I was prescribed Duac after normal cleansers failed control my acne. I used it once and the next morning my face was bright red, burning, itchy, bumpy and extremely irritated. Everything made it worse. Cold washers, hydrocortisone creams, moisturisers all made it flare up worse. After 3 days, it now looks like a bad sunburn and I finally feel like I can go out in public again without scaring people. I was told to wait until my skin calmed down before trying it again. There is no way I will ever try this cream again...

Seemed to help straight away...possibly hormones chilled out a bit so my skin cleared up a little....still got one or two little ones popping up....dries my skin out pretty bad but i've not been using it very long and my doctor says I should go easy on it if that happens and gradually build up how much I use it. I think basically, too much has a very bad affect. Use it sparingly, once a day. Fingers crossed

Ive been on duac cream for two months now, it's been brilliant. My shiny oily forhead has dried up completely and my non stop little annoying white heads have stopped (i was getting a least five a day for the last 6 month after my dianette was stopped). I'm 31 and have been on everything for acne since i was 14 including two rounds of roaccutane. I wish i was given this in my teans. The pharmacist adviced me to store it in the fridge which the leaflet doesn't, but it seems to work. My skin is great or the fact that ive been using it now for 8 weeks. Its more a preventer cream than a healer i'd say. I found that when spots are in their fullest glory it doesnt work as good. You also have to beware of the short shelf life of it, after about 5 weeks my first tube of cream stopped working but with my second being kept in the fridge after my recent advice i.m hopping it lasts the recommended two months. It did cause some spots where i don't get them usually cheeks but as soon as i realised the cream was the cause i stoped using it in that part of my face and they went away!!strange other wise brilliant for mild white head oily acne.

ive been using duac in the morning and retin a micro .04% at night. ive used this for almost 2 weeks after murad acne complex totally messed up my skin. my pimples are getting smaller and smaller every day and my face is smooth. i have alot of acne battle scars but my doctor said that if i keep using this they will also go away. i also use liquid neutrogena before i apply both of this products.

After about a month it starts working great. You have to be patient. I was on it for almost a year and by the end I had no acne. Then I got off it for a month or two and now its all back. My doctor prescribe me more of it. My acne is of course getting worse.. But it will get much better soon.

In my opinion, this stuff is horrible. I have had moderate to severe acne for a couple of years now, and not much has seemed to work. I dont know if its the duac alone, or the combination of the other topical with it, but my acne has gotten worse. Not only does duac make my face dry and red, it seems to almost plaster the acne on permanently. Acne has come up in places where it ususally wasnt too bad, and the duac seems to get rid of the bumps, but not the redness. If your dermatologist gives this to you i strongly reccomend you dont use it.

This stuff is poison for me. I used it once for cystic acne on my chin, and the next morning my chin was all swollen up, red and itchy with a rash that turned into sores and took weeks to go away entirely. I also had a huge swelling under one eye that was red and itchy. All the information on Duac says that an allergic reaction is highly unlikely.About 6 months later (3 weeks ago), my chin was again badly broken out and, in desperation, I used the Duac again. I mean, the information said no probable allergic reaction, so I guess I kind of forgot how bad it was and thought maybe it wasn't the Duac. And I was desperate, so I just put it on the bumps. It happened again, causing a rash that turned into about 15 sores that won't go away. I just got some erythomicin gel, which I used last night, and my chin looks 10 times better this morning.Duac is actually very dangerous for me. I had to give it one star to rate it, but I really think it's dangerous for some people, so it should have negative stars. I actually never went back to the perfunctory dermatologist who gave it to me, because I now have bad feelings towards her.

im 13 and i have acne and use the Duac ointment that my dermatologist told me to use i have been using it for about a month off and on now. At first i wanted to see results right away but i didnt i saw the same but i stoped using it and got acne worse!! so i put it on twice a day not once and my acne is clearing up just fine thanx to Duac!!!! but it only works good on certain types of skin so be carefull and dont use to much like how i did. cause just using about a dot on just your ance works!! putting to much dont make it work faster.well i got better things to do so use duac i recomend thanx for reading. love peace and soul!

I used Duac for a few days & my face broke out 5x's worse :( So frustrating. My derm said it would get worse first but it's so badddd. & I just want to get in bed cover my head & never come out...I just dont know what to do. I am on Duac day & tazorac night & a doxy antibiotic. I am beginning to think that amputation at the neck is the only fix....

This stuff cleared me up totally after seven weeks of religious application. There did not seem to be much benefit before six weeks, I almost gave up a few times. It's been about 2.5 weeks now without a blemish. I'm not sure if this is coincidence but around the time when it started working I moved from storing it in my bathroom to storing it in my bedroom. My prescription information pamphlet said to do so and I didn't read it until about six weeks in. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is that it took so long to work and it dries my face out pretty bad. One way or another, it's worth a shot.

This is the only thing that has completely cleared up my spots in over 12 years of antibiotics - including Roacutane. Nothing else worked, even with Benzamycin I had occasional painful outbreaks. The downside is that I've been really ill since I started taking it - really dodgy stomach, constant cramps in my gut, constant nausea and occasional vomitting, passing mucus and blood, and headaches. My doctor didn't believe it was the cause but I've now tried coming off it twice for a week at a time and the symptoms have gone each time - but my skin gets bad again after only a week. Has anyone else experienced these side effects?

Im 16 and suffer from moderate to severe acne.i was given duac gel to help get rid of the acne once and for all but little did i know what the gel was actually doing to my skin.i began using the gel for about a week, and must admit that my acne seemed to be getting better on my face.sore red spots had reduced dramtically in size and new spots did seem to be forming.however,a week into my course my mother noticed little red spots appearing along my forehead and on my cheeks.i had not noticed these,as i was mainly focused on the spots disappearing.i kept a close eye on the little spots and i noticed a gradual increase as the weeks went by.i also noticed my skin had become darker in certain areas(around my lips and outer cheeks of my face.i have fair asian skin, and the dark patches had become very noticeable too.i stopped using the gel,and suprise suprise, the spots went after a week or so and my skin lightened gradually after i had stopped using the gel.a useless gel in my opinion.

I've been using Duac Topical Gel (Or Clindoxyl, as its sold in Argentina) for almost a year now, and I can say it's a great product. My acne problem was moderate, not very serious, but by using this product alone it has completely dissapeared! I woke up with a bit of red irritation in my face twice during this year, but in both times it was gone after an hour. Provided that you use the product carefully, only apply it in the affected area, and in small quantities, it does not have any negative side effect and does wonders for your skin.

Ive suffered from painful red acne on my chin and excess grease for years. Im now 22 and got sick of it all. So im now on the antibiotic Tetralysal 300 (Lymecycline) and Duac Gel. I first tried the Duac on Sunday; I put it on the whole of my face as it's meant to control excess oil production. It is now Wednesday and since then the texture of my skin has gone very weird, its not exactly noticeable but under the light I can see my skin all over my face looks like fine orange peel- tiny bumps all over?! I dont know if this is like an allergic reaction or just an initial reaction and my skin will get used to it!? My skin feels tight. Since this ive only applied the Duac on my chin. Thankfully my acne has gone already, (im now left with red scaring) but my face feels pretty tight, a little itchy and I hope this strange texture goes away! Anyone had a similar experience?!

Nothing else I used up to age of 30 worked until now! I just wish I had been told about it sooner. I have no side effects what so ever using this gel. It's really great!
nomoreduac 01/01/2007
This medicine is mediocre! If you put too much out, you can't put it back! It is so messy! And I am confused about the refrig part...the pharmacists took it out of the refrig, do I have to put it in there too?? In addition, it's been very drying to my skin!! I told my dermatologist and he switched me to something called Benzaclin. He said all his patients are getting that now instead of Duac as Duac only works 1/2 the time. He said it's less sticky, more convenient and a lot less expensive!

I am on my third week of using Duac in the AM. My dermatologist prescribed it along with Doxycycline pills and Tretinoin in the PM. I am black with oily skin. I stopped taking the pills after the 4th day. I couldn't handle the nausea and felt that Duac and Tretinoin be just fine. I also use Cetaphil as a cleanser. Duac didn't irritate my skin or cause side effects but my skin isn't sensitive or dry. My skin is now smoother and the the pimples have subsided but not totally. I've had mild acne since 16 and it always scarred my face. I'm anxious to see where my skin will be in two months and hope to get a good fading cream for the scars later on.
giuditta 11/26/2006
Itried Duac for three days. I quickly had an adverse reaction. Redness and swollen face..even in the areas where I didn't apply the gel. I also had extreme itchiness. My acne is def. hormonal...I stopped using it and the pharmacy gave me a full refund. I'm resorting to getting a series of facials now. A more natural approach. I don't recommend this to ANYONE with sensitive skin.

I recently had a rhinoplasty surgery (nose job) 2 1/2 months ago. After the cast was taken off my nose began to break out. I dont even have acne, just a minor pimple once in a while. The plastic surgeon gave me a prescription for Duac Gel. I worked great for about 2 days. For the next month it never healed the problem and would flair up. It left my nose a pinkish red color. Once I stopped using Duac because of no progress the skin on my nose began to clear up (go figure) This product might work for some, as for me it did no good.

i have been using duac and retin-a for about 4-5 months now. when i first started after about 3 weeks my skin was perfectly clear! it was amazing. but after about 2 weeks of clear skin i started breaking out once again (even though i was still doing the same thing i had been all along) and now my skin is the same as it was when i started using this product. it works for awhile but i guess my skin became immune to it or something (idk?)
Undermine 07/31/2006
Different people have different reactions to this product. Some people may be allergic to Benzoyl peroxide. Before I got this perscription I used to put, about a quater sized concentration of BP on a single side of my face, it was a thick layer. When i started using Duac I barely used half of that much. My acne went away within a few days as a matter of fact. Duac makes it hard to squeeze and touch your pimples as it applies a layer of protection so to say ontop of your skin. Again different people different reactions, Duac will not work for everyone.
babystarr25 07/20/2006
I've been using Duac for over a 1 1/2 years. It works great. My skin isn't oily looking, no white marks, and works great under my make-up. I have or had severe acne. I take minocyline 2x a day, duac in the morning w/olay moistureizer, and retin-a .01% gel at night. My skin is clear and if something seems like it wants to appear, it doesn't cause any scars like before. I love it.
ericaluvvy 06/22/2006
In fall of 2004 I was perscribed duac topical gel to use in combination with tazorac and the minocyclin pill. From what I can remember the results were amazing. After 3 months my face was completely clear of all acne. I have some acne now and have been using the tazorac cream, which has made it worse (as it always does right befor it gets better) and just found my old duac gell in the fridge and started using it last night. I really hope I dont suffer from any of the adverse reactions experienced by some of the others on this forum. Since I haven't in the past, I do have high hope. Like I said, I don't remember having any face issues with the gel... I believe it works beautifuly applied in the am, taz in the pm, and only washing the face with dove soap and no moisturizer. I'll post if anything happens.
jsbritts 06/20/2006
I too have very little acne but enough that it never goes away on certain areas of my face. I asked the dermatologist about it and I said SPECIFICALLY that I have very dry skin otherwise. He gave me Duac and Differin both to use, one in a.m. one in p.m. Differin made my face feel wonderful. The first day I used Duac, that night I got painful itchy dry, peeling spots below my mouth. They hurt so bad and are horribly dry and everything burns them. Don't count on me using Duac again.

I started using this product three weeks ago, and so far it has done nothing but cause more acne-little red dots all around my face, especially my chin. My face has also been splotchy. I am glad to see that others have had the same problem. I am going to discontinue immediately.
tylero09 01/22/2006
I have acne from family history and I tried a lot of over the counter stuff and even Pro-Activ, but nothing seemed to work (and proactiv seemed to make it worse.). My doctor gave me Duac and I put it on and two days later my face looked so much better. I was a little concerned about people talking about the side effects, but I never got any. I back this product up 100%, I love it!

I was prescribed Duac two weeks ago by my doctor to clear the scarring that 6 years of mild acne had caused. The results have been staggering I can hardly believe that it's the same face I'm looking at. The scarring is much less noticable after only two weeks application!! Can't vouch for it getting rid of acne but it certianly helps getting rid of the scars once your acne has subsided.
dOnTbShYiBiTe 01/14/2006
This is my second time around using Duac. The Dermatologists also prescribed Elidel cream to put on before the application of the Duac, which helps calm the skin. I use the Elidel and Duac at night and in the morning I apply Olay face lotion and then the Duac, and I have no redness or itchy patches whatsoever. This has been successful for me.
tdawg798 11/21/2005
Love the stuff...I have been using it for about 6 months now...and it started working miraculously after about the 2nd week...this is good stuff...never irritated my skin like retin-A or proactive...

We were concerned with a few stubborn patches of light acne on our daughter's face, so we asked our MD. He prescribed Duac for her and she cautiously applied it over the course of the next week. On the morning of day six, she had some red patches develop on her face. By evening, she had a full red rash over her entire face, even where she hadn't applied the gel. By the next morning her face was so red and swollen that she couldn't open her eyes. We rushed her to the doctor, and have her on antihistamine and steroids to try to counter the reaction. She has remained in a horribly swelled and painful state for three days now. My advice for anyone who is considering this product is to use it as a LAST RESORT.

I have been perscribed everything: Duac, retin A, clindamycin, plexion cloths, erycette, tretinoin (avita). I have many kinds of acne, not any in extreme cases though. For me, i found that Duac and Ery 2% anaseptic pads helped the best for cysists. The duac sometimes over irritated if used to much. i would end up with a red chin in contrast to my white face so you must be careful. however, it does help to cover the reddness of a zit of without causeing whitelines. the ery pads sometimes had quicker results of applied multiple times a day. When I go in the sun too much using sunscreen can make my shoulders and back break out terribly. the ery pads were a miracle, if spoted and treated before they really broke out, it would stop the cycle. for pores and scars, Retin-A is the way to go. i find that sometimes though it is more helpful to use only for a couple hours or so becuase when I sleep with it i feel like the oil in my skin counteracts the good effects. Clindamycin was helpful in the way that is is not as irritating as duac and also has antibiotics in the cream. Haven't used the avita long enough to know the full results.

I got Duac Topical Gel on Saturday because I have acne infection. My doctor also prescribed some antibiotics for me to take as well. Obviously the antibiotics is working quit well but it gave me some chest pains and i couldn't take deep breaths when i took 2 pills per day so i cut down to only 1 per day which is better. The Duac Topical Gel helped removed pimples but it also caused a few red, dry and itchy irritations around my face. I have the feeling its going to scar which i really don't want to happen. Its been about 1 1/2 weeks now and im still getting red, dry, itchy skin. Is it because Im applying too much?
jms709 10/01/2005
I have been using Duac for a few days now. This product has not been bothering my skin in any way, however I think it is causing me some intestinal issues, which is one of the side effects ...as it says in the little brochure I got. I had high hopes for this one but I think I should call my doctor soon...
bobinutah 09/05/2005
Like reported by cdcutie on 8/22/03, I got a rash and little bumps after using Duac. My Derm. is treating it with Fluocinonide, MetroGel and Minocycline with no improvement. Anybody knows what this is and how to treat it?

stuff gets rid of pimples but leaves your face very red, and ichty adn stomtimes puffy ive been using it for 2 weeks
Lisa777 12/20/2004
I got this stuff Saturday from my dermatologist and today is Monday and my face is all red and itchy! I dont know if its because I have very little acne or what but I got it mainly because I get scars from pimples on my chin.I used this Saturday nite and nothing happened and then this morning I am a mess!! I actually had to stay home from work today because I look so bad. This stuff which I paid $35 for was a complete waste of money and it is gonna get tossed in the garbage today!
epilnits 12/09/2004
I had bad acne for a long time. But my biggest problem was the fact that I wasn't patient enough to let it go away on its own so I would pick at all my pimples. As soon as I started using Duac, it went away completely. Now I have pretty much stopped using it continuously and my face is nearly perfect. The only time I get problems is when the weather starts to change, my acne starts to come back. But I use it for a couple days and it goes away. I guess my only complaint is that it makes my face look kinda pink. I don't mind it, but sometimes I'm afraid it'll get REALLY bad so I stop using it when it gets too red.
tommy jones 11/14/2004
How long should this stuff take to work? I've used it for a week or so and so far its been the same or even a tiny bit worse. I don't get read like some people say, but I do sometimes get a little dry skin. For those of you who it has worked for, how long did it take before getting results? I also have oily skin and this stuff hasn't changed that either!
marthaj21 09/20/2004
This stuff is great! I had acne for many many years and I was never able to clear it up 'ntil I used this cream. It worked great for me. I used it only for 3 months! I didnt apply too much daily, not only because it is expensive, but also to protect my skin from irritation. And it worked!
marleyk1 09/13/2004
Finally. This stuff works AND doesn't irritate my skin. I couldn't be happier.
BKiddo 08/23/2004
Never cared for this stuff. All it did was dry my skin out terribly and make me look like I had a sun burn (it burned my face like a sunburn, too). It helped a little with some of my acne but, I wasn't too pleased with my face looking all red.
ace83899enrich ment1 08/18/2004
I have mild acne (just from family history) and I tried this stuff mostly on the nose and in between the eyes and on the forehead. The acne completely went away in like 2 days. I don't know what people are talking about with it taking a long time to kick in. I didn't have any side affects either. Maybe I had such success because I put very little on.
luvclear237 08/14/2004
I really like this stuff! I haven't seen any dramatic changes for the first month but it really worked out well the second month of use.It does not dry my skin like other medications and no peeling at all.My scars are dissapearing everywhere and I am really excited with my clear skin!..I reccomend patience to those who are willing to use it.
syntax_lies 08/13/2004
My face used to have a lot of scars due to popping pimples, causing discoloration of the face. I've been only using this product for a month and I have gotten MAJOR results. They are almost completely gone. The only problem I have had so far is mild peeling, which can be helped greatly by Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser.
P.sunshine 08/06/2004
The first time i used this (all over my face) i woke up with a red chipmunk face my cheeks and chin were swollen and extremly red my forehead was also slightyl puffy and red it was terrible! felt and looked like a sunburn but worse(tip:test this stuff b4 u use it)they say that20-40% of people get this effect but i hope no one else would have to deal with such a thing as that, then i stopped using it ,recently i have-one back to putting it on small parts ofmy face it still gives me the redness but does it job fairly well for someone suffreing from mild acne of the forehead and chin but i want to know is there anything anyone can reccomend that is a sure acne blaster and does not come with the adverse side effects?
stealthnurse 07/14/2004
The doc gave my 14 y/o daughter several sample tubes for her mild breakouts....worked great for her, worked great for me, too. No reddness or irritation for either of us. Very expensive when not covered by insurance...I just paid $101 for a single tube...I'll shop around for a better price on the next one!
plaidpaisley 06/03/2004
I used this product in the morning along with Tazorotene at night and it has been 4 weeks and my skin looks amazing. In the morning before I use this medicine, I wash my face with soap and a little bit of sugar, which helps to exfoliate. I use moisturizer before I put on the medicine. It took 4 weeks but this product really works!
Earthisis 06/02/2004
I've been using a combination of DUAC in the morning Retin-A at night, and tetracyclene twice daily. My skin was terrible, and I must say it has improved a LOT!!! I don't know if its one product or the combo, but i have no complaints. I would recommend this to anyone whether they have minor to severe acne. It has very insignificant side effects like slight peeling, other than nothing to write home about.
I.Perez 05/13/2004
I started to use it for a week because I had a very mild case of acne. A week later my face looked red and puffy. My face also burned and itched like a sunburn. Maybe this medication should not be recommended to people with very slight cases of acne.
ckite 04/27/2004
Didn't dry out my skin like many other gels and I started to see results in only a couple of weeks! You can also use it during the summer in the sun because it doesn't make the skin more sensitive to burning. The only drawback: it has bleached all of my colored pillow cases!
