I'm not really an opera person, but I certainly have an appreciation for it.

Saying you dislike or like opera is like saying you dislike or like rock.

There's as big a difference between "Die Zauberflöte" and "Gotterdammerung" as there is between the Byrds and early King Crimson.

To me, opera has to be taken on a case by case basis.  Some are superb.  Some are like live cats being sawn in half accompanied by drunken gorillas on the kettle drums.

I always love the opera on the rare times we get one in Memphis. Also, a little can go a long way...

Yes, it takes a lot of talent but I feel it's just a bit too pretentious.

Can be a little confusing to watch, but some great singing talent can be heard..

Okay, they can sing well. . .but it gives me a headache. I went with a girl I was trying to impress. . .never again. But it does take great talent. . .but it's not for me.

The only operatic-type singing I can appreciate is that of Charlotte Church, because she doesn't seem to be as grating as most of the others. Her voice has a velvety smooth quality that lacks in most opera singing. In general, however, I can do without opera. I prefer the instrumental side of classical music.

never really liked it. it just gets to my ears and it annoys me. those fat ladies yelling....no thanks.
