This spinoff of the Cosby Show was nowhere near as good as the Cosby Show. But it was entertaining, and it had it's moments. While it's not exactly a great show, I would never classify it as on of the worst TV shows of all time.

Honestly,I really enjoyed the first season, with Lisa Bonet, and the Maggie character, and of course Whitely.after that I quickly lost interest.Im not saying it was bad,I just thought it was funnier in the first season. After that there were just too many other sitcoms that stole it's thunder.

I liked it without Lisa Bonet. It wasn't hilarously funny but if you needed something light to zone out on this is a good choice.

I watched this when it first came, I really like Lisa Bonet, I just think she's unique, interesting. After she left, who cares, can anyone name one actor or actress who was on this?

I didn't like it when it was on the air, and I don't like it now that it's in syndication.

IM PROBABLLY 1 OF THE FEW WHO LIKED THIS SHOW BETTER THAN I LIKED THE COSBY SHOW. I FEEL THE SHOW WAS SO MUCH BETTER AFTER THE DEPARTURE OF LISA BONET . WHITLEY WAS A GREAT CHARACTER AND IT WAS ENJOYABLE WATCHING HER EVOLVE. I HATE WHEN SHOWS END LIKE THAT CUZ I NEVER GOT TO SEE WHITLEYS AND DUANES BABY. I KNOW ITS NOT REAL BUT THATS WHAT TV BECOMES SOMETIMES TO PEOPLE A PLACE TO GO AND FORGET OUR TROUBLES FOR A BRIEF TIME

I disagree that A Different World was one of the absolute worst shows on TV. This all comes down to taste. Why is it on this list and why was it so bad? Was it intimidating to see a predominantly African-American college with youngsters who didn't fit into the stereotypes of blacks on TV as a medium who were protrayed as holding guns and speaking in ebonics? Was it so difficult to digest that Debbie Allen tackled issues head-on in the late 80's early 90's concerning AIDS, date rape, adoption, alcohol abuse, inter-racial dating and African-American history. Of course now these topics seem tepid compared to what we see today, but as far as I'm concerned shows like A Different World were not only a vessel for positive thinking to youngsters but it also showed the world that theres a whole spectrum of black people and not just the negative stereotypes that were too often portrayed.
