Never mind his great work WITH the Beatles. His solos kicked some serious butt:It Don't come Easy,Back off Boogaloo,Photograph,Your'e Sixteen,Oh My My,The No No Song,A Dose of Rock And Roll....I love each of these and do not know which is my favorite...also Only You was good.

Ringo may not be the greatest drummer of all time but he hits the skins harder than most. He's not known for his solos but if you listen to the Beatles tracks you will find that he is an essential part of the music and has some pretty nice licks. Examples would be Helterskeltor, Strawberry Fields and many more.

wasn't a great drummer, but was very 'appropriate'. Any more ability and he may have over played.

Songs where Ringo played rolls: 1) Nowhere Man 2) Helter Skelter (at end of track) 3) Long, Long, Long (ditto) These are at the top of my head. What Who songs did Keith Moon roll on? Charlie Watts? John Bonham? Why is there a double standard with Ringo? Frankly, none of those above mentioned drummers hold a candle to Ringo in terms of feel, style, and musicality.

The ability to drum with subtlety, solidity and feeling is a rare abilty. Ringo had that abilty, and used it to create a shuffling sound that was his own. It's also worth mentioning that none of the Beatles were technical players or readers of music. They were just hugely blessed with both musical instinct and intuition.....

Yes, he was 4th best of the Fab 4. But that's like saying he was the 4th best Horseman of the Apocalypse. He etched out greatness on his own, with his own distinctive personality, some very respectable hit records of his own, and putting on great shows with his All-Star bands.

To the people who said Ringo doesn't know how to do a drumroll: listen to Nowhere Man. He does several drumrolls on that song. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't talk.

A Great drummer and most overlooked of the all the =Beatles ,he may not have been Lennon ,Mccartney or Harrison but he was important. And should not be forgotten. They would have been the Beatles without Ringo.

He has personality, but that's about it. Have to give him an OK rating because he was the drummer on some of the greatest songs of the rock and roll era.

Ringo gets too much credit for his acting ability in the Beatle movies (he's the kind of guy who's funny just standing there doing nothing, and director Richard Lester understood this) and too little credit for his musicianship. True, he was the weakest singer in the group and has had the least successful post-Beatle career, but as a drummer he gave the band exactly what it needed, no more and no less. As Wilfrid Brambell, playing Paul's grandfather in A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, provocatively asked, "Where would they [his bandmates] be without the steady support o' your drumbeat?" Where, indeed?

I'm a drummer, and believe me, Ringo is/was a great drummer. Those who can't play don't appreciate what he did for the Beatles. Ringo had chops. He just chose to only use them occassionally and really play to the music.

What's all this stuff with Ringo being a great drummer, a drummer ahead of his time, and all that talk? When I was in grade school, every kid in my class could do all his drums on their desks. And remember, first graders can't do a drum roll. Problem? No, Ringo couldn't either. I've gone back and listened to some Beatles music, waiting for those magical drums to appear. Lucy in the sky with diamonds <drum roll> Lucy in the sky with diamonds. Wrong. Their world's greates drummer hadn't figured out how to do a drum roll yet, so the song had to live without it.

Okay, this used to be a three-star rating, but after listening to some more Beatles stuff, I changed my mind. There are teenagers in high-school punk bands who can play the drums better than this guy. The stuff on Sentimental Journey was good enough, but when I see this guy who could barely play percussion (when did you last hear him do a drumroll? huh?) being worshipped and praised all over the place while Watts, Moon, Baker, Taylor, Berry, and Mullen are given footnotes in my rock and roll book. It's sad. There were Beatles songs where Rigo really could have showed off if he wanted to, like "Back In The USSR", but he never did. His percussion sounded like footsteps. He should have served us as a comedian instead. Take care, everyone!

Less than average singer, drummer and actor, but he's one of "the Dudes." Seems like a good person.

He wasn't great, but he was an underrated drummer for The Beatles. He really has a good personality and was a good solo artist.

If he had more success as a solo artist (and didn't push wine coolers at one point) he would've gotten a 5. Still love him though :)

If a person actually listened to a Beatles song they would know that Ringo was ground breaking for his time & one of the best all time drummers. His voice, while not great, can at least hold a note.

Ringo is such a funny guy! He cracks me up!He's such a great actor. Especially in A Hard Day's Night and Help! He was NOT a lousy drummer. Apparantley, you've never heard the song Rain. Ringo plays great drums on every single Beatle song. So, you can't back that up. I give Ringo 5 stars because he was in the greatest band of all time, and he's just such an amusing guy and a great drummer. I just love him.

I don't know why, but his music makes me smile...he was (of course) better off as a Beatle, but who knew he had the ability to really SING?

Fair drummer is a lousy band. Not much of a singer, though.
