I know they're just people trying to make a living just like anyone else, and I totally respect that, so I try to be polite when telling them I'm not interested. It's the overly pushy and abusive types that can't take 'no' for an answer that I have a problem with. I hate hanging up on people, but if they refuse to stop talking, I feel pretty justified in ending the conversation.

This has got to be one of the worst ways to make a living.Taking a job where they have to call peoples homes knowing they are Not going to like the intrusion of someone on the line trying to sell them something.I am sure the pay can not be all that good.To be yelled at or hung up on.I know that the biggest reason I got caller ID. is so I do not have to pick up the phone when I think it is a Telemarketer. Ususally when it comes up "unknown caller" it is a dead give-a-way. I do not fault those who are trying to pay their bills. but this job has got to be one of the worst!

Aggh no no no I am not interested in buying your crappy crappy product, leave me alone! They rank as low as professional spammers. I guess they would make better test subjects than lab rats.

There are some good points and some bad points to this job. First the bad. 1. This line of work is hated by pretty much EVERYONE. 2. People will either act rube or idiotic on the line and then hang up on you. 3. You are always on the phone non stop throughout the day (There is NO OTHER aspect to the job) trying to sell someone a product whether they're interested or not (this is how you make bonus money). Now the good. 1.It's a well paying job(REALLY! IT IS!). 2.You can fix your own hours. 3. Most people that have this job (like my cuz) work only 5 hours a day (free time!). 4.If you're real good at the job, the bonuses you can earn are really awsome (a few 'yes' answers can equal to a $500 to $1,000 bonus for example.) 5. They work less hours than the regular full time worker (40hrs. weekly) and still get paid more. So, it depends on you. For me, I'd still have to pass.

Being a telemarketer must be a terrible job. You get people hanging up and cursing you out the entire time. It's very demeaning work. I personally find it very annoying when one of these people call my house at the worst times, like when I'm sitting down to dinner. No, I don't want to change my long distance plan! No, I don't want to take a survey about which cast member of "Survivor" should go! But then again, when you have to make a living, you will go to any extremes. I'm a college student and financial pressures can really be a burden sometimes; this may be one of the few jobs that we can take, although this should be a last resort.

I am fed up with telemarketers. These yahoos cannot pronounced my last name correctly. Second, I cannot study when these people are harassing me. Yeah, I know they are desperate people. But I want them to go away.

I was a telemarketer for 5 years. You wouldn't believe the things that they want you to do. I'm out of it now, but the latest thing I hear is that they try to jack up the shipping cost. Other warnings include: Raising Item Cost/ Added Warranty's that weren't requested/ Lies about products/ Fraud (3 people were arrested in the 5 years I was there).

What I would not give to be the guy in the Snickers comercial who flies to Cleaveland and punches out the telemarketer's phone after being woke up at 6:00 in the morning.

I've always thought that sales would be a difficult occupation -- and selling over the phone must be the closest thing to impossible! At the moment, I have a second part-time evening job doing phone surveys for a market research company. I know that some people find this annoying, too, so I've had some of the needlessly rude responses. At least I can honestly start a call by saying "I"m not selling anything." and many people do recognize a valid use for market research. Telemarketing would be very near the bottom of my list of choices!

Imagine someone gives a poke in the ribs. Annoying isn't it? Now immagine someone who does it repeatedly throughout the space of day. That is a telemarketer. The sole purpose of these people is to drive us insane, worst part of all is many of them probably don't have any other skills.

Ha! I don't pity the saps who get roped into this thankless job.

I can't stand telemarketers and I don't know why anyone would want that job. They are so annoying!!!
poclizard 07/09/2001
Why would anyone want a job to make others miserable.
liddlebopeep 05/14/2001
I pity anyone who has the misfortune of being a telemarketer. There has GOT to be better employment options available, even if one is desperate.

I'd work three lousy jobs to doing this for a living.Telemaketers have inspired me to get:Caller ID,an answering machince and an un-listed phone number.Perhaps a bit extreame, but I really appreciate my privacy, which I have to pay for,but hey,I really got sick of being asked 25 gillion times a day if I wanted a Visa Card.

First of all, I don't blame people for trying to make a living. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. BUT and it's a BIG BUTT - on the receiving end - this is THE single most irritating misuse of the telephone (aside from people who use cell phones as they're driving) that I can think of. They interrupt your day/evening again and again, don't have any consideration for the hour they call, it's yada yada buy this, sign up for that! GEEEEEZ! I have gone from being annoyed by them to being downright mad (and I mean insanely so). It's a form of harrassment I truely think should be outlawed.
alicat 01/04/2001
This has got to be a depressing job. Rejection after rejection. People getting mad at you, hanging up on you, and screaming at you. The only positive is that you show up, make your calls, and go home, not really much stress to go home with.
Wiggum 12/20/2000
I guess if your family is hungry and no other job is available, it's OK to take a telemarketing position until you can find something else. Under any other circumstances, I can't understand why anyone would want to harass people for eight hours a day.
