Julius essentially founds the Roman Imperium, for both good and ill effects on human history. He was also one of the great military leaders, tactically, operationally, and strategically in history. He changed world history in a significant way which puts him in the upper echelons on this list.

He wasn't in power long enough to have the influence that others on this list had. If given time he could have been more influential. That being said, he did lead the Roman armies to many victories and expanded the Roman boundaries dramatically.

Entered military life (i believe) with little or no experience. Practically invented siege tactics in warfare. Lasting impact on Rome (thus, Western Civ.) to be sure. But "influential people in World History" I wonder if Caesar's 'influence' might be waning just a teeny-tiny bit. . .

Never officially crowned emperor, Julius Ceesar did serve as de facto supreme ruler for several years. In fact, it was the widespread belief that he coveted the title of emperor that led to his assassination by a group of Roman patriots, including his adopted son, Brutus. His death was followed by a brutal civil war that ended in the destruction of the Roman Republic and the birth of the empire under Augustus, an empire that would last 500 years in Western Europe and 1500 years in the East. Caesar's accomplishments as a writer, general and administrator surpassed all who followed him as emperor, with the possible exception of Augustus (chiefly in administration).

That guy could slam dunk...ooops wrong Julius. Great leader without a doubt. I am wont to say when someone has his s--t in one sock, That dude has the organizational ability of Julius Caesar. When someone of great stature compliments someone, I also say, That's praise from Caesar.

Brilliant Military leader, he helped define the Roman Empire, through he forgot one basic concept in leadership: A Republic or Democratic society does not tolerate Tyrrany, and because Julius Caesar tried to create an absolute rule over the Roman Empire, it cost him his life.

Without Caesar neither France nor Britain would have been brought under Roman domination, and the subsequent history of Europe would be incomprehensibly different. There are very few people in all of history as influential as Caesar. He's easily in the top five for political influence, just as the top five for spiritual-ethical include people like Jesus, the Buddha, Mohammed and Confucius.

Other than trivia Caesar was forgettable.
