My experience with C was very brief and basically lasted the same amount of time it took to learn the contents of Sam's Learn C in 24 hours book. It seemed a nice language and set me up pretty well for several years later when I learnt C++ but at the time I had no real need for the language so soon ditched it.If you interested in learning a C style language then depending on your intent C++ or Cocoa may be better. If you want to do ASP.NET based development, then obviously your choice should be C#.NET but it's not worth wasting your time with C these days. Some people don't rate C++ any more but it's still a good language and it's ability to create OpenGL across different platforms is a really great ability.

C was good for its time, but it's showing its age (close to 40 years!). The syntax is simple, but to overcome the language's limitations and use it semi-productively requires a lot of experience. Furthermore, its lack of support for generic programming results in a large tradeoff between productivity and stability & performance.

If you don't know or don't need any Object-Oriented code C is still a great programming language. Faster and less bloated than it's younger brother it can still be used for many of the same tasks, albeit in more difficult implementation.
