Pluto is the farthest planet from the Sun (usually) and by far the smallest. Pluto is smaller than seven of the solar system's moons (the Moon, Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, Titan and Triton). (Add picture)

Word, GTH. I was told in grade school it was a planet and I'm sticking with that idea...

All the recent controversy about this in the news is ridiculous. Now all the textbooks have to be rewritten because someone got the wild idea that Pluto isn't a planet. All they've done is tack the word "dwarf" on it.

They need to install some outside lighting, and clean up some of the spilled methane, but overall it's a pleasant place, as long as you don't try to breathe. Oh, and bring a space heater.

A cold planet? Yes. But it's mythological story is awesome. Pluto--Hades--Hell. No, I am not a Satan worshiper, but I do think the myth of this planet is a fascinating subject. Pluto and Persephone was one of my favorite myths I've read. Plus, the name just sounds so cool!

We've all witnessed the following scenario: a group of kids comprised of one toddler and the rest of them much bigger and older. When those kids are on the go, the littlest one always seems to lag way behind, trying to keep up with the others. Well, that's Pluto!

I love Pluto. It's so lonely and sad and small out there. And cold. And I like the idea of its moon being almost a sister planet, so it does at least have some company out there at the edge of our solar system.

Too small, too cold. Sort of like Napoleon.

I'm giving it five stars because it's the underdog, I don't care what all those magazines say, size does NOT matter...

Hard to have an opinion on this space boulder. There would be no reason for anyone to ever go there. Even way in the future when people are able to traverse interstellar space they would probably give Pluto a miss entirely. There might be a small rest stop there, with restrooms and a place to dump your trash. Pluto's orbit is also way off tilt relative to the plane of the orbits of the rest of the planets. This means that every 150 years or so, it actually comes closer to the sun than Neptune. Which is sort of interesting, but it unfortunately constitutes the sum total of everything that's interesting about Pluto, other than the fact that Pluto is named for the Roman god of the underworld, but that has more to do with Roman mythology than this worthless lump of frigid rock.

Pluto's really just a planetoid because it's no bigger than even our own moon. It's really just a very large asteroid revolving around the Sun in a very uneven orbit In fact, Pluto wasn't even the outermost planet for some part of the 1990's, it turns out that it's uneven orbit crosses over into Neptune's orbit, meaning this was the 8th planet from the Sun, making Neptune the outermost planet. Really when you think about it, Pluto ought not to be considered a planet when you think about the fact that it's near an asteroid belt where some of the bodies there are nearly as large as Pluto and when you consider the size of the planet in comparison to even some of Jupiter's own moons that are really of more consequence in our solar system. Really this is a just a little speck.

Oh, come on, now, people, just because it's little doesn't mean that it's not important . . . . I've never been there (don't want to go there either), so I can't say that I hate the place. Whether it's a planet or not, though, that's debatable.

Why is this a planet??? It's smaller than out moon... it's just a comet that has orbit around our sun. Something this small and out of wack orbit should not be considered a "planet". Get out of our solar system pluto. We hate you!!!

Pluto should not be considered a planet at all. It was discovered by accident in 1930. Pluto is the only planet on this list that has not been visited by spacecraft. Actually, NASA has identified over 60 planets, but thats another story. Pluto's only moon, Charon, is actually smaller than some asteriods and meteors. Even more interesting is that Pluto is actually more like a revolving huge rock. If Pluto was discovered about 20 years earlier, it probably would not have been considered a planet. Pluto is nothing but a rock and nothing more.

Pluto really isn't a planet in the way that the other eight are, but for reasons that I don't fully understand, this is a contentious issue and Pluto is permitted to remain categorized as a planet to keep peace in the world community of astronomers.

It's cool (bad pun intended). I've always liked Pluto cuz it's so far away and we've never gotten a close look at it like the other planets. Plus I'll bet it has the best skiing in the solar system.
