When outdoors and away from women, most men spit. I don't have a problem with that. But walking down a sidewalk and seeing someone spit right in front of you is pretty disgusting. Worse than that, people who spit indoors. I've seen this.  Show some class!

It is one thing to clear your throat or to achieve whatever the act of spitting is intended to in a discrete and civil manner and it is a completely different thing to do it consciously in public in the worst of times and setting. There really is nothing more disgusting and rude than this bad habit... well almost.

It is the worst thing and irritates me.
I once told a person not to spit in the road,but he can spit in the house or on the side of the road. The answer is:
I will come and spit in your house.
What to do with such people?

Honestly, I am probably the worlds most repetitive spitter. I do it all the time because of ball, so I spit sunflower seeds and stuff. I do it all the time, but never indoors, that's rude. Sure people don't like it, but why should I have a bad taste in my mouth over people not liking it? I guess its too bad, I'm notone of those people who only consider themselves, but there is just some things you have to choose over others.

Disgusting I hate it when people do this. I forgot where but somewhere it's against the law to spit?

If you have to do it in public, at least spit on grass, without anyone looking. Otherwise it's disgusting and appears classless.

Very nasty. Think of all the germs one can spread by spitting.

Now this is just nasty. I see people all the time spit on sidewalks or pathways where people are walking. Nice way to catch someones disease. The worst is when they spit mucus all over the gound. Its huge and stucky and can get all over your feet or shoes. I swallow my spit.

What I don't like is when some guys do it out in the open and think it looks macho! Well, it doesn't look macho to me; it is tacky and gross.

If you have to spit,you should spit.But don't do it constantly,it's just plain annoying,and be careful where your spit flies too.

Disgusting habit!

It's perfectly fine if you're out in a pasture somehwere, just don't sit in church with your spit cup. I have friends that dip and they're usually pretty good about where they do it, but sometimes the smell just grosses me out.

I guess it all depends on how you were raised and where you live. If you live on a farm in the middle of the country, then it is probably an acceptable habit, but if you live in a big city, such as Boston or Paris, then it is probably frowned upon. I used to live on a farm in the country, and I used to spit, but now I realize how bad it makes a person look, when they do it in front of people in a big city. *I moved from the farm to a Florida city*

I hate it when I am talking to someone and out of the blue they just hock a big nasty glob of spit right in front of you. Nasty man, Nasty!

Sickening, especially if they chew tobacco. My boss does this, and he leaves his spit cans laying around everywhere. He learned very quickly that he was going to clean up his own messes because he saw that we weren't going to do it for him.

Unless a bug flies into your oral cavity or your in the privacy of your bathroom over the sink, don't do it. It looks positivly gross when you see someone walking along the sidewalk and suddenly the "hock a lugiee" onto the grass. Yuck!

Spitting is a very disgusting habit. The mouth has a lot of germs and microbes in it. By spitting, you are releasing that into the air. It's just plain unsanitary; no one looks cool by doing that, just swallow your salva!!!

Sometimes I just need to espel some of that amalayse. It is a must when you have a dip in your mouth.

Not a good idea - unless you're at the dentist's office, your bathroom sink or have suddenly morphed into a llama with an attitude problem. I would say that public spitting (by human beings) is pretty much looked down upon in most civilized countries. A nasty act which, if directed at another person, could also be considered a health hazard. Yuck!

There are certain times in one's life when you have to spit. Like when you eat/drink something disgusting, get sand/bugs/other in your mouth or if you're superstitious. To me, that kind of spitting is very much allowed. But then there are the kinds of spits that are just plain wrong, like spitting on the floor, on someone else or on anything else of value. When that happens it's digusting and disrespectful.
