I come from a family of jewelers. Craftsmen who knew what they were doing and had real work ethics. Real, licensed jewelers & watch-makers all of whom retired prior to my engagement 17 years ago, unfortunately; so, my ring was purchased from J.B. Robinson (now Kay's). The ring was a beautiful wrap set. My husband saved and planned for so long to buy that ring, earning only about $6. per hour at the time. I've never been so attached to a material object. Several weeks ago I needed to have the ring increased in size by 1/4 size. When the ring was returned to me, the wrap parts did not come together and the two parts were only connected by a little bit of solder at the bottom. The salespeople refused to acknowledge a problem. Having a background in both jewelry and soldering, I explained exactly what had been done wrong. They still played dumb. I can only summarize by saying that the ring was sent back 2 more times, and now it is ruined beyond hope. There has never been an apology. I'm not even sure what to do next. I am so upset. One thing you must all be aware of: None of these chains of jewelry stores, such as Kay's, are employed by actual jewelers. They are just salespeople--not jewelers. When they need to have repair work done, they send it off to people who do piece-work. Do yourselves a favor, find a Mom & Pop's jewelry store in a small town. No, they won't talk you into a Life Long Service Warranty or whatever. They'll probably just do good work the first time around because they have work ethics.

My husband bought my engagement ring from Kay Jewelers in December of 2003. Since then weve had nothing but problems. The ring is platinum with a princess cut diamond. We have had to send it in to be repaired eight times. First they didnt show him the diamond before he bought it. There was a big black chunk floating right in the middle of the diamond. Then the band turned completely black. The new band came back with an uneven head and had to be replaced twice before it finally came back right. Two months later the soldering points turned orange. When the ring came back that time the head was completely disconnected from one side of the band and the whole thing was covered in scratches and dents. The next time it came back the head was extremely crooked and there were gashes all over the prongs. I got it back yesterday, the head is different from the one we originally purchased and is crooked again, there are dull buff marks all over the band, and one of the prongs is razor sharp. When the problems first started (within the allotted 90 days) we asked for a refund. They refused on grounds the ring was custom made. By custom made, they meant they didnt have the ring in stock at the time of purchase and it had to be special ordered. Im going to file a case with small claims court on Monday.

My fiance and I just got engaged and we have had nothing but the best service here in Pennsylvania at Kay's. They were so friendly and helped him pick out my ring. It is beautiful and in great condition. My brother has worked for them in the past and never complained once about them. I will deal with them only from now on.

I worked for Kay Jewelers for many, many years. Management changes brought demands that I do things that were unethical, such as have the customer sign for a payment protection plan without telling them what they were signing, not pointing out obvious inclusions in diamond jewelery (in other words, to praise the diamond and hope the customer didn't notice how bad it was). I was also required to clock out and keep on working. There was blatant sexual abuse going on in the store (and I mean forced fondling and the most degrading, nasty talk I ever heard). Upper management doesn't care as long as the store is making money.

I've never bought a wedding ring from Kay's and I never will after reading user comments. Thanks for sharing your terrible experiences so the rest of us won't have to suffer the same.

My husband and I have dealt with Kay Jewelers off and on for a year and a half and have been nothing short of impressed! In Dec.2003 they took my old, broken and uncleaned wedding ring which I purchased from Service Merchandise and happily credited me much more that I paid for it! Now I have a ring that I never thought I could've afforded and $800 worth of Santa $ that I can use towards furture purchases. In Feb.2004, I bought a beautiful braided wedding band for my husband for our 4 year anniversary and had the inside ingraved. Kay's had my ring to me the exact day they promised and the engraved inscription was beautiful!!!! More than happy with Kay's!

Bought engagement diamond at Kay Jewelers in Maui Hawaii. Sent off to be put in different setting and sized. Got ring 1 week later and was sized, but not put in different setting. Got ring 1 week later and it was in new setting, but not correct setting. Sent ring off and got back 1 week later in correct settting. Two weeks later noticed crack on post and took to store. Got ring back 1 week later and it looked like they sanded the post of our new engagement ring. Moved to Florida and took ring to Kays in Port Richey. They sent ring off to get sanded post replaced with new head. Got ring back 1 week later with wrong head, wrong size, plier marks on ring. Kay's did 1 thing right, 90-day money back guarantee. Currently looking for new ring and good jewelry store.

We purchesed an engagment ring on 1-23-04.I was also given that ring the night of 1-23.It was the best night of my life. Two days later we took it to be sized. They promiced me it would be back and ready to go on 2-4-04. I returned back to the store on 2-4-04, it was not in yet. I came back to the store on 2-8-04 and the manager told me that they sized it down to much that the stones fell out. I was told that new stones were being ordered, and that I would get a phone call when the (REPAIRED) ring was in.Today is now 2/13/04 I got a message on my answering mechine stateing that the ring was in, but with the WRONG STONES in it. Now it will be sent back to be (REPLACED) again. I had the ring on my finger for THREE days. KAY'S JEWELERS has had it for 19 days as of today. This has taken the thrill of my engagment away.1-23 was such a special time, and with this nightmare it took all my feelings away. when I ware this ring that's been in a repair shop would you think of the pretty ring you picked out in the showcase, or a brocken ring that's been repaired for 19 days??? I will never do business with kay's again. This situation is unheard-of.

On June 24th 1985 my husband and I were married. for eight years my ring never let my hand July of this year I broke a prong off my ring. My ring was designed by my husband at Kay jewelers so were else would I take it to? Three days later I was told that it was DESTROYED for a broken prong. Never have I been told sorry. They let my husband pick a different ring from the showcase but it will never be the same. It was the only thing that I treasured and it is gone forever. NEVER will I deal with these people again.
