Here's the thing... While I am a proud user of an HTC Evo 4G and admire it's huge HD widescreen, pleasant-looking widgets, and useful array of apps; In no time soon will I ever state that it's killing iPhones (far from it). Though it honestly had potential to do so. First and foremost the battery is absolutely terrible. The worst smartphone battery I've ever laid hands on. If I take it off the charger at around 10AM and do absolutely NOTHING with it except check the time every now and then (No phone calls, texts, surfing the internet, games, music, etc.) it will die around 8 or 9PM. (50% of the battery will go down simply due to the Phone being Idle or in Standby. So even not using it wastes the battery) Now imagine how quickly it will die if you actually USE it. My usage of the Evo 4g usually consists mostly of texting, checking email, listening to music, and maybe a call or two. If I take it off the charger at around 10AM it usually dies out around 3. You can purchase an ext... Read more

I just purchased this phone about a month ago and it has been wonderful. The battery isn't perfect, but the performance makes up for it. I was unable to get internet installed in my house, but this phone's mobile hotspot is so fast that I really do not need it. I have the internet with me everywhere I go. The screen is much bigger than the Iphones, and both the cameras are better. I highly recommend.

This phone is superior to my HTC Hero. However, I miss a few things about my Hero. For one, the Hero you can easily handle in one hand while the EVO is so damn big it is a balancing act. I have yet to see it in 4G but can only imagine. All in all, knowing what I know today, I would still purchase the EVO over any other phone out there. It is impressive andthe camera issue seems to be much corrected. I hate rebates though - which is what I had to play in order to get mine the day it came out. I got the money but the dough had already been spent so it's one of those things. Plus, two year contracts suck.

For people who try this phone in the store and love it in-hand, it's probably a GREAT choice. The screen is amazing and if you're unfamiliar with other interface conventions, adjustment will come pretty easily. Anyone coming from another Sprint device will be pleased with this EVO provided they have access to a charger for most of the day. Automatt is right...the battery life blows, but so does the life on the iPhone and many other smartphones, so it's kind of a wash...if you commute via car or have access to an outlet / computer at work, you'll be fine. Kids who hang out with friends all weekend texting will have problems just as they do with the iPhone. You can improve battery life by about 2-4x on this and any smartphone by turning down the brightness to the lowest setting. Seriously...try this...it works. For me, coming from years on the iPhone and more recently Android on an Nexus One, it's practically unusable thanks to HTC's modifications to the core Android OS. SenseUI, HT... Read more

I've had mine for a few weeks now and have used it extensively as a phone, to run apps, and to use the internet. It's a decent smartphone. The screen is huge, and makes a the device a little huge for my pocket, but it looks nice. Call quality is excellent. The UI is whizzy and looks great in a demo, but for my taste a little too packed with extraneous nonsense. There are several different ways to do the same thing and some animations that look cool the first time and then just get in your way. Thankfully you can turn most of them off but it's a pain to completely disable the HTC Sense UI. Mine came loaded with Android 2.1, which has some noted UI idiosyncrasies that I could probably get used to if I absolutely had to. One particularly annoying thing -- the back, menu, and home hardware buttons are all right next to each other and look the same but woe is you if you hit the wrong one. The device plays meda files, but it's no iPod -- there are a handful of different applications... Read more
