Brings the Bush administration its only shred of cred, and it is just a shred.

One of the greatest politicians of our time. He is brilliant and ideologically sound, the only one willing to keep talks going during the UN security council roundtables. He was a great general, and a helluva better soldier than the hero of Vietnam, our John Kerry. The people who post on this forum should pick up a history or political science article or book before they begin the age old rhetoric of WMD. They were used in the 1990s and Clinton had bombed the hell out of Iraq for it. Also, please be advised that the new 9/11 commission (bipartisan i might add) has said that the administration was not pushing the intelligence community, and was informed by the british, russians, and our own that the weapons were there. Colin Powell did the right thing and did it with a much more respectable and intelligent discourse than a future would be president Kerry could.
TriSec 07/23/2004
A good man totally eviscerated by the Bush administration. It's too bad that he'll be tainted by shrub's legacy; he could have really gone places.

Affirmative Action, Israeli sock puppet!
BeatlesfanStev eo 07/14/2004
A very good general. I doubt it will happen but i hope he runs against hilary in 2008.
LoudKidB 07/03/2004
Needs to be a stronger leader. Has excellent leadership potential as exhibited during the gulf war, however, has stooped to being used by an administration. Needs to be more strong-willed.
towny114 06/22/2004
Colin Powell is the white sheep of the Bush administration. He is caught in a bad situation. great politician, honest man, but being in this administration may cost him the chance of being the first African American President.
mvjoyce530 06/18/2004
I used to think he had integrity. Now I don't.
call_it_as_i_s eeit 05/27/2004
Colin Powell has proven himself to be a sycophant agressively impeding the public's right to know. High level shoeshine boy is still a shoeshine boy.
Opie Onion 05/18/2004
Ruined his future by following the military tenet of following orders. He would have been 10-times a better president than the man he's working for. But now, after fostering Bush's lies, he's toast.Later...I appreciate that he can to his senses temporarily to endorse Obama.
superjmanfanta stic 05/17/2004
A man of integrity. Outshines any of his collegues. This man should be the President.

POWELL DOCTORINE WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD IN iRAQ
jbford 04/29/2004
I think Mr. Powell makes just about a perfect Sec. of State. He is a war veteran, wounded and much decorated at that, a scholar, a diplomat first class and an American that honors and respects the Office of the President of the United States. I believe that many of the people dismissing Mr. Powell in this forum should have to discover what the lack of freedom to express themselves feels like. The freedoms we enjoy come from the sacrifice and humility of people who serve, not people who complain and do not contribute. It is people like Mr. Powell, who dedicate their lives in service to America and honor their fellow citizens with that service who deserve our total respect. If it were not for such men this country could possibly be permanently in the grip of one or more of the forces that have always opposed us.
daddy ray 04/21/2004
He has lost it and sold out to special intrests. Uncle Tom He should pack it in.
raiden 04/07/2004
I think he could be a great diplomat or president if he wanted to. But is just a puppet of that idiot Bush.
Falcon91Wolvrn 03 03/25/2004
I once loved this guy, and believe he could've made one of our greatest presidents of all time if he ever wanted to, as he commanded tremendous respect from both America and the World. But after 9/11 he became a puppet of the Bush regime, and agreed to do anything they asked, including lying to the world about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. He was a master diplomat, but now subscribes to the Bush foreign policy of using war and threats rather than diplomacy.
lincolnsandcad illacs 03/24/2004
I have no respect for this crook. Even though Powell is still popular with many people, it has slipped considerably - mostly because he heavily supported the case for war when there was no WMD. On the outside, he appears to be an intelligent and well spoken man, but on the inside Powell is a typical high level politican with an obsession for greed and power at whatever costs. He, like many powerful politicians, has no heart, no morality, and no longer knows right from wrong. As a side note: Although Powell is part of Bush's cabinet, he takes sides with many liberal issues such as affirmative action, pro-choice, and gun control.
donquixote_dc 03/19/2004
Worthy of a Greek tragedy. A guy who once had the respect of almost the entire country, and the world, squanders it by coming a pitiful mouthpiece for the Bush Family Evil Empire. Hey Colin, how's the weather up Shrubya's ass?
eugeneboy 02/18/2004
lied about iraq.
sooyiban 02/15/2004
I admire him greatly. I loved when that putz, Ohio congressman Sherrod Brown (who never served in the military, by the way) tried to engage him in a discussion about President Bush's Nat'l Guard service. Secretary Powell swatted him like a little insect.
jgls 01/29/2004
i like him, but i think he has been an average secretary of state.
a1mc 11/24/2003
He is okay but I do not see him trying to improve health-care for our veterans.
kingbaby 11/18/2003
Intelligent, articulate, an asset to the United States. The only sad thing is that he is associated with a failed administration.
raybo67 11/18/2003
When arabs kill innocent women and children in Israel he says it is because of frustration. When Israelis defend themselves he says they are over-reacting. Anyone who can't figure out who the enemy is is an idiot!
huskerlaw03 08/09/2003
I used to be interested in Colin, and hoped that maybe he would be an excellent pick as Secretary of State. However, after fighting the Bush propaganda machine in the beginning, he has caved to the pressure and is now nothing more than a puppet. Major disappointment.
StanUzbeck 07/28/2003
Colin Powell is a murderous scumbag who most people mistakenly think of as a man of peace. He is nothing more than a careerist rat who will say anything to stay in the president's good books, and his diplomatic reputation among foreign nations has gone from a respectable high down to nonexistence because of his willingness to spout obscene lies to please Bush. Just another war criminal surrounded by war criminals.
Daryl 07/13/2003
Colin Powell lied through his teeth on several occasions. He lied about the "indesputable" evidence of weapons of mass destruction. He lied and said that the massacre at Jenin never happened.Check rotten.com and look at the pictures for yourself.Hard, indesputable evidence thats real for a change. Most people think they have to like Colin Powell just because he's black, well I don't.Bush used him as a ploy to gain votes from the black community, he's a lackey and a liar, nothing more.
AndrewScott 07/12/2003
Seems to have more character and dignity than what we've been accustomed to seeing in the political field. One of the few who has the respect of a decent percentage of Republicans and Democrats alike. I hope to hear more of his voice.
earthspirit 07/05/2003
Much over-rated but okay. His major problem is history: he's the guy who advised against destroying the Iraqi army all the way into Baghdad during the first Gulf War, and so I deducted a star just for that.
Ed Konstantellis 07/05/2003
Would make an excellent executive in the US Government at any capacity. Since he does not aspire to become president....an outstanding choice for any cabinet position for any president. As long as that president has the morals and integrity equal to Mr Powell
philstauffer 07/02/2003
Powell has been an embarassment to the administration.
ponerse 06/17/2003
I wish Powell could run for president in 2004 instead of Idiot.
tinnlyrd 06/04/2003
First off,he comes across very dignified, soft spoken, precise and all of the attributes you would want in a statesman or politician. That was the good points. The bad points are is that he is very left of center,a dove, and gets away with pulling alot of crap behind the scenes because he's black and untouchable because his rating are high. His staunch support of affirmative action is socialistic.Ya,we have racism in this country when he who got to where he did as being unqualified only to be propped up by quotas could be voted in as president tomorrow if he so wish. Then he puts his kid in as head of the F.C.C and he got there through a set aside job placement.
Moosekarloff 06/03/2003
Just another buckpassing empty suit who tries to pass himself off as a "leader." According to his autobiography, Powell rose through the ranks of that dubious institution of the U.S. military by never taking an unpopular, controversial stand that countered the "conventional wisdom" of the Masters of War: for the sake of furthering his career, he never spoke his conscience. He just rubber stamped and lockstepped with the rest of the Pentagon drones. As the ultimate Yesman and Bagboy of the Bush Administration, he was a prime player in selling the U.S. public a bill of goods concerning those weapons of mass destruction Iraq supposedly had that were such a threat to us. Turns out those WMD probably never existed, or certainly what the kazoonies had was no threat to us at all. So, a totally unnecessary, immoral and illegal war was waged on false pretenses, and Powell was the lying point man at the U.N. in this charade. In this, Powell can either be seen as a well-meaning naif whose credibility has been gravely compromised by a very questionable Bush Administration foreign policy, or a war criminal who is not much better than the rest of the reckless sabre rattlers calling the shots these days in Washington. The scary thing, however, is this twerp is one of the more capable members of W's brain-dead "brain trust."
DrFeelgood03 05/22/2003
Good guy, he knows what he is doing. I think he should run for President someday. I'd vote for him.
Solenoid DH 05/17/2003
Very smart guy, very dignified, shows great self-confidence and self-control. His beliefs on social issues are much too liberal for me, but that's his right as an American. At least he knows how to express his views without being obnoxious about it.

Don't be fooled by the rocks that he got. He's still Colly form the Bronx. A poor kid from the Bronx, he worked hard all of his life. Honost, hard working, a man's man, wehat a stud, he embodies the american dream.I mean this when i say, "He is the only republican I would vote for President." God Bless Colin Powell for pres.
Saltydog 05/02/2003
Colin Powell is an asset to any organization. He is an accomplished Military figure, diplomat, and humanitarian. He is a perfect example and role model for any individual, because of his ethics and confidence. General Powell is the perfect spokesman for the American people.
Redoedo 04/26/2003
Colin Powell is one of the only higher-ups in this administration who has ever served on the battlefield, so he is automatically a hero to me. He seems to be a very intellegent man, but however seems to be caught in a tough spot in this Iraqi War situation, having to convey America's message to the disagreeing nations of the world.
GHWBushFDRReag an 04/24/2003
Unequivocally, I love General Colin Powell. He is a masterful, courageous, and unflappable diplomat. An asset to the Bush Administraion, Secretary Powell is an inspirational man who embraces any and all challenges that face our nation. He is equitable and balanced. All Americans should appreciate Colin Powell for all that he is, and all that he has done, ethically, morally, and for the world, in general.
Daccory 04/14/2003
Probably the only one in the administration who will be listened to by the rest of the world (the others are far too dangerous) However, I think he gets drowned out by the hawks and has to present unpopular policies to sceptical governments worldwide.
Silverbunny 03/28/2003
I never thought that he would compromise his postions on issues that he so dearly fought for before Shrub became the president, He talks, looks and acts like he has been put in a very bad position by this adminstration.

Smart guy, knows whats going on and what to do about the situation.
reeny 03/05/2003
With the U.S. vs Iraq 2 looming overhead, Powell was the first to seek diplomacy to find a solution to this conflict. He has since changed his tune (under extreme pressure from the administration no doubt) I still believe he desires a peaceful solution to this problem despite what he says on television to the American public and I commend anyone who chooses diplomacy before aggressivness.
dahlia 03/04/2003
A sellout to the Bush policies, nothing more than a houseboy for this administration.
Xanatos 02/25/2003
I for one do not know too much about Colin Powell but from what I know, I can trust him. I mean, Look at what he did during the Gulf War! He was a four star general before he retired, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and is the Recipient of numerous US.and even Foreign awards. This proves to me that he is a pretty trustworthy guy!
