry and wet food, mind you, PLUS a probiotic powder, and I've got runny stools like you wouldn't believe. Large volume, like cowpies, as someone said...from a 20lb dog. Just huge, messy and smelly. Plus dog has TERRIBLE gas. May have to give up on this...out of $20...have not even opened the canned version yet....too scary. Honestly, compared the % of fiber, protein, etc. to a walmart brand we tried and the dog loved and it was pretty darn similar...and no mess (despite less than appealing ingredients).

Dog was on "Wellness Just For Puppy" for about 2 months, not a bad food, solid poops but dog had bad skin while on this one.  Switched to "Orijen Puppy Large" and the problem went away.  Overall a just for puppy is a decent food.

I switched over to wellness fish and potato from Eukanuba vet formula. I have a 2 yr old Mastiff/Pit cross who has suffered from eczema, allergies and a deformed anal gland. The wellness has done wonders for his skin.. he is no longer breaking out in awful pus filled blisters and he has stopped scratching at his skin. He looks beautiful. I am very pleased with this product, I have a happy dog and the food costs a bit less than the vet formula.

My dog had gotten a very aggressive form of cancer, and I began researching how or what could have instigated this. Though months of research, I found that certain preservitives are carsenigenic, and thats what I was feeding my dog. I began researching other foods, with high qualiy meats, no harmful preservitives or synthetic vitamens, and a variety of fruits and vegitables, with a vast amount of antioxidents. Wellness fit the bill to the T. Its fantastic food, was never once on the recall list, and provide excellent and balanced nutrition for your dogs. Today, my dogs are all healthy, cancer free, and looking great.  They do very well on wellness lamb diet, and I feel that I'm doing them good.    Vet Tech.
