Very influential, and very important figure in both Christianity and philosophy. And a damn good writer to boot. His "Confessions" is a great story.

As best I recall from my world history class, St. Augustin was a party animal who saw the light and became a very astute commentator of Catholic theology in his Confessions and City of God. I do recall toting a paperback copy of Confessions around campus. A pretty coed saw that book, commented about it, and we later went out on a couple of dates.
