Every Breath You Take (Police) 2

I must be the odd one out, but I just don't like this song.

Every Breath You Take (Police) 1

Another tepid, monotonous, predictable and weak attempt at a rock ballad by one of the most overrated no-talents ever to record. Stink's voice is typically obnoxious and irritating on this pukey and mindless little ditty, which has all the dynamism of waiting for a bus. The lyrics are juvenile, as usual, and the studio sound is ersatz, artificial and totally without any snap or soul to it. Truly unaccomplished and crashingly boring.

Every Breath You Take (Police) 5

Great song, but kind of creepy in a weird, unsettling kind of way, given that the song is about someone who is obsessed with a person.

I think this song is one of the best songs ever written, sang and performed. It has a beat and sound you just can't get enough of and the more you hear it,the more you wanna hear more of it.When the final chorus is sung,(which is about eight times at the ending),you want it to keep going because of the catchy lyrics and sound the band has created.Definately my best song and best of the 80's.Three talented men that made up such a wonderful band with many smash hits.As for THE POLICE, EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE.... I'LL BE WATCHING YOU is their greatest hit and the charts prove it.

I really don't like Sting's melody in this song. I think Don't stand so close to me Was much better.

Great song by the Police and one of their best songs. The song is about obsession and I think the darker subject matter is the reason why it has endured.

Every Breath You Take (Police) 5

Every Breath You Take was the biggest hit single of 1983 and still gets substantial airplay today, maninly due to the fact that the song never sounds dated. Released on the full-length Synchronicity (the fifth and final release by the Police), most listeners thought the single was a simple love song, but on closer inspection on finds that the lyrics and undertones are in reality much darker, as the song is actually about the feelings of a stalker. The music itself proves the magic of simplicity which is continuously evidenced by the numerous times the song has been sampled. Instantly recognized by the opening baseline, Every Breath You Take has been covered countless times by many diverse artists such as Shirley Bassey, the Shadows, Tammy Wynette, Big Daddy, Millencolin, Gloria Gaynor, Fanmail, the DiMaggio Brothers, Undercover, and Henri Mancini. The single charted in the U.S. for 20 weeks in 1983, peaking at #1 for 8 of those weeks.

Every Breath You Take (Police) 3

Musically a bit trite, but okay and I can't help but help but like a song which seems to be 'nice' but has such dark undertones. Not as good as 'Message in a bottle' or 'don't stand so...'

A brilliant song from a brilliant band. The Police should have stayed together. As a side note, I despise that rap / r&b band who stole this song, made the lyrics stoopid and trite, and milked the song's prior success as if it was their own. The shitty remake was called i'll be missing you or something equally inane. Sickening. I hope Sting and the Police were paid hefty royalties to allow such blasphemy to be done to their work.
