I don't think we should put a total ban on immigration, but I do feel that we need to be more careful about who we allow in the country. I think background checks on the person and things like that should be done.

Immigration is the backbone of this country and is what has kept it at the forefront of the world and created a culture entirely unique to the world. While the idea of open door immigration seems a little impractical we should not further the restrictions we have in place, maybe even consider lightening them. My father is an Irish immigrant and is now one of if not the best colon cancer doctor in the country. Furthermore, I have an Iranian friend and have grown close to the northeastern Persian(Iranian) community. Its a community of Doctors, lawyers, and engineers. Someof the most intelligent and apt people I have ever met. Never try to subject people to your own personal assumptions about their country and culture. As far as the "they take our jobs" fallacy: I would rather have a foreigner do almost anything if it was done better than an American.

I can sum up the entire history of "Western civilization" in two words..."White flight". Now there is no where to flee to. Whites must act as the Israelis do. Since there is no White homeland that is reserved exclusively for Whites the time has come to make those arrangements NOW!!! Europe is not an exclusively White place anymore, they are being flooded by third worlders as well, so is Australia. The reason people come from all over the world to enter America, even die trying, is not because America is the home of freedom, or the wealthiest country, or the land of opportunity or for any of those other clichés. The reason people come to America is because White people live here. If there were no White people in America, this country would be as prosperous as Mexico or Africa. The greatest threat facing our country's future is not a foreign invasion or financial collapse, but rather, it is simply the decline in the number of White people. Our National Security depends on maintaining the proper balance of Whites. Forget spending money on bigger bombs to protect this Great country, we need more Whites. The Israelis have no problem with this concept, they restrict Muslims and Christians from entering their country while allowing their own kind to come from all over the world to join their little racist paradise. We must learn from them, our country depends on it. Even 'blaqpower' would agree.

As a Canadian, my comment isn't so much about strictly U.S. political issues but about issues in general. Immigration is an issue in Canada, too, with many of the same opinions expressed as I read on this site. Xenophobia is ugly, no matter where it's experienced. I think that Moonshiner makes a good point about free language classes and about everyone being American (or, in my country, Canadian!) rather than hyphenated American or Canadian. People come to our countries for their own reasons, many because economic and/or political conditions in their own countries are unbearable. Once they come, I think it's wonderful if they can retain much of their original culture but, if they are going to remain here, they must decide to truly become part of their new country.

This is really not important on a U.S. politcal agenda. The border between the U.S. and Mexico does not have to be guarded with armed guards as it is now.

Of course immigration is important and I'm sure it will continue to be. What kind of a hypocrite would I be if I said we should halt immigration entirely? A pretty flagrant one since my ancestors all came from places like England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Germany. But, for the safety of ALL citizens, I think we do need to put some pretty heavy-duty checks and balances in place and re-think some of the ones already in existence. By this I mean really delve into the issue of who, what, where and why before we allow people to take up temporary OR permanent residence. It's impossible to tell exactly what someone may or may not be thinking, but we should try as hard as possible to make sure their intentions are honorable regardless of where they may originate.

I bet Noah is from some kind of K K K gang. I heard several caucasion from places like LA, San Francisco complaining that their jobs has been taking over by asian immigrants and thus they dislike immigration. But my advice to them is, work harder, stop complaining.

What's wrong with knowleadge? Immigration is in many sense education in a wider aspect. Kind of "practical knowleadge" that has become so popular in our days. I've had great joy of tasting new foods, learning new languages & getting to know new religions in my short life! I think immigration is healthy for a society, like fitness is healthy for our body. We need physical challenges, that's what life's all about! Second of all I think immigration is essential for keeping the profite in many buisnesses high & increasing the amount of employments when the economy is doing well. But the best with immigration however is that it challenge our egoism. I think it's actually increasing our moral! And it makes us think of basic sides of our lives again! Maye we aren't as perfect as we used to think? Maybe we could learn something from other cultures?

Amen, totally agree. We need to stop to understand the economical and sociological impact the current high rate of infusion is going to have on our country. Not just tomorrow but 10, 15, 20 years from now. And not just for ourselves but for those coming to our country. If they come seeking the promise of tomorrow to only find that it is no longer available, what have we done? Will what we offer in 10 years be better or worse than what they left?

Throw the borders open, make everyone in who wants to come and work welcome. The more people who come in the more jobs there are for everyone. The economy booms from the increased need for services and goods and municipalities benefit from the influx of tax dollars. The only things I would ask for in return is English as a national language, no more printing ballots and other important documents in multiple languages, free language classes for all who need them, and to have everyone called an American instead of the other politically correct designations.

We need to put a stop to immigration. Like it or not, America was founded as a Christian nation comprised of people of European descent. It should remain so for reasons of national security.

I think it's crucially important to further open our borders, in particular to let skilled and driven people in to enjoy the American Dream. Immigrants will help relieve our tight labor market problem and contribute to economic growth. Welcoming in new immigrants also will help us deal with the natural demographic shift towards having to support more and more older people on our entitlement programs.
