Choose Arnold if you want California to be back. Back in the black in the budget. Back to the best schools in the country. Back to the best job opportunity. Back to the best we can be.

Of all the political candidates, he probably has the most in common with porn's Mary Carey. They both got famous for having a big chest -- not their acting chops. If candidacy required submitting a relevant resume like most prestige positions, any human resource manager worth their salt wouldn't conclude his colorful past in any way merited a screening interview. Conan the Barbarian and the other Hollywood candidates simply have no serious skills they can demonstrate. Sorry to offend those who appreciate the entertainment value of watermelon-smashing.

Vote Arnold - this is what you are voting for - Interviewer chats via video conference with him for a few minutes, non-controversial, nicey nice stuff - no problems at all. He asks the question 'Arnold, are you going to release your tax returns for the last 5 years?' Arnold - "what?" "Are you going release your tax returns for the last 5 years' Arnold - (motioning to ear) "I'm sorry, I can't hear you" Interview then ends. hahahahahahahahaha!!!!! No real position on anything. No plan. No answers for remotely tough questions. (even simple yes or no ones.) You go get'em, Terminator.

Arnold is so popular, and why not, he's great! He has a great position on all issues, and he's very liberal. He's so good. So all I have to say is "Hasta la vista, Gray Davis!"
Tired of Fruits&Nuts 08/27/2003
Probably the only candidate who will be able to produce results with democrats in control of legislature. Dems converted surplus into a deficit in spite of tax revenues increasing 25%. They don't want problems fixed by a republican & bustamente wants to continue spending, raise taxes, and convert Calif into the 500th largest economy in the world.
abichara 08/27/2003
I think Arnold would make a very good governor for California. Considering what California is going through right now, an outsider like him would be ideal. Gray Davis ran as the governor "that you don't have to train," but yet somehow he has managed to make some very bad policy decisions throughout his tenure. In politics, having too much experience means that you owe plenty to a lot of people; Davis is beholden to the special interests. Arnold is surrounding himself with the best advisors he can possibly find. The tricky part for him will be getting elected. He needs to appeal to the conservative "true believer" base while at the same being able to maintain the support of Democrats and independents. Additionally, if Arnold is going to win, he has to have a unified Republican party. The conservative/moderate split has to go. He is going to have a hard job once he gets elected. The massive budgetary problem plus having to deal with a very hostile and very liberal state legislature can give anyone heartburn. The only way he can effectively govern is if he takes on the liberal special interest groups that have tied a gordian knot around state politics. The problem with Gray Davis is that he tries to appeal to all of these groups who many times have divergent interests. Arnold just has to step back and govern without much consideration to these groups; they'll never support him anyways.
TIRDAD 08/26/2003
great ARNOLD is better than all of governors in usa, because he live really for people.

You'll rarely see me give a dispassionate 3 on any political topic, but I'm torn about Arnold. See, I've got a soft spot for actors turned Republican governors of California, and there's no doubt that Grey Davis is major screw-up. But I'm determined not to let my partisan feelings cloud my judgment here. The difference between Arnold and Reagan is that Reagan was 100% clear about where he stood, he understood the issues, and could articulate a political vision better than anyone of his generation. (Don't believe anyone who repeats anti-Reagan cliches about him being an empty suit, they surely haven't read the collection of his essays "In His Own Hand" or seen the Time for Choosing TV address that launched his career.) He also was courageous as hell, taking unpopular stands that proved to be 100% on the money. Arnold on the other hand is terribly fuzzy on just about everything, except for the idea that its good for kids to have access to after-school activities (how brave!) , and he has enlisted as economic advisor Warren Buffett, whose knowledge of sound economic policy is inversely proportional to what he knows about investing in companies that make razor blades, etc. The only good thing about Arnold is that he might actually have the mandate and charisma to get something done. The problem is that I don't think he has a clue as to what he wants to do. If it weren't for my faith in George Shultz (also involved in this campaign) and my guilty pleasure in watching Grey Davis melt in such a weird spectacle, Arnold might get a 2. But he certainly ain't gettin' a 4 or a 5.
benchwarmer 08/25/2003
Look, I like the guys films. I respect that he made something of his life from weightlifting, but his run for Governor is the epitomy of what is wrong in politics. This should not be a popularity contest. Vote for someone who will get the job done, not someone who is a walking Cliche'. "I willl pump up california?" come on. That's childish at best. The whole world is watching and they're laughing at us.
forgotten hero 08/24/2003
As an actor he's a legend but as a politician I'm not so sure. But I do know that Gray Davis doesn't stand a chance against him.
harleygirl 08/23/2003
Does he think we're STUPID? We need SOLUTIONS, not quotes from his movies!
SupervillianBo bo 08/23/2003
My rating reflects my personal opinion of his chances of reaching office, not my assessment of his quality as a candidate. Like it or not, he's probably going to win this thing.
d60433 08/23/2003
needs to read reagoans play book too liberal
earthspirit 08/22/2003
hey, he's not really a conservative (he's a social liberal), but I think he has the balls to run the state. California is in such deep doo-doo, they need a big change, and he's the guy. Go for it, Ahhhnold!
grantgould 08/22/2003
I think CA is due for a radical change and Arnold has (or knows the right advisors) what it takes to fix some serious state problems.
Moosekarloff 08/21/2003
Ronnie Rectum, as celebrity candidate, was a sad joke. Jesse Ventura as celebrity candidate, was a sick joke. Arnold Schwarzenegger as celebrity candidate, is a demented joke. Appalling that someone whose sole talent, pumping iron, was used up in the gym 20 years ago, yet feels he has the wherewithal and experience to run a huge, complex state that has over 30 million residents. It's so absurd you don't know whether to laugh or apply for an immigration visa to Australia. Ronnie Rectum turned out to be one of the lamest candidates ever to hold public office, suited only to serve as Corresponding Secretary to the Orange County Rotary, yet served perilously in the Oval Office for eight nail-biting years. Ventura, totally over his head, not only showed that it takes more than mere name recognition to run even a small state like Minnesota, which should be renamed, in honor of the voters who put this slob in office, "Land of the Knuckleheads." Frighteningly enough, Schwarzenegger has less on the ball than these two other birdbaths, so his candidacy is the greatest instance of comic hubris to visit American politics since George Murphy. No ideas, no vision, no plan: great trifecta. Yet we're hearing the same old tired BS concerning lack of experience we got from another totally ill-equiped dirtbag who campaigned a few years back, namely the Pretender-In-Chief, Handjob Douche, who said he was going to assemble the greatest brain trust of all time to walk him through the motions as he did his on-the-job training. Well, look at the advisors he ended up with: Cold War retreads, political hacks and general rightwing hangeroners who are so dim they couldn't figure out how to wipe their butts without the aid of an instruction manual. Schwarzenegger's approach is similar: "Hey, I'm a dope with absolutely nothing in my background to suggest I'm capable of holding public office, but I'll leave all the planning, thinking and decisions to my advisors and handle the one-liners from my crappy movies when I meet with the public myself." Great. Just what California needs. Talk about the absolute display of self-delusion and arrogance!!! Having this guy run for Governor of California is as plausible as having Rosie O'Donnell appear in the Victoria's Secret catalogue. Or worse. What I found absolutely hysterical, the height of disingenuousness, appeared last week in The New York Times: Schwarzenegger, who has committed over 500 on-screen homicides, admonished a group of grade school children during a photo op to "Say no to violence." Totally surreal.

If you have ever heard of Milton Friedman then you know he's a noble prize winning pro-free market economist. Having been converted to a strong supporter of capitalism by this gifted man's writing I know another convert when I see it, and Arnold is it. The only reason this man will not outshine Reagan himself is because he's not allowed to become president having been born in Austria
AndrewScott 08/20/2003
The actor from Austria may have an easy ride to a top political post, thanks to his Hollywood A-list image. To be fair, countless others can be faulted for similar easy rides to Congress due to name recognition, including Hilary Clinton and George Bush, Jr. For whatever reason, Democrats and Republicans alike feel perfectly comfortable voting for someone without much of a political track record, provided they have a familiar last name. (The name recognition factor also helps many an incumbent sail fairly smoothly to re-election. Strom Thurmond, the inspiration behind the Weekend At Bernie's flailing-corpse movies, proves the point. And Ted Kennedy is no Jack) Maybe Schwarzenegger will surprise us at being a genius at on-the-job improv. Casting directors haven't hired him to play serious roles in dramatic films, thinking audiences wouldn't be able to take him seriously. Maybe they've been short-sighted.
sscheidle 08/20/2003
Seen the press conference. Seen the commercials. Seen the website with NO political statements on it. Geez, does this guy think we're THAT stupid?
bkb45 08/19/2003
Let's be real about politics for a moment. Even if Arnold isn't the most experienced person it doesn't matter. He is surrounding himself with very intelligent, experienced people, e.g. a former Sec. of State, and a popular billionaire businessman. Besides, Gray Davis was very experienced and look where it got us. Arnold will be a strong, charismatic leader who will win the hearts of both democratic and republican legislators. That means things will get accomplished. Go Arnold go!
MrGuardian 08/19/2003
Why vote for a businessman who doesn't speak of his issues, nor has created his businesses, but rather thrown money at them. We need a "hands-on" approach!
YesIamRight 08/19/2003
Arnold has a lot of personality but, really ZERO experience to do a great job. He has excellent discipline, but little more. If he can replace Gray out Davis then more power to him, but I do not think his socialist policies are right for CA. He has not said anything to win me over yet. I'm more inclined to vote for someone who actually cherishes freedom and demonstrates this in the policy statements they make. I see higher taxes with Arnold and more of the same in government spending. Still a better choice than what we have now.
RHall 08/13/2003
Nice man, but not good views to be in government here in the USA. France maybe, where I just lived for two years. Mr. Schwarzenegger's ideas are good for him to spend from his own personal bank account, but not ideas to be placed on the average taxpayer who works daily in order to support his family. California will make no improvements from its mess under his leadership.
Woof42 08/13/2003
Arnold will win, if he can stay away from the press.
atwood 08/12/2003
At least he claims to have liberal views on social issues.
mrctjs 08/12/2003
"Hasta la vista" is not a vision; "I'll be back" is not a strategy!
lilylangtree 08/11/2003
His Hollywood liberal leftists call him a social democrat. He is an Austrian Gray Davis. He doesn't have the experience nor ability to help Californians out of the state's economic mess. He's running on his Hollywood-created image. Termite the Terminator would be terrible for the state.
sdhaff 08/11/2003
The best w/ a chance to win
sunstar 08/11/2003
Gray Davis is toast!
SkippyMcDooda 08/11/2003
He has terrible taste in clothes.
reeny 08/10/2003
There is no doubt that Arnold is an intelligent man, but he has very little real political experience. If Arnold wins then it will be very interesting to see what he has in store for California.
magellan 08/08/2003
It's kind of hard to tell the joke candidates from the legitimate candidates in this zany election. However, the way things are looking, Arnold S (terminator, predator, twins), is looking extremely formidable. With Riordan and Issa out, Arnold is going to get a lot of votes. I guess what scares me is that we simply have no idea if this guy has what it takes to take on one of the most demanding political jobs in the country. Nothing he has done to this point in his career would even partially prepare him for the role of California's governor. Yes, he is a republican - so if you're republican, your knee jerk reaction might be to seize the day and put someone from your team in the office. But seriously folks... shouldn't we assume that this job takes more than camera presence and hard work? And if that's the case, aren't we better with someone who is from this line of work?
Redoedo 08/08/2003
Certainly not the most qualified man to lead California out of the hole it has fallen into. However, I do think that he will win given his widespread appeal and popularity. Who knows, maybe Arnold will surprise us all and terminate California's problems.
DrKryptic 08/08/2003
You don't go straight from being the gym teacher to Superintendent of Schools. Likewise, Conan The Barbarians credentials as the President's Physical Fitness abassador does not make him qualified to be Governor of a state with 5th largest economy in the world. If you vote for Arnold your "protest vote" could actually end up as Governor. Think about it.
