I've had my problems with this one over the years, as its safer than heroin, less messy than booze, not as debilitating as cocaine, and it "cures" my migraines as well. Unfortunately, it's very addictive...emotionally and/or physically...and, as with all drugs, its effectiveness lessens dramatically with the passage of time and continued usage. I'm not physically addicted to it...I don't use it that often...but emotionally it's an on-going battle. My advice, of course, is to leave it alone, even if you're in pain and its prescribed for you by a doctor (that's how I initially "discovered" it). Find some other way of dealing with the pain. One of my idiot friends decided to combat his alcoholism by taking Vicodin to replace the booze, and now he's buying the pills from God knows where and scarfing them down like candy (at one point, he was ordering them from an on-line pharmacy that was located either in Mexico or Canada; they were a sickly green color and looked big enough to choke a horse), while his wife "borrows" them from him if she's having a headache or its her time of month or if she just wants to feel that "glow". A drug to avoid.

Too many people hooked on this one.

dembooo 04/19/2008
i did it once, but i only took one cause its very addicting i was very calm/mellow for about 2hours, didnt affect my driving (GREAT PLUS) but, it wore off very quickly so, in light of that, QUESTION: how much will get you high/ how much will harm you please email back answer to dembooo@gmail.com with the subject : vicodin answer thanks!

Please don't do drugs!

I love Vicodin, or hydrocodone to be more exact. Great high, a feeling of true bliss in the right amounts. My only real complaint with them would be that vicodin is pretty low-dose. 5mg hydro / 500 acetaminophen doesn't get you enough bang for the liver damage it causes.

Best drug by far. Curves appetite and works as an anit-depressant. Great all around painreliever. Helps to take the edge off if you are down, it enhances your mood. Minor side effects, difficulty urinating, occasionally causes uncomfortable light headedness. Also, it works as the best sleep aid I have seen, I have taken ambien and ativan, neither compare. I have tried every drug there is and this is the cleanest high you can find. If you are responsible, this is the drug for you.
Dharma4us 10/28/2006
Positive- like codeine but stronger. when i'm high on hydrocodone i'm extremely euphoric and care-free. Negative- hydrocodone has no value except while your high you feel good. it's very addictive.
AsYouSpeak 01/25/2006
tried it once, took 4 of them and got an amazing, tingly and numb feeling all around my body, i was loopy and it evoked deep and abstract thinking, in the way that weed will. still though, i've grown older and wiser, and i've seen this become a gateway for so many people to drugs that ruined their life. now i just don't mess with opiates at all
frogio 11/30/2005
Dentist gave me some once. Looped me for hours. Not much for recreation when your paralyzed on the couch in a basin of your own slobber.
PlanetaryGear 06/17/2005
Great for pain! The accompaning buzz is somewhat disconcerting however. Very addictive! Use only as directed by physician.
dpostoskie 06/07/2005
Zero reason (recreational) to take this and the loss far outweighs the gain.
thievelandthug 03/30/2005
Used to LOVE this drug when I was younger,as a party drug.Still good to use as,but now I have to actually take it because of back problems. So I cant really chew them down like crazy anymore,But if you happen to come across a bottle and dont take them very often,Then you should get a 5 star feeling outta them.
Peat_the_Kille r 12/04/2004
Way too expensive to be good. A line of H is at least 10 times as effective for about only twice the price. But trust me Opiates in genarel suck, hard to quit, expensive and you cant do anything after you take em for about 30 mins. Not worth it
spatty17 07/20/2004
If you get addicted, withdrawal is just like coming of of any other opiate, IT SUCKS!!!
jazzybee 06/11/2004
very excellent for pain.. but be careful because it can be very addicting.
carolyn smith 05/25/2004
I took Vicodin for gallbladder pain and found it to work very well. The best part was feeling happy and able to get up and do what you have to. I have ADD and I wish I could have Vicodin instead of Ritalin because it clears your mind better and your mood is usually happier.
OpinionatedGuy 02/09/2004
On its own, ok; compared to other recreational opiates though, possesses a negative safety profile and the buzz just isn't there..
laotzu 01/19/2004
Vicodin is the brand name for Hydrocodone/APAP. It usually comes in the form of 5-10 miligrams of hydrocodone mixed with 500-750 mgs of Acetominophen. It's an opiate narcotic painkiller which means that you're essentially doing a much milder version of heroin or opium in pill form. If you want a really great buzz, ditch the Vicodin and go for some Percocet or Oxycontin which have Oxycodone as the primary ingredient (much more powerful)
DickWeener 01/04/2004
When I had my wisdom tooth pulled my dentist put me on a high dose of Vicodin. A very good high is what it gave me, and it's a legal drug if used according to if a doctor puts you on it, so that means it is much safer than your street drugs, and isn't going to hurt you if you take it for awhile until your doctor takes you off of it. The main thing it is good for is killing pain, that is why it was made, it works great for pain.
ReeferMan2 10/31/2003
Who cares if it's addictive. Think how many people are addicted to something. It makes you relax and happy. Good stress reliever. If you come home from work/school and had a bad day. Take a couple of these and those problems will disappear from thought.
gmanod 10/29/2003
All right, so it is a little bit addicting, but man is it fun and relaxing. Many people are probably thinking "well it's bad for you" and such, but when it comes down to it: WHO CARES! This is not a medication that upon being addicted to you compulsively take all the time; it's something that you take when you want to relax, to mellow out, maybe even to sleep. Addiction to this sort of drug won't leave you huddled over yourself in an alley way itching your skin off. If one enjoys it and it makes his existence for that moment more pleasurabel then god bless it.
auxiliary470 10/13/2003
Compared to heroin its nothing, a time consuming extraction to rid it of acetaminophen has to be done to get enough for anything of a nod. I used to be into these a little, but even tylox/percocet/roxicodone and other oxycodone pills blow hydrocodone out the water. to me hydrocodone has more of a sedating effect than oxycodone, which is alot more euphoric and isnt as tiring. although both are a good mix, each operate heavier than the other on different opiate receptors (mu delta kappa) anyway its ok
