Dec. of 04 I signed up for SBC Yahoo DSL Service. In Nov. of 05, we moved to a new home on the other side of the city and discovered we were no longer in the SBC service area. I had to turn off the phone/DSL service. We have been billed $200 for "early termination" of service even though it was not our choice - we tried to transfer the service. Their customer service #'s give you the run a round and all they can spew is the same rhetoric: "If you hadn't moved, you wouldn't have to pay the termination fee" or "If you would have completed the year, then there would be no fee". It's nothing more than extortion! Another way to get more money out of your pocket. An unfair penalty! I hope the California Attorney General's office goes after them like they did with the other companies who try to extort illegal "early termination fees"! Jay in CA

SBC IS THE WORST PROVIDER WITH ALL HIDDEN CHARGES I signed up for a DSL Account in DEC 04 and because I relocated to AZ I had to terminate my services. I incurred the termination charges of 200 $ + prorated charges totalling to 310 $ when I cancelled in November - One month left for my contract. and also, I had made sure I checked it before signing up or before cancelling. THEY ARE THE HORRIBLE PROVIDERS AND TO THINK THEY ARE ONE OF THE LARGEST WITH A PATHETIC SERVICE MAKES ME LAUGH. - When any potential customer calls up for DSL/phone package they are told that the termination fees will not apply if we relocate to a place where there is no SBC service - Even when cancelling I confirmed with them about Early termination fees. And they said I wouldnt incur any because I relocated. Whats up with a big company like them - seriously. I dont know if they tell their agents to talk anything just to make a sale. Honestly totally DISSATISFIED WITH THEIR SERVICE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WOULD NEVER EVER NEVER RECOMMEND SBC the NEW AT&T TO ANYONE. In short " SBC SUCKS" If I had to go back to Texas, I want to call them and make a mockery of them and sign up for verizon or anything else. What a monopoly. ________________________________________

Connection service for SBC Yahoo DSL has been fine, although a little slow. However, I had such a great rate $28.58 for two years, that I didn't complain. This fall, SBC doubled my rates and, after calling and calling, I still can't get the rate to come down. My bill hovers around $90-100. I call, get a $20 credit, then my base rate gets increased. If I discontinue service before Feb, I will be charged $99. My DSL rate went from $28.58 to $47.01 to $53.60 to $37.64. Who knows what random rate I will be charged next month.

I keep having problems with receiving email. The emails get permanently lost when sent to my sbc email address. I've been on the phone with sbc tech support more times than I can count and never get definite answer. The problems goes away on it's own after awhile, then starts happening several days later. My anti-virus definitions are up-to-date and I run daily scans at their suggestion (or their trying to blame my computer) but the problem starts and stops on it's own. I've given up trying to work from home and maintain business contacts due to the problem, and I'm shopping for another internet provider. SBC has the worst tech support I've ever used.

I have had very few problems with SBC/Yahoo DSL. Their browser is not the best but you can use your own. Technical support seems to be good and has resolved all of my problems. Much better then AOL and one of the very few that was available in my area. If you had or are having problems its probably a setup issue.

My DSL went down last Saturday. I had to spend 3 hours on the phone with a Customer Services Rep. to confirm that it wasn't because of a cable that is not plugged in. I reminded the CSR that the line has been working for over a year and nothing has changed. I eventually got an appointment for a technician to come. The technician was supposed to come Monday between 12 and 4. I waited at my place during the time and finally called them again at 5 pm. They dispatcher called me back and said due to a scheduling error they couldn't come that day. They technicians finally came that day and after two and a half hours of looking at the lines determined there is nothing wrong with the wiring at my place (big surprise there). They promised it would be fixed by 8 pm Tuesday night. I called again Wednesday afternoon because it wasn't fixed. They promised they'd fix it by Thursday afternoon. Thursday night still not fixed. They promise they'd fix it by Friday 6 pm. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

I think there should be some class action lawsuit for false advertising for SBC. Their Express package states 384K-1.5M but it never goes over 500K for me. This is very strange because I had the same package at a higher price and when I asked for the 'deal' I noticed soon after my speed went down drastically. I used to consistantly get 1.2M speed and now I get half that much. So they must be limiting my speed. They should not be claiming 384K-1500 since my girlfriend who lives a couple of blocks away got the same plan and hers also does not go over 500-600K. I checked both connections several times with DSLreports.com and got the same results consistantly. What gets is that when you call technical support, they don't tell you the truth, instead they waste your time with totally insanse stuff. One guy asked me to move the modem away from the computer to increase the speed!!!! The other guy told me to turn it off and on. They are totally clueless. But if you wait and call in the evening you get their outsourced call center in India where they have no power to really help you or tell you the truth. They repeat the inane statements like robots. Also in case no one here knows it, they give them all fake names like Robert, Bob, etc. When they cant tell you even their names how can you expect any truth to anything. Being Indian myself I resent them having to make up western names and then claim its their name. It just seems very deceptive. Anyhow SBC is able to give a lower price since its not competing fairly, it claims upto 1.5M and gives you at the most half of that.

There should be litigation against SBC. my first months bill was 90 bucks. my aunt's first SBC bill was 300. they dont tell you when they're marketing that they bill you TWO MONTHS in advance!! also you cannot get rid of ANY of the options in their phone plan (which you HAVE to get to receive the 14.95/mon DSL offer), cause everything is packaged. the service has been alright so far. no interruptions in connections. maybe that's just my wireless card cause i do get dropped from the internet. but get ready to dish out some major cash to get their services. definitely BEWARE of SBC marketing!! they're very deceptive and i dont like them so far.

I just spent six months in SBC Yahoo customer service hell! I had to read through what seemed like hundreds of glib one paragraph blurbs in regard to what was never quite my issue, that seemed to always be paraphrased computer jerk, dumbed down for the benefit of the 70 year old idiots that SBC Yahoo maintains its customer service site for. Finally, I had to resort to their 800 number support line. The rude untouchables at their India call center, to my horror, simply read aloud the same dumbed down blurbs I had already run across before. I then thought I would try their email, hoping of course that it wouldn't also be routed to India, only to find out that they had disconnected their email support for the next two months. After patiently waiting another two months, I was finally notified that in the girl's experience at SBC Yahoo internet was that they could never solve this incredibly easy set up problem and to contact another department - with which I had no business! As the final insult, when I called to cancel their service and rid myself of their idiot support hell, they claimed I was stuck for another year of service that I had never signed a contract for!!!

I have had sbcdsl twice. th first time it was okay. However the second time which is now I am very dispointed with it. Check this out, I can surf some the net,can get on the net via internet explorer. but I am paying my hard earned money for a provider that does not provide. This service does not meet the obligatio n of the contracted relationship. It's like a man tht lives at but won't come home.

1. NEVER worked right; most pictures didn't open - just the little box with an X at top right. 2. Customer service gave me a few things to try, none of which helped much. Guy finally gave up, and said it's a Microsoft problem [the Microsoft software which was provided by and configured for SBC!]. Kinda like Boeing telling an airline/military customer, Oh, that's an engine problem; you'll have to take that up with Pratt & Whitney. 3. One update helped for a while. Next update took an hour or more, and tied me up baby-sitting it. Finally it hung, with no way for me to tell how far it had gotten, nor what state it was left in. Since then, it hasn't worked at all. 4. And it's EXPENSIVE!

I have recently lost my faith in SBC. They have what is the worst technical and customer support in the history of all phone companies. I can't believe that Yahoo! is backing this company. I recently upgraded my service from the 384-1.5 to 1.5-3, and now my internet actually downloads slower than what it use to. I called their customer support only to be told that my line can't support anything higher than 1.5 if even that. Right now my internet is connect at a random number of about 512kbit. Pretty dissappointing considering I'm paying for the price of PRO! Which is support to be over 3000kbit! The funny thing is that before I upgraded, my internet worked flawlessly at 1.5mbit, except for constant disconnects and timeouts on the modem. Now I'm lucky if I even get a connection above 700k. I wish I had never upgraded. I could've switched to cable, for about the same price... and got much better service. I wish I could sue SBC, because they are a horrible company. They lure in customers with offers of highspeed internet, which actually runs almost to dial-up speeds! If anything.. HAHA! Once my year is up with SBC, I am going to switch to cable internet. For 10 dollars more I could get 5mbits (39.99) and I know it would actually work at the advertised speeds. PLEASE, heed to a poor customers advice... DO NOT be tricked into getting any SBC services. Their long distance is horrible. Their DSL is even worse. Please, just don't get it. Okay? The extra money for cable is a much better investment. It will be well worth it.

Speed is good for what you pay... I called SBC though to see if I could change my plan from the 26.95 express to the 24.99 pro.. the lady told me you could do it off SBC's homepage but she didn't know how.. So she transfered me and she stayed on the line and the other lady told her you can't do it.. So the speed is good but the tech support is so/so....

I had sbc dsl installed three years ago.. Even the istalled was painful.. Tech was horrible... Spent four hours on the phone with TS. Finally got it corrected. Was paying for 1.2 to 1.5 Mbps..... which started out that way until last summer. The connection dropped to 569 mbps... Support had know answer.. Switched to charter cable last Sept.. connection has not dropped below 2.8 Mbps.. Have had only 2 lost connections. Which only lasted a short time...

I've had this service for three weeks now and am very happy with it. Set up was a snap with the self install kit and all was up and running in about 45 minutes. At $20 a month for the most basic package it is only $10 dollars more a month then my previous dial up service and cheaper then AOL's full service. Quite a deal! I don't know much about kbps and what not, but I do know I can now download songs from my favorite music service in ten minutes with SBC DSL, and the same download used to take 2 to 2 1/2 hours with dial up. That alone is worth the extra ten bucks a month to me. I haven't timed any downloads, but a 20mb download took just over a minute today, maybe a minute and a half. That's plenty fast for the dough. So far as the Yahoo browser and services are concerned, the browser leaves a bit to be desired. But you can use any browser you want and you can set Yahoo as your homepage, so you still get the same content no matter what browser you use. And what content! Loads of it right there on your homepage. From streaming video to the latest news to a built in scheduler and the excellent Yahoo Messenger. Just tons of choices right at your finger tips. And the page is fully customizable. You pick the content and where you want it. Very simple and well designed. Browsing the web is superb with this service. Even the highest content pages come up in a flash and without trouble. Makes tabbed browsing with Firefox an easy going delight. This makes my computer feel like a Porsche on the internet whereas before it felt like a slug. Very impressive. So, I have faster download times, a content rich homepage, super fast browsing, an excellent IM program, streaming multi media video, a cool email client with Smileys and background choices, and a fully customizable radio station to listen to as I browse the web and work at my computer. Great! The only reason it gets four stars and not five is because like anything, it's not perfect. And I lost service for twenty minutes today. But it fixed itself and I was on my way. And it's been on for ten straight days, so like I said, nothing is perfect. Thus far for this sbc/yahoo package at $20 a month I would have to give it a big thumbs up! And I hope it stays that way.

I've had the techs out here 7 times, customer service is terrible.I've had them try to sell me a whole house filter for $60,had them replace phone jacks, you name it.They suck.Plus,I pay $36.95/month for the pro plan, and I know I'm capped at 1495kbps down (I heard one of the many techs,ha-ha on his handset phone) due to the archaic paired-copper line running to my house. The Indian Customer Service folks are nice but completely unprepared to deal with any technology more compicated than telling you to clean your temp internet files and cookies. The local customer service tries to pass you back and forth to phone support, then data support, then phone support, all requiring calling different numbers..In addition, the speedstream 5100b modem I was provided with is barely adequate.I had cable,it rocked,I'm going back.If you do p2p,torrents,or a a power downloader, run as fast as you can from this company...sign me FED UP IN SPRINGFIELD ILLINOIS.P.s.-someone ought to kick tommy lee jones in huis sack for shilling for these a**holes.

I work for SBC Tier 1 Installation Support and I'll more than gladly admit that the customer service is lacking, the installation instructions provided with the installation kit are lacking(and some of the technhicians, probably me included,) and also the information provided to us is slim to none. If you are to contact somebody that seems to halfway know what they are talking about that means they have previous experience or they have been with SBCY long enough to know the software loopholes(doesn't happen with regular tech support anymore with the exception of Second Tier Support.) I'm with an outsource company. They train us how to use our tools, that's it. Theytrain us not to go beyond the normal scope of support. The start us out taking calls with only information of how to access our database, and quick fixes to things that aren't actually problems, just screwed up software configurations. We aren't supposed to even offer support for something that isn't SBC related for fear that you might call in and get someone without the exact same knowledge(knowlege that not many people have/knowledge that OEM, MS, *nix tech support would charge you $30-$60 per half hour to release on a case by case basis.) A prime example is: say you call in wanting to install your service without installing our software, thats no problem. Now throw a router into the picture and then the tech support agent gets a write up for helping you setup the router and a second, third, fourth, etc. computer. This actually happens all the time. If we are lucky, we can send an unresolvable issue to Second Tier or the line department without getting written up as well. They really don't want us doing anything except giving a script, and referring to another department. The sales department is even worse. They don't have a clue what the tech support department is allowed/not allowed to do, to when we get a new customer, they think their DSL is actually going to speed up the computer itself instead of just the internet connection. There have even been cases were the sales dept. have told customers that or basic modem has wireless capabilities, will connect with USB, 1394, and some even say that its completely wireless not even requiring a phone cable or get this: a power cable. So if you thought the support bad because of the individual technicians, you now know otherwise. On a side note, the DSL does not speed up your computer, it doesn't clean up your hard drive, it only puts one peice of spyware(Visual IP Insight, the software engineers actually denied that it was part of our software, found out personally.) It changes your homepage, but doesn't hijack your browser, It will however lock up your computer if it isn't top of the line(crappy software, yes) If you have any malware(spyware/adware) the installation will not go through, if you have any dial connection(50/50) the installation will not go through. If you have any type of security software, anti-virus/firewall software(like Windows XP SP2 even) the installation will not go through. Anyway, just ranting about how I hate this job, and to think I wanted to be technical support when I grew up. . .

SBC and Yahoo have separate privacy policies, and customers had better read the fine print of both to know what they're getting themselves into. According to Yahoo's privacy policy for DSL subscribers, the Sunnyvale company will make use of information about you that is personally identifiable, like your name, address, e-mail address or phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available. Yahoo says it will track DSL subscribers' Internet browsing and share personal information with trusted partners. Such info will be used in part to customize the advertising and content you see. THIS SHOULD BE CALLED THE NON-PRIVACY POLICY!!!!

Hi, I live in Wisconsin and I've had sbc yahoo dsl for almost a year now. I pay the $26.95/mo for the 'sbc yahoo dsl starter' plan and I've been very happy with it. My download and upload speeds have consistently both been around 32-38 KB/sec when done simultaneously and when just downloading, my speed has consistently been in the upper 40's. I also like the browser it came with, and some of the extra things that are connected with yahoo that I find I actually use...like the extra briefcase storage that's offered, or being able to listen to launchcast plus music in messenger rather than just the regular launchcast. There was one time when my service was down and it was only for about an hour. I did call the customer service during that time to see what was going on....but, the memory doesn't bring any feeling of disgust or anything....it seemed like just normal customer service. She seemed nice enough to me. Anyway, I feel like I got a really good deal and it's what I can afford. [Edit] Recenlty I phoned sbc and asked if I could change my service to the sbc yahoo dsl express and get the special rate of $29.95 (that's the plan that's on special now, which is faster than the starter plan) and so I signed up for another year at that price. I've had this service for a couple days now and found the upload speed is about the same and my download speed is high as promised. Also, I checked my billing statement to make sure I got the special deal and it billed ok too.

I ordered telephone service through SBC with the understanding that I would be able to get DSL and that phone service was not wanted otherwise. I was told that DSL was available to me. Phone service was activated and DSL service was activated on the 18th of September. I called either on the 20th or 21st of September regarding dropped connections and was given a case # and told that I would be contacted. Two weeks later with no contact, I called again on a Saturday and was informed that the SBC system was undergoing maintainence and that I should call back on Sunday. I called back on Sunday and again was given a case number. Hours later I was called back and informed that I could not be provided with a reliable signal and that DSL service would be denied and that I should just send back the DSL equipment. The following Monday, I sent an e-mail to support trying to get some answers regarding what was going on with my service. This was Monday, October 6th. I have never received a responce to this e-mail. I called back again about a week after the last call, and was again informed that DSL service was to be denied. I inquired as to the first case number I was given and learned that nothing had ever been done regarding it, I was also informed that after being informed the first time that DSL service was to be denied, the matter was just left undone. I was informed on the occation of the second time that DSL service was to be denied, that I would be contacted. Each of these four incidents have never been responded to as they should have been, and that I had been assured that they would be. Now I am informed that I will have to pay for telephone service that I never wanted and never used. The only calls that I ever received were SBC telemarketers. I never made any calls from that line. I feel that there should be no payment due for anything regarding services from any division of SBC. If support had handled thing as they should have done, I would have know within days of service initiation that DSL service could not be provided and could have canceled all services and should not have a balance due on any account. Another issue with SBC. I gave my Yahoo e-mail address when service was initiated and before DSL service was activated. I have since been flooded with spam. My conclusion is, that SBC sold my e-mail address, or it was obtained through a security breach. Before getting service through SBC, I would get about 1 or 2 spams per week, now I get over a hundred a day. SBC has sent my account to collection and has still not provided the level of support that should be expected. I have absolutely no intention of paying for the Abominatioin they tried to pass off as service. The only reason that SBC Yahoo DSL got a 1 star rating, was because, you do not give negative number ratings. I will not only never, and I repeat, never use SBC Yahoo DSL, but I will never use SBC for telephone service either.

I have had SBC DSL for 3 months now and believe it to be a good value. In the first week of my service a router in Central Calif. went down and caused 5kB transfer rates for three days. I became frustrated, called customer service (India or Pakistan) and no one could simply get that service was interrupted by a system problem. (which I subsequently was told by a neighbor) So, If #1)your computer does not suck #2)you can drive it, debug it #3)have good protection from viruses and #4) have patience you will likely have a good experience with SBC DSL.

I've had no problems whatsoever with SBC. I live in Fayetteville, AR. I got the service with the 1.5Mbps-3.0Mbps option. I didn't want to use my computer to directly access the net, so I had to go through installing their software to get registered and get my userid and password, but was then able to uninstall it and configure my router with the info. It has worked since without any problem. My only complaint is that 1.5Mbps-3.0Mbps means 1.5Mbps. If it's ever gone past 1.5, I didn't witness it. That said, it is consistently at 1.5 and doesn't go below and I'm satisfied with the speed and the extra cost.

I work for SBC Tier 2 tech support and I will admit we have some customer service issues to resolve, but it is nowhere near as bad as some people make it seem. 1.)Outsourcing tier one is being done by a lot of companies. 2.)If your computer sucked before DSL, it's gonna suck afterwards. 3.)DSL and dial up are not the same thing. 4.)Just because some has an accent does not mean they cannot provide you with good customer service. 4.)America you get what you pay for if you want all tech support in the USA then pay $50.00 a month for dsl service.

Thinking of going with SBC/Yahoo DSL? I had no experience of other providers but here are my two cents on SBC/Yahoo: The service works well once it's set up there has been very little downtime. The speed is apparently not as good as competitors but I have found it OK for downloads. That's the good news. Bad news is that getting the system configured was a nightmare. I was forever passed around within SBC and out to the modem manufacturers and back. The Modem folks were OK but you could tell they had a lot of desperate SBC people to deal with. To set up my system required I am not joking, one and a half days on the telephone with thirteen separate phone calls. There were hours spent waiting listening to muzak while on hold in queues. (You NEED a speakerphone as you will be on hold for 45 min. plus every time you call.) Most Customer services people didn't know anything about system set up. I was speaking to people all over the USA, (it's not yet at the stage where you get onto a Yemeni call center and anyway that may provide better service. ) If you do get in an endless loop with Customer Services, get to a technical-sounding part of the bureaucracy and demand to speak to superiors until you find someone knowledgeable sounding. My experience with the non-DSL side of SBC is almost as bad - trying to alter payment details or plans.

How can they have a contract without a signature? Or they don't tell you that there is going to be a fee until you disconnect.I will not pay $200.00 for them to hit a switch!!! It is slow, freezes and I am not getting my money's worth for this hassle.

I'm in agreement with most. SBC DSL is terrible!!!! It's much much slower than dial up. It crashes our computer. Half the time you can't compose mail, it freezes and does nothing. I tried to cancel, but now they say we'd have to pay $200.00 for early cancellation. I was under the impression from the commercials that there were no contracts. Any company that'a worth anything should let you out of a contract if they cannot live up to their end of the bargin. They claim it's fast and no matter how many times you call tech support, they cannot solve your problem. In SBC's in my account file, there is nothing showing that I signed up for a year's contract, nothing showing the months left of the contract. It's a shame they can get away with this. They probably tell everybody now there is contract to keep taking peoples money. It's terrible how they rip people off.

Biggest mistake of the year was signing up for this lousy service. Its been a month and I can't get it to work on either of my two computers. Even though I meet the minimum system requirement, the software slows computer #1 to a crawl, so slow that you can hardly move the curser. The software won't even install on the second machine. It did hi-jack my browser though and I still have not been able to completely uninstall their software so I can use dial-up. I am going to have to reformat my hard drive to get rid of it apparently. Tech support is totally worthless. They know absolutely nothing about anything. I would suggest avoiding SBCYahoo DSL at all costs.

Horrible customer service...I had numerous problems setting system up. Their only solution was to charge me $150 for a technician visit. Same problem with 2 other coworkers...Once it was set up, it is reliable and cheap. I would vote for another service.
