Been too long for anything to happen now. Great shame as I reckon it could have easily been as successful as Prison Break for example. I'm not claiming it was perfect as it definately wasn't - the directing was quite poor at the start but the ratings spoke for themselves.Ah well, not that the morons at Fox would listen to the viewers anyway. It didn't matter what ratings or fanbase this show got - it was never going to get another series as it was just created to fill an empty slot in their schedule. Just a shame Fox forgot to tell the writers this so it could be rounded off (instead of leaving a huge cliffhanger - I don't blame the writers at all as they probably believed they did enough to secure a second series & I think they easily did this).

ALERT: SPOILERS!!!!!!!! I loved this show. The first time I watched it there was a marathon on Sci-Fi. I got hooked. During Spring Break one year in college, I decided to have my own marathon and was finally able to watch all of season one. Then I found out that there was only ONE season. I was so mad. The season finale was one of the best that I have ever seen. Joe/Tom finally found Micheal, Theresa, and Pheonix. Digger is the main bad guy. Joe is not only super smart but telepathic and telekinetic as well. So is Digger!!!! It opened up all sorts of questions. Why was the staff at the Vatican? What does the staff do? Why is Digger the bad guy? Since Digger is the bad guy, why was he so upset when his buddy was killed? Why did they kill Michael but try to take Theresa? What in the world is going on? Then I found a press release online that stated what the BIG ANSWER was about Joe. Knowledge from God? seriously? This does nothing but open up all sorts of more questions that will remain unanswered!!! Why would they cancel this show? Everyone I know who has seen this show is as hooked as I am, and as furious. They seriously need to bring it back. Or make a movie or something to resolve these questions.

Is there a logical reason to cancell that great show? i think there is not... ive seen recently and i loved! please FOX, continue John DOE, in excellent, and we want to see the end
fizbansfriend 02/23/2007
An interesting combination of the proverbial "man with the mysterious past" and some classic who-dun-it elements merged to form an intriguing show that should have been given more of a chance to grow and develop a fanbase.
gruok 01/11/2007
one of the truly great tv shows i wish they would bring it back well for now i guess i will just have to watch it on sci-fi
david2006 07/21/2006
Although we never knew it was coming, when we accidentally discovered this great show, we never missed it. I watch very little TV. My whole family loved this one. We really wish they would bring it back.

F***ng awesome. Fox is mad. The series had side-lines to keep us interested and a main storey that left us with a hole in our hearts. Please bring it back!

Fun as hell, imagine Encyclopedia Brown's life once he's all grown up and after he wakes up on a small island naked, alone, and perhaps from a night of heavy drinking as he now suffers from permanent loss of identity, color deficiency, and of course nakedness. Fox can suck my left nut for canceling both this and Family Guy. They brought back Family Guy, but cartoons are easier to reconcile than actors who are now stars on other shows like Prison Break. I doubt this will ever be remade/rescued but judging from the amount of positive threads on message boards on-line relating to this show, it would welcomed by many. "Potential Spoiler Below" I never saw the finale to the one and only season, but I heard that it ended with the leader of the super secret society (which actively tries to cover up John's secret/origin and talks only in sign language and other inaudible ways) being exposed as Digger, John's friend/employer/bar tab personified. Additionaly I heard that the secret to his knowledge was that he died and that the premise was when you die God grants you the gift of knowledge. Somehow he came back to earth with a weird looking brand/scar and all divine knowledge intact. This information does three things for me, I know you don't care what those things are but if your read this far what's a few lines more? 1. Slightly dissapoints the agnostic, science fiction enthusiast inside of me. 2. Somwhat satiates the thirst for a conclusion to theis awesome show. 3. Spawns even more questions like how did he come back to earth, what exactly is that scar from? If this information is incorrect, what did happen in the last episode? Have the writers released what their intentions with the show were?

Very good show. Wished it wasn't cancelled.

This was a fantastic show which should not have been cancelled. How well was it publicised I wonder? Mayb the low ratings were down to poor advertising. I only heard of it this year 2005 absolutely loved every minute and found out after watching every episode it was cancelled, Its not fair, setting up a brilliant story and cutting it off when we were just getting to the juicy part. PLEASE RECONSIDER FOX and remember many new fans have appeared since its been cancelled. We shud start a bring john doe campaign like the save daniel jackson stargate one which worked people power might just ease the purse clasp open at Fox. WE WANT JOHN DOE WE WANT JOHN DOE

It's so disappointing John Doe was cancelled!! I miss it!! Is there any chance it will return?? I can't believe they left us hanging with the final episode. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!! It's the best show FOX ever had! I loved the show Strange Luck, which was also cancelled several years ago. (I think it was also on Fox.) It makes me leary of getting hooked on any more FOX shows! I do love 24. (Maybe I shouldn't have admitted that...it may put the CANCEL JINX on it!! Diana5757

Oh my! I was watching John Doe reruns here in the Philippines. It was just today that I found out that the show was not finished.(surfing the net)I get hooked up in the show the very first time I watched it. This is the only show that I am looking forward every Saturday night(here in the Philippines), and well, it breaks my heart to learn that I cannot watch it anymore. I just wish that the ending can be made as a movie. It's totally disappointing to kill an EXCELLENT show!
SMarinerGal 02/10/2004
I just miss John Doe! It wasn't perfect, no show is, but there was something about it that drew me to the program. I was more than dissapointed when I heard of the cancellation, especially the WAY it ended. It ended at a cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers and it left all of us fans..well..hanging. I know there may not be a chance of bringing John Doe back as a series, but at the very LEAST make a movie to close the story off and satisfy us. FOX originally intended to have John Doe as a movie but they changed their minds and made it a series. Please go back and make that movie! If it is written well, it could very well be a hit. Too bad shows like JD don't get the recognition they deserve.
nrooney 01/28/2004
Not a bad attempt at something different. Unfortunity for JD though, on the UK Sci-Fi channel it is pitched in a simular vein as the Dead Zone series. It filled the same Monday night slot when the Dead Zone is not showing. The comparison between the two shows puts JD in a bad light as the Dead Zone is a much better series. Some of the filler episodes of JD are quite bad, while they stand by themselves as one off episodes, they are generally quite easy to solve and second guess. The episodes which contain links to the Phionix Group are much better.
hierax 01/26/2004
This is a great show I watched it on sci fi uk and I was riveted. didn't miss an episode. up there with likes of 24 even though they are not in the genre

John Doe was one of the best shows on T.V..My husband and I are deeply disappointed it was cancelled. The show itself was uplifting and gave a sense of hope even when things look hopeless-a positive thing in this day and age. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!
ElvesBrew 09/10/2003
Great show and a nice change of pace from conventional television. Another of my favorite shows that got canceled before it's time. I hope it goes to TV heaven along with the cancelled shows Roswel, Odyssey 5, Farscape, and almost every other Sci-Fi television show that was worth watching. In heaven they won't get cancelled because all those cancel happy TV execs will be in hell, where they belong! :) Then when I die I will get to watch all the seasons that should have been, while God and I talk about which Star Trek series was best.
ChrisMac 09/10/2003
Loved this show. Think it stinks that it was cancelled at such a crucial time in the story line.
MrCarib 09/08/2003
Once again Fox dumps a good show after one or two seasons in favor of more brainless programming. They've lost me as a viewer for good!

My family and I were very, very disappointed to hear of the cancellation of John Doe. There are so few thought provoking tv shows that can keep your attention and keep you wondering and waiting for the next episode. Please reconsider this decison. Just when you get into the storyline, someone who is "higher up" and obviously never really watched the show pulls the plug. We loved to watch this show as a family. One that we actually could watch together in which my husband and I were'nt embarrased by inappropriate storyline or language. I hope that with all the high ratings this show is receiving from viewers, someone will take notice and reconsider the cancellation desion. Thank you, N. Gentry and family
njeanous 07/01/2003
I would really like to say that I am terribly disappointed about the cancellation of John Doe. It is and was a great program. With all the other non-intelligent programing on this station and others ..there are very few programs I watch. This one I actually took time out to record so I wouldn't miss it. It was stimulating and intriguing and it made you anxious for the next one. Now Fox has cancelled it. I want them to know that I think all this other junk they show on the station I find insulting to my intelligence and not worthy of my time. The only times Fox is watched in our home is when John Doe was on or Nascar. Sorry to say that, but it is true.I get enough of reality just looking at the news and going to work everyday. When I watch tv, I want something that makes me forget that reality for a while. You could relate to John Doe and walk right beside him in each episode, and be eager to hook up again the next time and hang out for an hour.Fox needs to get some intelligent people on the staff and realize all of us are not teeny boppers and we don't really care about a real persons love life or problems...we got our own. We want good fiction and stimulation and mystery. We want to discuss the shows with our friends and family and try to help John figure out some things.I must say I hope someone else picks up the show and continues it. It is very promising.I am going to miss John and his freinds..even Digger.
Hebabo42 06/23/2003
The smartest tv show in recent history. FOX's decision to cancel John Doe has made me vehemently anti-FOX and I will never watch any show on FOX again. Sorry FOX, you suck big time.
looneybin 06/20/2003
I really think it sucks that they left one hell of a cliffhanger, and then canceled the show. I think they need to figure out a better way to do the ratings, because they are always canceling shows that are good.
CrisGano 06/14/2003
Why don't they ever give anything a decent chance on TV?
xaliasx13 06/13/2003
John Doe it's an incredible show have mistery, some action, drama; so good. entertaining and interesting. Fox can't see a good show when they have one.
Cyntha 06/06/2003
My daughter recommended "John Doe" for my husband and me to watch after I complained about "Dark Angel" being cancelled (bring back "Dark Angel"!). "John Doe" is the most innovative, dramatic, entertaining, pay-attention-to fiction show on television today. Please give "John Doe" one more year to build its audience. As my daughter informed me, Friday evening is the "kiss of death" to shows for people in their 20's & 30's. Please move "John Doe" to a better time slot, and cancel the cancellation. Thank You!
melissa1 05/30/2003
My husband and I were shocked to find out that John Doe was cancelled! There hasn't been anything worth watching on Friday nights since Dallas went off the air. I hope another network picks it up and gives it a time slot it deserves!
