I have had the worst customer experience with Home Depot. I bought some patio furniture from them and had it delivered. I was called two days after I purchased it and told they had to order part of my furniture because they didn't have it in stock. That was fine. It was only supposed to take a week and they would call me when it was in. They never called. I ended up calling them and being told we were now waiting on another piece of furniture that had been there when i ordered it, but apparently was sold while we were waiting for the other items. I was told all of this with absolutely no caring for my inconvienence whatsoever. Too bad for me, I would just have to deal. And I did. They took three weeks to deliver it and then didn't have all my items. No one from the store ever called me to tell me what was going on with my furniture. (Though this seems to be a common problem with them.) I ended having to call them every time I wanted to know. Then what they delivered was damaged. So we had to have them deliver another one. Then they gave me one delivery time, that didn't happen, but no one ever called to tell me it was going to be delivered late. And here I am almost a month later and I still don't have all of my order. However, the one thing that drives me most crazy is that no one in the corporation - either in that store or at corporate office - seems to care one bit. I suppose to them I am only one customer after all. So I'm on here to shout loud and clear - Do Not Buy Anything From This Company!!

My husband and I used to frequently shop at The Home Depot because we love to dream and because we are new home owners. So last year when we needed a new patio door we went to Home Depot to order one. It took a very long time to find someone that could help us in that area but we finally did talk to someone and they scheduled an appointment for someone to come out to measure the door and do the installation. Weeks went by. I stopped in to talk to someone about the measurements on a Sunday (my only day off from work) but there wasn't anyone in that area that could help unless I came in Monday - Friday between 8 and 5 (that's when I work too). So I called during a lunch hour. I was told that someone had already done the measurements and that the door could be ordered if I gave them my credit card (my order had been saved in their computer). I thought that was odd since no one had called and that I have 6 outside doors - how did they know which one to measure. I was told they measured all of them. Okay, so I gave them my card and waited for the door to come in. Weeks went by....I called again, my door wasn't in. Months went by - still no call from Home Depot. I finally had a day off during the week. It was October by then and we started this process in August! So I went in and talked to them about my door. The installation company was there and I spoke to the manager of that company too. My door was in (no one had called me - they were surprised but by this point I was not) and they could install it that week. So I took another day off from work to be there on installation day. They took my old door out, they unpacked my new door (now I'm freaking out) that is not the door I ordered!!!! NOT EVEN CLOSE (well, they were both white but that was it!). And it's October in NH so I couldn't not have them install the new door since my old one was in pieces....Another trip to the store that night to talk to the manager. That went well - NOT! He basically told me that it was my fault for ordering the door over the phone. I finally got across to him that I didn't ORDER it over the phone, I just PAID for it over the phone. When we went to the computer to look at my order - fancy that- my correct door was the one in the computer so who knows where this door was supposed to go. So they reordered the door and would have it installed at no extra charge - like that was supposed to be a big deal - damn right they wouldn't charge me for fixing their mistake! A few weeks later they called to tell me my door was in (wow it only took 3 weeks??? why did it take 3 months last time???). This time my husband took a day off (because by now I can't deal with these people) the door is still not right! My husband calls to explain the issue and it's "close enough" because at this point I do not want to deal with them anymore (it is a 10 light door instead of a 15 light door). So we now have a new door - a week later Home Depot called to tell me my door was in .... hmmm do I need another door anywhere? I bet that one was the right door. I only go there now if there is no other choice - Lowes is MUCH MUCH better and so are some of our local businesses. I will NEVER EVER have them install or do a custom order for me again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Four weeks ago I purchased a bathroom mirror cabinet from Home Depot. Since they didn't have the item I wanted in stock, they ordered from another store that had several on stock. Home Depot told me it would be sent out right away and I would have it within a week. I am still waiting. I have called them on several occasions, only to hear excuses as to why my paid for item is not in yet. I even called and talked to a manager who assured me it would be in by this past Monday. It is Wednesday, I just talked to an associate and she told me it could possibly be in tonight or maybe on Friday. This will be my last shopping experience with Home Depot. I am tired of their lousy service. If you have somewhere else to buy your home improvement item - do it. Home Depot is not worth your time or money.

In July 2006, I placed an order from homedepot.com, for three (3) Brushed Bronze Exterior (Keyed) Orbit Doorknobs. At the same time and in the same shopping cart, I ordered seven (7) Brushed Bronze Bed & Bath Orbit Doorknobs. I received these doorknobs and found the exterior knobs to be damaged. Because I wished to have my knobs match, I returned all eleven (11) doorknobs. Unknown to me at the time, because I had not received my credit card statement, homedepot.com treated this as two separate orders. I apparently returned all (11) doorknobs on the (3) exterior doorknobs return-order form. Therefore, the following month, I received a credit on my credit card for the (3) exterior doorknobs. But, as of this date I have not received a credit for the remaining (7) interior doorknobs. I have been in contact with homedepot.com customer service and supervisors on several occasions to no avail. After the last conversation, the supervisor told me he would contact the warehouse to get the problem straightened out. I then received a UPS return label to return these doorknobs. These guys can't get it straight, here it is March 2007, with no contacht from Home Depot. I even sent a letter to the warehouse stating my problem (with the return label for the doorknobs). I'll never use Home Depot Again!

I ordered a wine cooler which came with a defect as well as damaged. Then i ordered another one- which came damaged too. i had to put out cash again as they don't do exchanges, even if they messed up. Now i have two huge boxes in my living room because it takes them two weeks to issue a return! And I am out twice the $! I got to talk to many agents (too many) , was hung up on, left on hold endlessly, and each agent said something different. Unbelievably poor quality & service. DON'T EVER BUY FROM THEM!!!

it's not as bad as people have said. I wasn't scared away by those negative reviews anyway. bought a 65LB outdoor bench from Homedepot.com and it came in a week via UPS. The shipping is hefty: $100. But the overall price is good: $300+ for teak wood, oh, and it's made by westminster, the best outdoor furniture company. :)

I have found that most of the large home improvement centers; Home Depot, Lowes, Orchards, etc are really lacking in product knowledge. For the most part the problem lies in the hired help. Most of the help are just people that are happy to have found a job (can't fault them for that) but, with few exceptions, can't seem to give you the specific help you might need, as opposed to the old hardware stores that once dotted the cities everywhere. Most of the people that worked there, as well as the owners, were "Jacks of all trades" and could walk you through any problem you might be having at home. A dying breed.

Home Depot can't cut lumber in Manhattan, so I called the Brooklyn stores to check if they would. After half an hour on the phone trying to reach somebody I decided to go to 500 Hamilton in Brooklyn. There cutting machine was broken, and they were not very nice. I asked customer service to call the one in Dekalb, and there machine was down too. Wasted three hours in this affair, would definitely not recommend Home Depot in Brooklyn. The Manhattan stores usually offer pleasant business though, too bad they don't provide cutting services.

My kitchen remodeling project consisted of replacing my laminate counter tops with Silestone and having my kitchen cabinets refaced. I would have liked to upload a photo of my completed home kitchen improvement project but, after 2 full weeks it still is not yet complete. What started as a 5 day project (1 day for the counter-top, 4 days for the cabinet refacing), is now starting its' third week. First, the edges and bevel cut on the Silestone counters that were installed on Feb. 5 were not polished. The edge and bevel of the counter top were full of milling marks and could have used at minimum an additional 3 or 4 passes thru the polisher. So the good folks at Silestone polished them onsite. Now the counter edges are polished but they have this wavy, uneven look to them. Yep, that's what I paid good money for, wavy counter edges. I am still waiting for the counter top to be fixed correctly. Best part of all is I am currently accruing interest on the charges for the wavey-edged counter top on my Home Depot credit card. This makes me absolutely giddy! The cabinet refacing portion of the project? Funny you should ask. I ordered the Harvest stain on oak (a pleasant golden oak) doors and drawer fronts. On Monday Feb. 12, all my existing cabinet doors and drawers were removed by the contractor, I came home Tuesday Feb. 13 anxious to see the new color and the refacing materials put in place were some reddish-pink stain on oak. What happened to my nice harvest gold I ordered? Ooops, they showed me samples from one cabinet supplier and ordered all my cabinets from another supplier. There's that giddy feeling again... Well, here I am, into week 2 of living out of boxes and paper bags, waiting for my cabinet reorder to be processed so that I can once again have full use of my kitchen. They're guessing at this point it will be at least another week before my reorder is processed. Overall, my experience with my kitchen remodeling project has been one I would not care to ever repeat nor wish upon anyone. When it is time to remodel my bathrooms and replace all my flooring later this year, who am I gonna call? Hmmmm....

We have been sorely disappointed using Home Depot (HD) to do our home remodeling. First we had the carpets replaced. The subcontracted individuals for measuring, carpet manufacturing, and layout were from three different companies who are supposed to communicate through HD. The install was so badly botched we made them come out and fix it. The kitchen cabinets were an equally bad fiasco. We have cabinets which were special ordered and we now have three missing doors (weren't shipped or shipped wrong product), and a completely missing cabinet because they failed to measure correctly (again). The bathroom cabinets were so badly measured that the drawers can't open (once again a subcontractor was different from the manufacturing company). We special ordered sinks from them and found out later that they were sitting in the warehouse and no one called us about them. We ordered a refrigerator from them and the delivery guys dented it, complained when we wouldn't sign the acceptance form, and haven't done anything to remedy the problem. The dishwasher was ordered and was to be delivered after a certain time (we were assured that it would be after that time). The delivery people showed up BEFORE that time when no one was home. They supposedly left a message with a call-back number. They left a message, but no call-back number. They claim they tried three more times that afternoon (when we were home) to deliver the dishwasher. Obviously that was a blatant lie to cover their bases. We were then called and chastised by someone from HD for not being around. The short of it is, in an effort to save money, HD subcontracts with the cheapest people they can find. The subcontracting is so abstracted that individuals often don't know what others are doing or what they are supposed to be doing. The result is you get a lot of poor workmanship, bad customer service, and a lot of upset customers. I would not recommend HD for any project except for ones in which you know they have the parts for and you will be doing it yourself or subcontracting yourself. Do NOT get roped into their home remodeling services. The people (from store workers up to management) are not experts (or expert enough) to handle much beyond selling what you can see in their stores.

POOR Service, Most Employees don't have any knoledge of the products they sell such as a Employee asked me if the table saws they sell well cut on a 45 angle. also they don't sell simple parts as sanding pads for the orbital sanders they sell,I have waited as much as twenty minutes to get help with a question about a product, One of the older gentleman Employees tried to help me but said he can't get home depot to order the tool parts his customers ask for all the time, We being the people in Roswell NM. are very disappointed in home depot Many of us are going back to out little lumber hardware stores where we can get the knoledge and help we need, HOME DEPOT a Very POOR Store,,,,,,,

Home Depot/GE service is deplorable!! I ordered a refrigerator through Home Depot. Their customer services department told me over the phone it would be delivered the 9th of December. They sent me an e-mail with the confirmation of delivery date as well. I spent my Saturday at home waiting for my refrigerator to arrive. After 4pm I called the customer service number, which I only got robo-help through. I had to call the employee number and then finally talk to an individual. They told me the delivery date was on a Wednesday later this week. I am glad I only wasted the daylight hours waiting for a fridge that would not come. Nevermind the hours it took to empty the fridge and then refill the same old one again. I guess you do get what you pay for.

Where do I start with what a rip off HD is? Zero stars aren't available. I went to HD and asked about refreshing my kitchen cabinets. I don't have a large kitchen. I was told the cost ($10-12K) was more than replacing. I told them I only wanted a refresh as I would be selling in about 4 years and had a budget around $25K including new appliances. I gave them measurements and they came back with a cost about $8000 for new cabinets. When we came in to get a total bid, including new counter tops everything seemed to change. The cabinets were now $17K as the saleswoman said she was giving me a top of the line bid and we could go down from there. This bid was for solid wood shelving, roll out shelving and self closing drawers. She then went on to say we would need to update to current code for lighting and replace all the current lighting. Total cost for this "refresh" was now $57K with out new appliances. Needless to say I was absolutely fuming. I told the woman perhaps she didn't hear me when I first told her we didn't want to spend a fortune. She then became condescending and questioned why we wouldn't want to the amount quoted on our kitchen. Then she tried play like she was doinf us a favor and would help reduce the cabinet costs by using lower grade for shelving and drawers. She said we could save about $3k this way. We ended up going through a local private vendor. The same style cabinets originally quoted $17K came in at $11K. All totaled we not only got a new kitchen and appliances but also redid our downstairs bathroom for $30K. One more piece of info on HD pricing. Yesterday I was at someone's house who recently remodeled their kitchen. Ironically they purchased the same style cabinets I did but in a different color. This kitchen was easily 2 times the size of my kitchen and had a center island with cabinets underneath the island. This person only purchased the cabinets from HD and had somebody else do the install. The cost of their cabinets was $14K. Obviously the pricing on products varies from store to store. I haven't called HD's customer service line to complain because I've heard that's a waste of time. The service reps don't care and complaints end with the phone call. Based on the other comments I've read, when will HD wake up and make some changes? Sign me an ex HD shopper.

The worst thing about Home Depot is when you have a VALID question/issue but have to wait and wait because some idiot customer has one or more associates tied up with some stupid, mundane question about a product that no reasonable person should need assistance with. These customers don't even wait until they're in the store before they grab ahold of some poor unsuspecting associate to do their personal shopping for the entire evening. Some of these customers don't even want to buy anything. They're just at Home Depot as some kind of pathetic social outing, and just want to talk to someone (poor unsuspecting associate) who can't tell them where to #@$%&'n go without losing their job. There would be plenty of associates to go around if half of these customers could actually read the packaging for themselves, or figure out that plumbing stuff is in the plumbing department, and that 2X4s are probably stacked with the rest of the lumber. There are maps of the store afterall. I'm sure there are two sides to all the stories told here, as most of them sound like nothing more than a bunch of childish banter. If you're going to leave a review/comment, at least make it useful by telling the whole storey, and not just "ma nem's Skeeter and Home Depot 3uxx, hyuck hyuck DUH!!" Incase you haven't figured it out yet, I work at Home Depot. It is my experience that customers lie and cheat to get what they want. They will come in and tell you they called yesturday or came in yesturday and that someone told them this, and someone said that, while all the while I am the person they talked to, and I did not tell them that. People come in and expect the associate do complete their project for them. People will stand infront of five simmilar items, all priced, and ask which one is the cheapest. They will ask what the warranty is all the while, it's printed big and bold all over the packaging they're holding. Men will send their wives in, with 5 screaming children, to get 'something' "I don't know what it's called, what it looks like, or what it does. Can you help me find it?" People will come in with some 25 year old CRAFTSMAN (DUH! SEARS!!) tool and ask if we have parts for it, and then get angry because we don't, and can't order it. People will walk all the way from one end of the store (lumber) to find someone in outside garden to find out if we have 2X4s, and what thickness gypsum board is best used as a TV tray. http://www.comics.com/comics/herman/archive/images/ herman2006113327124.jpg B Believe it or not, but there are people who can have three or four associates from 5 different departments looking for the 1 of something (we show in the computer) for an hour even though they were probably told eight times already that it doesn't exist, that the computer is wrong, and that it was likely stolen. I can honestly say without a doubt that at least 75% of my customers have been described here. They're 100% helpless and clueless and I can't believe they even found the store, let alone made it there without killing themselves or someone else. But no, these people don't cause their own problems in life, it's always someone else's fault. As long as there's someone to blame things on, they will. Ignorant, and selfish. The other 25% of customers in my store come in, find what they need, know how it works, what the warranty is, what else is in the package, knows which one is cheaper, and goes on their merry way...and never leave a positive comment.

This store is supposed to be the largest, and it has the worse service. According to them their sales people are trained in the area they work in, but they can't never answer a question right. You might as well train yourself before you go to home depot. They have the worse customer service I've experience. I rather go to Lowes

Stay away from the stores and the stock, you will not regret it.

DO NOT USE HOMEDEPOT.COM if you are purchasing a new appliance. Go to a legit store that will honor your purchase. I bought a GE freezer. It took 4 days to deliver. I knew within the first couple of hours it was defective. I called HomeDepot.com and they said "DON'T CALL US -- CALL GE" Evidentially they only allow you to order, then they take the money and run. They are no longer responsible for the item once it has been delivered. Then GE made me wait and additional 48 hrs before they would do anything. So I called back again to them 48 hrs later and said the unit was still defective. So they set up a service call as my word was not trustworthy to these corrupt people. Waited another 6 days for a service repairman to confirm the freezers compressor and drier were defective and I needed new parts installed. I paid over $800 and expected a good NON-DEFECTIVE unit -- but GE will only pawn off their defective units onto the consumer, then make you sit around without a working appliance forever until they can fix it. So I am still waiting for a service man to fix this piece of non-working inferior box of metal. I will have to wait another 11 days for yet someone else to repair a brand new unit. I should never have let them take away my old freezer. It worked 100 times better than this pile of trash they sold me for $800. STAY AWAY FROM HOMEDEPOT.COM AND GE APPLIANCES!!!! NEITHER COMPANY WILL HONOR THEIR MERCHANDISE THEY SELL YOU.

Home Depot is the worst company to deal with in the world!!!! I am having to have doors replaced in my home due to water damage and my builder uses Home Depot for all warranty issues. Home Depot has managed to screw up the doors twice. First, they ordered the wrong size. Then, they delivered someone else's door to my home. The installers they use are the most unprofessional companies on the planet!!!! I have had the installer that my Home Depot uses cancel on me twice. Keep in mind, I have huge holes in my walls. The installers name is the Michael White company in Las Vegas, Nevada. Do not under any circumstance use this installer for your doors. You will be so sorry if you do. Again, that is the TKC Michael White company.

Can I choose less than zero? I worked for HD for 5 yrs, Pro Desk, Special Services, Millworks, HR. I am a contractor (25+ yrs) and have a BA in business and human resource management. The "Nard" took over in 2002 and HD ceased to exist as THE pride in the workplace employer, why? Quite simply, corporate inverted the structure that built this incredible company so strong and so fast. Imagine a triangle with the point down and the point being upper management supporting individual store teams fine tuning to their particular market. Who knows their market best but the local crew? (Small example: Our local HD is constantly out of T-111 because the ordering system or orderer is dictated to from Atlanta). The 2000+ stores now support the "Nard" and his $20 million+ salary. No one cares in the stores because their voice not only doesn't matter, but if waves are made they are "gunned" for by management termination tools like the points system which is followed differently in every store. Talk about a lawsuit. The turnover rate is high (70% to 90% in some stores) The new hires are brought in at a higher rate than the existing "knowledgable" associates and the increase rate does not keep pace with that. It is easier to increase your pay by quiting and getting rehired than to beg the managers for a raise (4% is the max that only one or two in the whole store will see the rest get 2 or 3 % at best once a year!) The customer service is lousey because there probably is no training going on in the stores anymore and the last few years there was training there was probably an awful lot of pencil whipping going on. New hires are placed by HR mgrs that haven't got a clue about the business, they just have experience doing benefits or risk management for some insurance company for more than 4 or 5 yrs so the new hires get placed where the most need is not where they have an interest or knowledge. The politics in retail have always been bad (ie: your in with the SM so you can do no wrong) however the politics at HD extend all the way to district and regional levels. What is my point? Don't expect the "we can help" at a HD, although there are exceptions, and don't expect corporate to back peddle on all that they have lost in the past three years because the company is so cash rich that it will be years after "Nardi" is gone before any problems show up on the financials or until Lowes matches the $70 billion in sales that HD enjoys. I was one deemed not worthy even though the stores metrics would say otherwise and anyone of my hires or coworkers would say I did the best the store has seen. Disgruntled? Yes. Frustrated? Yes. Would I work for HD again? No, because the entrapranual spirit is gone and that's what builds the customer service attitudes in associates (that word no longer applies either). It's bad enough that I have to shop there until we get a Lowes Store, but then I do know what I am looking for, how to install it, where it is in the store and who to call when they really screw up.
Silver Eagle 252 04/01/2006
If you know exactly what you want and you know where it is in the store, Home Depot is ok as far as the big box wherehouse stores go. Getting someone to mix paint for you on a Saturday can be like a trying to win the lottery. Very poor customer service. Don't recommend you have anything installed or remodeled by Home Depot - way overpriced and no pride in the workmanship.
Former HD Customer 03/27/2006
Without a doubt HD has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I bought carpet from them. It took six months to get the job done and then it was a lousy installation. They had to order the carpets three times because they measured wrong the first two times. Once the carpets were finally installed the quality was poor. I could not get them to make good on the job. Went all the way up the ladder -- department manager, store manager, regeional manager, corporate headquarters, etc. Finally gave up. I will NEVER set foot in a Home Depot again. Give me Lowes and the local HW stores anyday.

My father is a contractor and he was trying to install a kitchen. He wanted to purchase some granite countertop and was informed that they would only sell it to him if they could install it. So he asked how heavy the stone would be and how thick it would be and they became paranoid that he was going to take their information and use it to purchase it somewhere else and install it himself. He wanted the information for the engineer and architect. Finally they told him it "depends." They wouldn't even give him a range. Subsequently, my father refers to them as Home Despot.
iggysue 03/22/2006
BEWARE of Home Depot! I guess it's OK if you just want to buy a hammer or something, but I would NEVER recommend using their installation services. They do NOT supervise the contractors, and will not live up to the terms of their own contacts. What the ? I contracted with HD for a master bath remodel and to replace the old doors throughout my house. That was in July. Here we are, nine months later, and this little job is still not finished. They sure took my $30K up front though. I'm out the money, and every time somebody does show up to try to fix one of the problems, things seem to get work. One Example: Replacing the back door. A standard 80" door - replace it with a higher quality solid core panel door. Easy, right? Not for Home Depot. They installed the first door, but then my standard 80" storm door couldn't be re-hung because the opening was now 78" (adjusted to fit the new door, which came too small). To compensate, they ordered me a new 78" storm door. Well, that came, but by that time the new wood door had failed because they did not properly seal it. Laminate warping and peeling - no warranty claim because HD failed to properly seal the door. They agreed to replace it. They ordered the replacement, then came and installed it. And left thinking they were through. When I got home and looked at it, there was now a 1" gap on the exterior of my house, between the door frame and my siding, which was now exposed. Also, there is now a 2" high threshold - I noticed this right off because I tripped walking thru the door. Yes, you are correct - the replacement door came shorter still. To make it work, they lowered the frame and installed a 2" threshold instead of sending the door back and ordering a new one. And they seem to think I should accept it. This is just one issue - I won't go into the missed appointments, the no-shows for days on end, the mis-ordered materials, the parts of the order that I finally cancelled becasue they couldn't get the order right, no permits pulled until I stopped the job. Home Depot does not supervise their subs, and they don't care. Repeat business is apparently not important. I hope if you are reading this, it is because you are considering using HD - not because you have already been burned. HD is forcing me to take them to court to sort this out - they are hoping I just go away. This seems to be their strategy and, sadly, a lot of people probably do just go away. Not me.

Worse than terrible! Ordered an item online. Item never showed up. No online order status check. Wrote back and acquired status. Was told 30-45 days back log. Waited another 2 months. Wrote back for update. CR replied that HD no longer carried the item and would refunded the money (has not seem it yet!).

BUYER BEWARE of Home Depot online advertising, customer service, honesty and reliability. The reason for this rating is my experience (first and last!!) with Home Depot online services. On 02/04/06 I wanted to purchase an item for my daughter's birthday present. The ad read delivered in 5-7 days. That seemed quite fast and I was prepared to wait up to 14 days for delivery. After payment confirmation on 02/04/06 and sent an e-mail to Home Depot on 02/10/06 asking to confirm status of item purchased. After the auto reply of confirmation of receiving my e-mail, I did not get an other replies. On 02/14/06 I tried to call Home Depot online service. I was on hold 26 minutes, then later 23 minutes and then I called corporate (where they have someone try to calm you down by saying, "Sorry for your inconvenience"). My reaction was, get someone who knows how to manage and hire the workers required to do the job. Anyway, by now you can tell I am very frustrated. The Home Depot drama continues and gets worse! I finally got through while corporate was on hold with me for 16 minutes. Lucy, the online rep answered and she listened to my desire to cancel my order completely. She put me on hold and came back telling me the order had been cancelled. I asked for a confirmation number of the cancellation. She said,"Your order number is your confirmation number." I have done enough business to know this sounded fishy. Well trying to believe the best in ol' Lucy and trying to re-establish my faith in Home Depot and thought, we are all human and mistakes happen. Man, this was a waste of thinking time when dealing with Home Depot.I even took the time to explain the situation to the online supervisor (James) about being undersatffed. He said he appreciated my comments and this was the only way Home Depot would hire more help was by having feedback like mine. I felt I had finally got my frustration and message across. The next day I received an e-mail from Home Depot confirming my order was being picked up to be shipped. I was mad and felt lied to by Lucy by this time. I don't like being lied to!! On 02/16/06 I fired off two more very pointed e-mails explaning all that had transpired with this transaction. As my frustration turned to anger, I cut and pasted all e-mails regarding this item so there could not be an excuse of lack of communication. On 02/17/06 I got an e-mail confirming shipping with a tracking number. I was boiling by now. Again I called Home Depot online and corporate with the same "On Hold/ It will be OK" attitude. I finally talked to someone at the online department that seemed to have it together (Jean or something like that. I have it all written down but, by now I don't really care). She said the package had not left the warehouse and she would try to stop shipment. The whole time I was thinking, I don't want to pay shipping or any interest on this item. She told me if the package gets shipped my daughter would just have to reject it. Jean also put in request for a refund at this time also. I explained my daughter was pregnant and didn't need the hassles I was experiencing and she may not be home to sign for it. Needless to say UPS delivered it anyway and I paid for my credit card off right away, sent some very strong e-mails to Home Depot Corporate,Investors and Online Service. What a waste of time. Well if you have read this far, you will definitely get a laugh out of this!! On 03/09/06 my daughter calls me and says, "UPS came by today to pick up a package for Home Depot". Words cannot explain my feelings at this time and I think I will have to go for counseling for a year just to get over this ordeal with Home Depot. I sent them a very nasty e-mail today to leave my daughter alone and that this item has been paid in full. The scissors are begging to cut up my Home Depot card!!! Will I give in ?? At 21% interest through Citibank and service like this, it is very possible! Thanks for your time. Lowes here I come!!

I purchase new and rather expensive GE Washer and Dryer from Home Depot, online. Per the receipt, I received a call from HD to confirm the order and set a delivery date. During that call, they said they would fully install the washer and dryer with delivery, for a $50 charge. HD subcontracts it's delivery and installation to Winns Hauling, who, did NOT install the appliances completly, nor did they know how. They damaged my formica counter tops, and tile floor and dented the washer. I went to HD for resolution, because I purchased through them, and it's their contracted installation company. This ordeal has been ongoing for three weeks now, and I have been brushed off by 8 people at HD. Even GE representatives remember me by my voice on the phone, because they are familiar with the saga. I have written a letter, spoke with Management personally and on the phone, and still my house is damaged and HD doesn't care that they are part and parcel to it. I will NEVER contract any work that requires the slightest skill with a handtool from HD.

I was a long time customer. I have had it with HD. There is no service or friendly service in this place anymore. The staff has become unfriendly. There is no management around. It took about 1.5 hours to buy 700sq.ft. of tile today. I spent around 15k last year at HD on home renovations. That tile is the last thing I will buy there.. I will give lowes a shot this year. What has happened to HD??

I bought an air purifier and specifically confirmed at the time of purchase that I could return it if not satisfied. The cashier told me I could return within 90 days with a receipt. I tried to return it after 20 days with a receipt and was treated like a mass murderer. I told him that "Home Depot told me I could return the item with a receipt if not satisfied." "WHO told you? Home Depot is an ENTITY," he kept responding to me snidely, with attitude so thick you could cut it with a knife, as if the idea that this was store policy was the most foreign concept to him. Finally he agreed to give me store credit. Afterwards I saw the sign at the return desk as clear as can be: "Returns less than 90 days with receipt, so what was the big attitude show about? Now I have a big store credit that I have no desire to use rather than the refund I deserve. I tried to appeal to another supervisor there but he played totally dumb. I feel like suing these guys, but they probably have a legal clause that makes them not responsible for actually having to live up to their return policy. But if they are going to entice buyers with a liberal return policy, why do they treat you like **** for taking advantage of it?!!!

I thought an easy project to help a senior citizen friend of mine...remodel the interior of his studio apartment for his caregiver. That was a "thought from hell". Store Managers never responded to paging from consultants, Store managers never answered any phonecalls, Store managers refusing to try to help out when HD is totally at fault. I ordered EVERYTHING (off the shelf for ease of project). Starting with shipping, wrong merchandise shipped, defects and missing pieces in the box, management would not acknowledge me!! Then, I tried to email them @home depot "contact us". An "error" message appears......another words, we get too many complaints so, we don't take email anymore????? Too bad they don't take care of these issues, it would be so easy to win customer's opinions!! We have to go on our own website to publish our distaste of their horrible customer service.

the home depot in erie has a great staff all are under paid and over worked. it's a shame to see so many people say they are lazy. ever see the service desk? five customers to one employee. not the workers fault. be kind.

I have installed windows in my home @ 26752 Calaroga Ave, Hayward, CA, 94545 from Home Depot Fremont (Relo) 43900 Icehouse Terrace, Fremont CA 94538,(510)490-0191. I have spend $3200 on windows. After the installation when Hayward city did inspection on my property and told me that Bedroom windows are wrong. Window opening should be more that it was. They gave me a ticket to replace them. I spoke to Home depot manger about this. I told them the product they sell me is not per coded. He told me that he can't do anything it was not Home depot responsibility for the size while they charge me $ 50 for size. Their representative went to my property for sizes. My question is How stupid and unprofessional they are? How they can sell unsafe, not per coded product to the customer. My advise not to buy any product from them. make sure you check everything before you buy and have them write on a paper for you or they will cheat with you the way they did with me.

People seem to have the same complaint about HD- "They claim the projects are easy, and thus they suck you in and force you to spend more $!" But I am a little cautious and take HD for what it is- a decent store with good, competitive prices. . .it's the most underrated place for Xmas shopping!

Our local Home Depot used to be excellent. Then they remodeled -- during the remodel they moved their inventory willy-nilly. They didn't group things together -- moulding was with screws then the next day it was moved near sprinklers. The staff had no idea where things were. It was more like a treasure hunt than a shopping trip... but it wasn't a fun treasure hunt. Finally, the remodel ended. I can't see any improvement to where things are except that they now have a service desk where the McDonalds used to be. I've gone in there several times. I've walked out several times. It's good place to be ignored by staff. However, I had to get flooring in quickly and HD was the closest. In the afternoon, I got help right away from a really nice person. She assured me that they could provide everything from taking out the carpet and the previous tile to putting the flooring in. I brought my husband in that night to pick out the flooring and waited and waited for someone to help us. We got passed around until we got a gentleman who assured us again that they could do everything. So, we bought the raw materials. The HD measurer came, took measurements, and noted the current flooring -- rug over tile. He still gave the impression that HD could do everything. However, when the installers came, they told us that we had to remove the tile ourselves because it might be asbestos. Nowhere in the paper work had the representatives of HD indicated that this might be the case. I called HD and they said their folder had a note to this effect. I'm not the Great Karmac -- I don't know how they expected us to know what we had to do if the note was on their folder and not on our documents! Since we've already bought the flooring, the adhesive and the mouldings, we're between a rock and a hard place and they offer no help. That's the final straw. I'm selling my stock in Home Depot and giving all my business to Lowe's even though it's further away.

We placed an order for an item over the phone only to find out the next day that the item was not in stock. Why we weren't told this when we placed the order, I do not know. The order was canceled the day after it was ordered. Six days later, our credit card was billed for the canceled order. Two weeks after this, the delivery company called to schedule a delivery, we refused delivery because we had bought the item from a store that had them in stock. So, 9 weeks after the original order date, our credit card has still not been reimbursed!

Home Depot deserves an "F" for their customer service. Those bums won't give you time of the day if you ask them for help.

I work in the west windsor, nj depot and I can tell you this...it is the worst company to work for in this country! In the past 6 months they have removed ALL monetary incentives, including our meager Christmas bonus! Meanwhile, our butthead ceo has been placed in the top ten list for highest bonus of the year! That's right boys and girls, our ceo has given himself over 20 million dollars as an end of year bonus!

The worst customer service and inconsiderate people I have ever dealt with. Do not purchase anything that has to be a special ordered. They do not know when it will be in and they will not bother to check on it for you either. I will never shop there again! I will shop at Lowes where their employees see you and ask you if you need any help. You will never get that at Home Depot. The employees are LAZY!!!

In one fell swoop Home Depot was able to lose me as a customer forever. Since purchasing a new home in the San Francisco Bay Area last september my wife and I have been making weekly trips to the Home Depot in San Mateo, CA for supplies for the house. In August of this year we decided to upgrade to Andersen sliding doors and windows, hoping that they would improve the value of the house and help with heating / insulation. This was going to be a decent sized purchase for us, but probably very middle of the road for Home Depot. Rest of the review is at http://mccormi.com/index.php?p=51 (Cut short due to size limit)

I have always had wonderful experiences at Home Depot. I have done many home improvement projects myself, and I have learned to always take the time and effort to do the project right. Research about what you need BEFORE you buy it, and if you want quality customer service don't go at a peak shopping time (like right after work). It's just like when dining out- you have to wait to be seated longer and receive less attention from the server during rush hours. When I've needed it, I have found the employees to be incredible helpful and informative. (Maybe it has to do with my direct questions). And the return policy is awesome! I once returned 5 bushes that had died (due to my own mistake- I'm still learning!) and received the full credit back because I had saved my receipt. I bought new bushes, and they are thriving now. So as you can see, I have only positive things to say about Home Depot and their employees.

let me tell you the people at home depot are great but the upper managament realy sucks and its because of narsmelly he is killing us and hurting all of you with all his new plans to make the stock holders more money he doesent care about the stores or the employes he only cares about his millions if you all realy want to help the employes and your selfs stop shopping at the home depot for two mounths send them a message that they wont forget hit them in the pocket for once then they will come around to the old way of life where customers realy came first and they stoped firing the people with some real intelligence and time on the job.

Home Depot used to be my hardware store of choice. It used to be clean (no more), organized (never), good service (none), and a great place to check out new tools, appliances, etc. My last 5! visits to my Home Depot were awful. Rude employees, inaccessable merchandise, filty dirty, etc. Now I drive right past my Home Depot right to the Lowes. The Lowes is always clean, straight, and stocked. There lumber is better, their hardware is cheaper, and the place is a joy to shop. The only reason I gave Home Depot one star is because I couldn't give it no stars. Awful store and I will NEVER shop in one again.

Worst customer service of all stores! Also, layout is very disorganized. Go to Lowe's for an example of how a home improvement store should be laid out.
