The physical freaks are the more human, and the normal human moral degenerates.

Well written and cleverly directed.

And the wedding dinner sequence is a top contender for the most understated creepy moment in cinema history.

Way,way ahead of its time- Freaks starred actual freaks-and portrayed them with some sympathy,as opposed to just plain old exploitation.By the way,this movie is where the Ramones got the line Gabba Gabba Hey. For it's time,it was quite bold and shocking.

Quite possibly the most politically incorrect movie ever made. Disturbing and sad.. but fascinating for all that. I was impressed that in spite of the obvious voyeurism of the movie the characters retained their dignity. Odd and compelling film.

Really disturbing film. The movie itself is a kind of freak; there is nothing else like it. Heartbreaking when it dawns on you just how morally deformed the normal people are in the film.
