Cingular Wireless 1

I would like this to serve as a warning for potential cingular customers. For the last three years I was a cingular user, and unfortunately I had problems with them every few months, spending hours on the phone with customer service. Thus, I decided to end my contract, and since September 2004 I have no longer been a customer. Two months after ending the contract, I received a bill from cingular stating that I have to pay for usage during the month of August (this is after I already paid my August bill). After calling customer service and spending more than half and hour on the phone, they told me that I am liable for any delayed charges whenever Cingular has to rely on other companies' phone towers (since I had a national plan), and they have to pay extra. Not only had I not gone over my minute limit for the month of August, but I was charged $50 extra for it 2 months later, because Cingular claims that it received delayed charges from another carrier, which they imposed upon me. I find this completely outrageous and would like to warn any other cingular customers about this technique they use to overcharge their customers. Be careful if you have a national plan. In my opinion, you should stay away from any cingular contracts if dont intend on calling customer service every other month.

Cingular is a great service thats very reliable. It has a variety of rate plans for different people with there different styles. One of the newest rate plans is 1000 anytime nationwide minutes with roll over for 39.99. For those who don't want a bill. Prepaid has three different plans. Unlike other services that only provide one. I use the 10cents anytime which charges 10cents for every minute. And chargets 1.00 fee everyday. Cingular.com will be the source of more information.

They are the epitome of world class unreliable service!! I got a phone so my children could call their mother. However, my kids had to stand in the front yard to get any sort of signal! Ridiculous. Calls to NO-customer service were fruitless - they don't guarantee service according to their contract. This inept comany has an obligation to provide a reasonable service just as I have an obligation to pay for the service. It is completely unreasonable to expect a customer to stand in his front yard in order to use the service for TWO years. The bottom line is that they don't care at about their customers. They haven't scaled properly nor at all in response to their snappy marketing. Marketing is all their good at, it seems. I did not pay for a service I could not use or count on. They suspended service. I protested the ridiculous early termination fees and have yet to hear back from them. I have now taken my business AND dollars to Verizon and have truly found a reliable and good service - and my kids and I don't have to stand in the front yard in the rain or snow or dark to have a call. Verizon is the largest cell phone carrier. They have almost 2x the number of customers as the #2 provider (ATT), yet Verizon has the LOWEST numbers and LOWEST rate of complaints (see recent consumer reports). I see why they are best hands down. DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE before signing on to any other provider's service or contract!!!! I love my Verizon service but know that since cingular handles their own protests (the fox guarding the hen house!), they will surely deny my request and bill me for all their silly fees. Anyone up for a class action law suit?

I love my Cingular Plan. I've used well over 2000 minutes in the first month I got my phone and the month isn't even over. I persoanly am on the Nation plan. Great Coverage, Good Call Quality, Very Affordable. It's been worth my money. I got my phone from my local agent. You can also find phones and plans on cigular.com too. The website is very helpful. Coverage and reception are pretty good in my area (Orange County, CA) but their calling plans leave a lot to be desired. I'm on one of their older plans (50 anytime minutes, unlimited night/weekend) and I average less than 50 minutes a month... but their much-touted Rollover does not apply and I get hit with extra charges about every third month. This pisses me off, as they're already rounding up call to the next minute, and the meter starts running from the moment you connect to the network ... so a 55-second call show up as two minutes, and I've often been charged for extra minutes when my actual calls are well under 50 minutes! It seems to me that people who have only a small number of minutes each month are the ones who need Rollover the MOST; the guy with 10,000 minutes never goes over. So the whole Rollover thing is kind of a hoax, and I wish they'd either extend it to ALL their customers, or stop advertising it so much! I'm considering switching to another carrier, now that numbers are portable (I have cool one!) but there seem to be complaints about all of them. I may try AT&T's prepaid plan, which gives you 666 minutes for $100 (15 cents a minute) and the minutes are good for 365 days. If that works out, I'll probably dump Cingular. (I wrote them and explained my frustration with my non-rolling minutes, and they didn't even have the courtesy to reply!)

Consitant poor reception...decent customer service...would recommend only because their plans are cheaper than some others. Would not recommend for business use.

I had the unfortuante experience of having a phone break and wihout a service plan for the phone, I kept coming up against so many obstacles, that I finally gave up. So when I relented to their suggestion that I could go out and buy a phone anywhere, the store where I was buying it ( at a cost of $129.99 plus $150 in service fees, called Cingular to activae the phone, they refused unless I would agre on extending the contract by to years. For What!!!! I told that the only contract I would sign is with another provider; they did care. Kathleen Downing is supposed to be in charge of customer service, does anyone know her phone number or address ( land or e-mail) their web site provides neither. Thanks

I was promised service that was equal to the plan I had with AT&T which included 500 anytime minutes/unlimited nights and weekends/unlimited mobile to mobile. When I got my contract, the mobile to mobile was not on it. They told me they would upgrade me to the plan I originally selected and send a new contract. They didn't and my 14-day time to cancel had passed. I called monthly upon receipt of my bill to inquire about the mobile to mobile service. I was told that it was not available yet but they would charge me for it and give me a credit for 6 months then change me to a plan that did offer the service. When I bought the service, I was viewing the available plans on my computer! The 6 month period was up and my bill increased another $10 for mobile to mobile. I called to inquire as to why this was happening and was told that they had been more than generous with me and that I would have to pay extra for the service because my phone did not have the capability of free mobile to mobile (Not the plan this time, it was the phone!) As I have a family member with the plan I intended to have, I brought this to their attention and the fact that she has the same phone as me! They stated that she was being mis-billed. I viewed her contract. Same services I was to have at a lesser rate. I contacted them again and was told that I could purchase new phones for more than $100 each, change to a more expensive plan, and extend my contract. My other options included terminating the contract for $300 or continuing for the next 17 months with the same plan. The customer service rep told me to shut up while she was talking. She cut me off in mid-sentence during my initial explanation of my problem by telling me to Shut up while I tell you how it is! I am the #1 fan of the Cingular Sucks Club!

My Mom made a mistake of sending in the payment late and our service was cut off, then called them to let them know that the funds were already sent. They said fine and that they would cut the service back on. Three days later they cut it off again with another suspension fee of not the 35.00 that they had told us it would be (the first time.) Our bill came to not 35 for each time, but since we have 3 lines - 3 TIMES 35 = 105 x 2 = 210.00!!!!! I called to reason with them, BUT IT IS COMPANY POLICY NOT TO REASON EVEN THOUGH THEY MESSED UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Their customer service is horrid! I called customer service three times to change my rate plan, because I knew my usage would be going up. Each time I'd call back after receiving a two hundred dollar bill for overage in minutes, and they'd say I'd never called, however they'd see where changes were made to my record and not implemented. )#(*_)(* I moved down the street recently, now I cant even get a signal in my house. Same type of building, less than three hundred feet from the old location. Decided to cancel service, after they'd asked for $170 to upgrade my phone to one with a stronger antenna. BS It took me one visit to a local store and three phone calls to their customer service to finally get a verification my service will be cancelled on August 16th. I'm not holding my breath...their Information Systems Infrastructure either sucks by design or utter incompetance...half the staff I'd talked with doesn't even speak intelligable english.

Very nice service! I had a pre-paid phone though them before... but it was to expensive to keep buying airtime... so I got a nation 450 with rollover and 5000 night/wknd min. and wireless web and unlimited mobile to moble and a free sony ericsson phone (T226) for 45$/mo!!! thats the best cell deal around my area and theres 6 around lebanon, tn. the GSM coverage is better than CDMA around here and also I have GPRS too... the good thing about GSM is SIM cards. You can take the card out when you get a new phone and your number will move with you to your new phone. also you can use it all over the globe. hence the G in GSM .... Global System for Mobile communications. yah its not as fast as CDMA, yet... with 3GSM and EDGE you can attain up to a 128Kbps transfer rate. and with Cingular purchasing ATT wireless, you will get even bigger and better network coverage! I was approved for a phone without a deposit at all!! I had my phone in less than 10 minutes! most of that was deciding which plan to go with! It wane really well... my phone only messed up a couple times by asking me to insert my sim which came a lil loose while the phone was in my pocket. thats the only problem I had really....

Excellent GSM and TDMA service in Connecticut. Plus they don't charge .69cents a minute for going off their network like verizon does. Your basically free to roam the the whole USA free of charge. Plus Cingular will kick Verizon's ass once the merger completes.

I agree that Cingular is the WORST cell phone company to ever exist. The main problem I have with them is the fact they could care less about their customers as long as they keep getting the money. I recently had a $500 cell phone bill (long story), and, since I make about that much money in a month, I tried and tried to see if I could at least be able to make payments to pay off this ridiculous amount. Not only did Cingular not allow me to make payments, they told me that if I did not pay the money by the end of the month my phone would be shut off. (There is a $36 re-acttivation fee when you turn your phone back on, too) Any other cellular phone company would have worked with me. I guess they don't care about my long-term business. Anyways, all of you out there reading this- please please do not succumb to the torture of the evil corporate giant called Cingular.

Geez. This site requires you to give at least one star, but Cingular doesn't deserve it. I have had the worst service with Cingular! I switched from Verizon because I was feeling kind of bitter over some ongoing billing problems, but at least they grudgingly fixed the problems when they came up. Cingular seems to think it is ok to have the worst coverage and equipment in the nation and do nothing about it. I travel all over the country, and the coverage stinks almost everywhere. I live in a major metro area and it completely misses calls all of the time and then doesn't alert me that I have voice mail for days at a time. I am on my second lousy quality phone. Cingular refused to give me my money back on the first piece of junk and instead gave me a used replacement that is exactly the same. The last time I had a major voice mail problem (they happen all the time in their system) it took them three days to fix it. On one occasion when I asked to speak with a manager about the poor service, a very young man came on the phone and proceeded to tell me what a rotten person I was for wasting his time and that I was stuck with my contract. He basically told me that Cingular knows they have bad service and they don't care as long as they can still get people locked into contracts.

i believe that cingular is a good company. i have read most of the notes on this site that people have left and i believe that they are not educated about wireless service. ex.1 one person wrote in order to get a new phone they have to sign a new contract answer. well you dont have to sign a new contract. you can buy the phone at the regular price. or sign a contract for a rebated(below cost)price. alot of people think they should get things for free just because.. in the real world it just doesnt work that way. cingular is a business. and like any business small or large. you want to make money. whether you own a small gas station or a small clothing store all the way up to a walmart type store. cingular owes it to its shareholders for profitability. wanting to make money is not a crime. if it was them every single one of us would be in jail. ex.2 i an being charged for calls in my family plan which ran my bill up $1100 answer. you only get free mobile to mobile if you choose that option. just because you are on the same account does not mean calls to each other are free. and it is the same with every comany out there(verizon, sprint, t-mobile etc). you have to be more eduacated about the plans you get in. rate plans do not come one size fits all you should never ASSUME the breakdown of ASSUME = ASS+U+ME = you make an ASS of U(yourself) and MEwhen u ASSUME. if you are going to learn anything from this website.. make this your number one lesson.. NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING.. ex.3 Cingular has absolutely terrible service. Their customer service representatives are never responsibe for their words. I called four times in two days to check my account transfering status, I got totally different answer from each person. My service trsfering started from January, it still hasn't been completed as of today, March 23. 3 months of time, hundreds of calls to them, but it is still hung there! answer. if you are trying to port out... then why would you be calling cingular? you have to go to whatever carrier you want to go to and start the prot process there. you dont start it as cingular.. and if you really did call cingular you would have found that out. instead of making things up. instead of making uneduacated guesses and assuming that is what cingular would say and thenwriting about it.. you should state the facts...

Cingular is nothing but shoddy buisness practice. Once, when at one of their stores, I changed to a larger plan and initiated a text-message plan, and the salesperson said that he couldn't give me a reciept. Consequently, the larger plan didn't go into effect, my bill was $300, and there was nothing I could do about it! I never have reliable reception, my phone malfunctions all the time (they tell me I have to renew my contract in order to get a new phone), and I've never encountered such dilenquents as when I tried to get something from their 1-800 number. I HATE CINGULAR!

I would never trust Cingular again. Paid $127 for a prepaid plan that came with 300 free minutes and a chintzy Motorola phone that didn't work when trying to call my mother only one mile away; nor could the phone be left on for incoming because it required recharging every few hours. The 300 free minutes simply vanished after about a week or so although I only used perhaps 10 of them. Rip off. Lost more minutes when I purchased additional prepaid cards.

I had Cingular for two years,Every time i needed something fixed on my phone, I took it to my local Cingula store. The lady there always put used parts out of another phone to try and fix mine, what kind of S**t is that ? She never would just trade me for a new phone (same model) I was sick of it. Finally after 3 hours on the phone with the dip S**ts at Cingular, I was awarded a new phone. Well, three days later I was tired of not getting any reception. So I called and canceled my Cingular service. The Customer Service lady told me i had to pay off my bill, I told her that was fine and how much was it. She told me $185.28. With in an hour, i went back to the local Cingular place and paid them $185.28. Everything was fine, for 6 months. 6 months later i get a bill in the mail from Cingular for $107.32. I was like Hell Naw. So i got on the horn ASAP and talked with some lady and she told me that that was my FINAL BILL I told her i had already paid the $185.28, she agreed that i did, but still owed them this $107.32. After bit**ing at a manager for two hours, I told them what they could do with there phone service and $107.32. Till this day(05/25/04) I haven't paid them sh*t. They sent me to several collection people, but they just got an ear full everytime they called me. They quit calling after about three months. So as far as I see, Cingular can ram their customer service and everything else right up their A## !!!

Cingular has the rudest personnel I have ever seen in any company. If you go by their office here, half of their employees will be doing nothing and you will be told to take a number and wait. Their coverage seems to have deteriorated in the last couple of years. The 60 mile stretch of Interstate 20/59 from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham, Alabama is one of the most heavily traveled routes in the country (far in excess of 100,000 vehicles per day) yet there are glaring gaps in reception. We're going to go with another carrier.

I have only had Cingular Wirless service for two days and I'm already switching back. I was previously with another carrier and disatisfied with their horrendous customer service. I thought Cingular was a sure bet. I was wrong. They claim that the area where I live (Northern Washington State) got full coverage. To my dissapointment, I cannot place calls or receive calls in most of the town where I live. The calls drop and the reception goes ini and out. I can't get more than 2 bars of signal. With my previous carrier, I got full dovereage in the area where I live. Their customer service is okay. I don't necessarily like Sprint, but in Washington State, they blow Cingular Wireless out of the water in terms of coverage.

Let me preface this by saying that it has been over 6 months since I left the Cingular Network, and at that time they were talking about overhauling their network, so I have to allow that it plausible their coverage may have improved. During the year and a half I used themm though, I had an absolutely terrible time getting a signal. There were times I would be in a wide open area, and I would still have to find a hill and climb to the time of it just to get ONE BAR of signal, when everyone around me was milling about chat chatting away without a care in the world. I would maybe concede it could have been my phone, if it weren't for my fellow Cingular users with different phones having the same problem. For $39.95/mo I got 250 anytime minutes and unlimited nights/weekends on a regional plan (for the same price w/Verizon I am getting 400 anytime minutes and 3000 nights/weekends on the america's choice - which is basically national - plan), and I was supposed to be notified whenever I was in a roaming area, but never was. The only good thing I have to say for Cingular is that after my year was up and I went month to month, they did let me terminate w/o any hassle. :-)

Dirt cheap rate plans, affordable phones, and tons of features.. but on the negative side.. Customer service is one of worst (with the average wait time of 40 mins of more), poor reception, a lot of busy signals. If you call customer service about their service problem they insist that it's the equipment you have.. and they want you to spend money on other expensive equipment thats not necessary. They have very poor indoor coverage.. and these days they want you to sign a 2 year contract agreement... On UC Irvine campus, you'd be lucky if a call go's through during the daytime. If you do get a call, getting cut off is common and you'll have heck of a time trying to dial back out to your party... This is part of the SBC family and customer service is just non existant with this company (Poor Customer service with SBC Landline-Billing Errors). For Orange County, Verizon is a better bet..

I had a representative in Oklahoma fix the problem with my phone tonight. I wish I would have written her name down. I think it was Alison Baker. Not Alison, but two previous representatives sent me New York City to have a technician look at my phone when no technicians that fix cell phones are in New York City. I have an older phone that is different from the phones in New York. Needless to say I spent my whole day off on a wild goose chase. I was not to happy when I called in to try and get further assistance. I know the representative's name I spoke with had the first name of Alison. I specifically asked for her name again before we hung up but I can no find the piece of paper I wrote it on. The reason is because she fixed my phone and I wanted to let everyone know at Cingular Wireless how greatful I am to her. I had requested to speak with her supervisor to tell them how smart she is but she told me "that was not necessary, that she was only doing her job." I think it is necessary to let everyone at Cingular know that at least one representative that handles NJ calls from Cingular customers knows how to fix phones when they are not working. She also told me that I can upgrade my phone which no representative had previously bothered to do. She told me I have been eligible to get an upgraded phone and I've been able to do so since 1995 when my last contract expired. I'm really a creature of habit and I'm not sure if I'll like the newer phones. Analog phones are bigger but I've noticed they have more battery strength. She told me the Nokia 6340I would be the best one to get for my area. I looked at the phone on www.cingular.com and it lookes ok. I suppose I'll upgrade. I've been a customer since 1986 before Cingular was called Cingular. My family that lives in England continually make fun of my phone when they visit me in America. They think my phone is ancient and most cell phones in America are primitive compared to European technology that exists for cell phones. I suppose I should get of the stone age and upgrade my cell phone. I've been with Cingular long enough to know that when I call in to customer service I won't get in touch with the same person I spoke with. I wish I could speak with Alison again so that she could order my phone. I would like this so that if any commission involved with the upgrade of my phone she would receive it since she is the only one who bothered to tell me since I've been calling in over the past 8 years for help on various issues, that I could upgrade my phone. I hope this does not upset Alison that I proceeded with giving her praise on this website. I didn't know of another way to achieve what I had to say or request future contact with her so she would receive the just rewards when I upgrade my phone. I'm thankful to Alison because 1. She fixed my phone 2. I had called in nine times before I spoke with Alison and nothing was achieved. I ended up more frustrasted than when I had called in 3. She had the basic consideration to let me know I could get a new phone and was the only one who noticed that I had been a customer since 1986. Before I spoke with Alison I always received the impression that because I'm English and the English tend more polite on average than upset Americans no one took me seriously when I had called in 9 time previously when I was upset and needed technical assistance. I didn't get that impresion from Alison. I'm used to being treated bad and spoken to rudely. It surprised me and made me happy when Alison treated me with the respect I believe I deserve since I have been a loyal customer for so long. I sure hope you can find out what her last name is for sure and let the important people at Cingular know how good she is. If you find her last name would you please have her call me so I can upgrade my phone. I'm leary about putting my home or cell phone number right here on this comment section for everyone to see. I input my personal information in the registration site at www.rateitall.com. My home phone number is included. Please call me if further information is required or your unable to locate Alison. I'm going to find the paper her name is wriiten on in case no one is able to locate her.I've never given a customer compliment to any Cingular representative before during my tenure as a customer. Honestly, Alison deserves it. I was under the assumption that the previous male representatives I spoke with would be able to fix my phone. They couldn't do it. I think it's absolutely delicous Alison was able to. To rateitall.com: I received a message that a confirmation email will be sent to EnglishRose@23.box.uk. It stated I need to reply to it before 7/10/03 otherwise my registration will be erased. I haven't received anything yet. When will it be sent?

Cingular has absolutely terrible service in Florida. In three weeks I didn't have one phone conversation that either didn't drop words or drop the call in progress. Calling their call center was an exercise in frustration, they put you on hold and hold and hold. When I tried to cancel my service contract because their horrible service they billed me for the entire year and when I refused to pay, since I no longer used the service, they turned loose the collection agency on me. They are a bunch of Nazis! Do business with Cingular at your financial peril!

This is the worst company I have ever had to deal with. The customer service center is horrible. I spent 5 hours in ONE WEEK on the phone with these people and my bill is still not right. Save your self a headache and stay away!

Cingular...what can I say? NOTHING! Rotten coverage. Static, in and out, horrendous. I dont work for any other company-like verizon, etc. This is from my experience. I changed 3 diff. phones to make sure it was the service not the phones that were giving me the coverage. At least 1/2 the time," network not available"-not always in the same location either, no service, or complete static. This was the absolute worst expeience ever! I complained for 6 months and finally got released from my contract without a $150 termination fee (imagine getting cable 12 the time and still having to pay for a full bill!?!) only if I returned my $200 phone to them! I would rather talk on string cans than ever give this rotten evil empire another dime. Their customer service line is horrible as well-long wait times, hangups and over 25 minutes to get a supervisor! GO ELSEWHERE-SHOW THEM CUSTOMER SERVICE STILL COUNTS-NOT JUST MINUTES. What good are minutes anyways if ya can't use them!

It took Cingular the entire life of my one year contract to finally get my bill right. Every month I had to waste an hour of my life on hold waiting for another incompetent customer service rep who never fixed my problem. Stay away from these people.

Cingular wireless in the So Cal. Area is horrible. Feature changes are not announced, coverage map is horrible and actual coverage is worse. Policys like "No garenteed Coverage in any building" are key in cingular's grasp on their customers. Not to mention the FCC is investigating several problems with their service in Sacromento. ANY! Cell provider is better than them

When they were Cellular One these guys were great. I was with them for 8 years without a problem. When they became Cingular, it only took them 3 months to aggravate me so bad I switched. Horrible coverage and worse customer service. They actually had the gall to tell me that their networks were too busy to provide each phone a stong signal and that individual subscribers call's were "unimportant". I think not.
