Don't fear- they will be around forever because they might survive the nuclear blast. . .

Up there with Disco. Flame retardant, or inflammable, your choice, but it always looked like you'd swiped the curtains off a Winnebago and taken them to a dyslexic tailor to whip up the so called garment. Add white shoes and a white belt and a white tie and you have the dreaded Full Cleveland, Full Tacoma, Full Nanaimo depending on which part of the continent you lived in.

I won't knock someone else for wanting to wear polyester, but it's not my bag.

It's funny to look in the old yearbook and see these suits being worn by my hip classmates. What were they ever thinking?

Wouldn't have been caught dead wearing one! Me and my buddies knew better. On the other hand, where in our regard would the 'Goodfellas' crowd be without them?

Maybe I've seen so many hipsters wearing it that polyester actually seems kind of cool again. The possibilities for colorful design created by the polyester vogue also brought something new to the drab fashion landscape of the early '70s. Maybe I have the worst taste in clothing ever (my wife might agree), but the newer polyester fabrics seem preferable to wool, the scratchiness of which is a nuisance. Polyester suits are not even close to the worst clothing idea ever (clogs, anyone?).

I fail to see whats so bad about a polyester suit, their cheap.. and they look incredibly, i mean sure your going to look silly wearing a pink, green, red, or somesuch suit.. no matter what fabric you have.. a black, blue, grey, beige or somesuch polyester suit looks just as elegant as a wool suit.

Personally, I always prefered a nice Valor suit, backed up with a faint hint of Hai Karate. Though I never got laid for a whole decade, I always looked damn good...(sobbing)...yep, I always looked good

Yes, I would agree that polyester was a fabric that had seen it's day. I remember the days of those fancy colorful shirts that looked so cool in the early to mid seventies. I was shopping today and found a black polyester suit that was absolutely stunning. I thought I would never own polyester clothing again after the seventies and certainly never dreamed I would own a polyester suit. I remember telling myself that I wouldnt be caught dead in a polyester suit. Polyester clothing was for geeks! But today I bought a polyester suit! Not because it was cheep but because it looked great. I am not one to shy away from spending 4 or 5 hundred on a wool suit. I wouldnt call myself nor would anyone else call myself a cheep dresser. I couldnt believe how nice this suit looked. If you didnt know it was polyester there was no way you could tell. It looks like it is made from some of the finest material you ever saw used in clothing. It looks and feels like the best micro fiber you ever saw. I bought two all black suits on this day. One cost $475 and is made of wool. The other was $99 and made out of polyester. I brought both home and asked my wife and three neighbors to choose what they thought was the best looking suit. Believe it or not everyone chose the look of the polyester suit over the wool suit. The new type of polyester being used isnt even close to the old stuff. In fact you cant even tell its polyester. Its comfortable and very attractive. I was simply blown away when I found out from the salesman it was polyester. Yes, I did have second thoughts about buying it because I felt wearing polyester was social taboo but things have dramatically changed with polyester. I am simply amazed by the look and feel of this suit. I still cant believe its polyester!

Another example of technology run amok. Let's make clothes out of plastic!. The polyester craze couldn't die out fast enough for me. If you went over to Europe wearing polyester, you got either quizzical looks or amused smiles from the locals. To use an old, and seldom used word, they were schlocky. Natural fibers are still the best, from all standpoints (especially in appearance and for your health).

A very bad fashion trend. Polyester was very hot, highly flammable and tacky to boot.

Many did not know better in the 1970's but, as one who lived through the scratchy, hot, horrible feel of this man-made fibre with Scarlett O'Hara determination I declare to the skys with a remnent of a tacky pant suit held high - I will nevah wear POLYESTAH again! Cotton is a wonderful thing!
