Maybe I'm an old fart, but this all sounds the same to me. I take some comfort from the fact that my teenage kids feel the same way.

I can't listen to it. It all sounds the same...monotonously bad and non-musical...the people who perform it, whatever their race, are interchangeable in terms of their dress and mannerisms, and, at the risk of sounding like a closet elitist, it bothers me when people I've never heard of performing "music" I wouldn't listen to if you paid me live in opulent mansions and drive 4 or 5 BMW's. African Americans have been responsible for the best music, and I have to imagine that somewhere Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, and Johnny Ace are rolling over in their graves whenever this dreck gets played.

Yes, I am white AND I can appreciate rap. Early rap used to be so intelligent and appealing. Honestly about self expression and unique style. That is the hip hop I respect and am into. That said, if I hear ONE more song about jiggling asses and getting "low" I might vomit.

I have always disliked rap. It just isn't my thing, I don't understand the appeal or how people consider it music. But for the most part I am most offended by the violent, racist, and misogynistic rap.

In the 1980's, Chuck D of the group Public Enemy famously said that rap music was the CNN for inner city blacks.  20 years later he noted that in the hands of the current popular rap acts like Diddy, Kanye West, 50 Cent et al it has become the Playboy Channel.  I think he may have used a few expletives when he said it too. 
It should be noted that the actual form of rap goes way back to the 30's and was originally called the talking blues.  Practioners included Leadbelly, John Lee Hooker, Sonny and Terry, Woody Guthrie and up into the 60's Bob Dylan (Subterranean Homesick Blues, Talkin' Word War 3 Blues) and Lou Reed.

guess there is an audience for rap and hip hop. not a fan myself. they do not have to worry though since it appears there are a lot of fans out there to keep them in business.

Most rap is just horrible and the lyrics are disgusting if you understand them....however, I am a pretty big fan of some old school stuff like Public Enemy and Beastie Boys, and newer artists (last 10 yrs) such as Eminem and Fifty Cent, JayZ, and Will Smith....

I will say this. I'm not much into rap or hip hop, but can tolerate some of it, and if I have to listen to too much of it, then I'll be hip hopping out of that place. And it won't be to meet Peter Cottontail, either!
